Today at WWDC, Apple [AAPL] announced the iPhone 4. Along with that announcement came the details of launch dates. We were quite surprised to see the speed that Apple are rolling out the new iPhone 4 with five countries listed for June 24.

The iPhone 4 UK release date is June 24 where you’ll be able to possibly upgrade at a good price, or pick up a new handset on various networks. O2 has already uploaded an iPhone 4 page where you can register your interest although there are no prices as of yet mentioned. We suspect prices will appears on June 15 when pre-orders start. Now that the Apple [AAPL] keynote has ended, it gives us a little time to run through all the announcements made and gather them together in to one place. Apple announced today that iPhone OS 4.0 had received a new name of just iOS 4 which drops the Phone from the name. The iOS 4 release date will be June 21 where you will be able to load up iTunes, connect your iPhone and download the latest operating system.

iOS 4 which launches June 21 will be available for the iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch (not first gen touch). The iPhone 3G will not get all of the features but the 3GS will. Note that the Apple iPad has not been mentioned for June 21. That’s because Apple said earlier this year that the iPad wont get it for another few months after the iPhone models.

The new iOS 4 includes over 100 new features. We won’t bore you to death by discussing them all, but will cover the main key features that you will probably use regularly on your iPhone. [Read more…]

Motorola [MOT] has announced the Motorola MILESTONE XT720 for those of us in the UK.

The new Motorola MILESTONE has dropped the keyboard and also now includes hi-def recording and output. With the keyboard being dropped, the new MILESTONE is now slimmer than the previous version. It measures 10.9mm now compared to the 13.7mm when the keyboard was attached.

The operating system installed is Android 2.1 although Android 2.2 will be quickly made available after launch although it is unclear what quick means with Motorola. [Read more…]

We have seen a few cases where an iPhone has been seen running Android. Normally the version of Android has been older like 1.5 or 1.6, but now we see an Apple iPhone 3G running the latest Android 2.2 built (Froyo).

Most features work on the port although Wi-Fi and audio does not at the moment. Calls and SMS messages can be made as well as web browsing. There is a problem though that when they say Android 2.2 runs on the iPhone 3G, it isn’t really usable in that battery life dies quite quickly, there is problems accessing the GPU and the iPhone runs very hot will running the 2.2 OS.

First off, an apology to those who cannot watch the video below. It is restricted to certain regions. If you can view it then there’s around 16 minutes of video walking through the new BlackBerry OS 6. The video shows the new BlackBerry 9800 running OS 6 and over at IntoMobile, there are also a bunch of fresh pictures showing the slider phone and the new OS up close.

BlackBerry [RIMM] looks to be doing a good job with OS 6 making the operating system better than previous versions. A few things to note is that there is no SurePress. A T-Mobile [DT] SIM card is running inside and some of the technical specs show that the 9800 will have 4GB of storage built in along with 512MB of RAM. Wireless 802.11n will also be included. The Nokia N8 looks to be quite a nice smartphone despite the early review of a leaked model.

The video below was provided by Gameloft and shows Asphalt 5 running on the Nokia smartphone. If real, it looks quite amazing. We just mentioned “if real” in that SlashGear rightly point out that the game “might” be rendered or perhaps not showing it actually on a Nokia N8. There are no disclaimers to say other wise, so perhaps it is the real deal. [Read more…]

It appears that HTC Hero owners over in Asia today are starting to get the Android 2.1 firmware update. Conformation came from HTC on it’s Chinese Plurk account saying the roll-out would be June 4, which is today.

There was no mention of a European roll-out though with some translated instructions briefly explaining how the update can be installed.

The translated message says….

On June 4, 2010 to open up the wireless software update, the main update function as follows: Android 2.1 operating system upgrade!

System will continue to send updates prompt, when you receive a system prompt as long as you can by clicking Download or wireless network connection 3G/GPRS way to complete your phone system updates. Note: We recommend you to choose to have free Wi-Fi environment, download the update. If you are currently using 3G network, the download may have to pay the additional cost carriers, please make sure to have unlimited Internet access rates apply for rentals before use.

The HTC EVO 4G launches today in the US. The new smartphone is capable of 10X the download speed of a 3G phone making it the quickest around today. Of course, that assumes you are in a 4G area under good network circumstances. However, the launch was hit with a slight snag in that some reports are saying that a problem with the 8GB microSD card that ships with the EVO 4G in that there is a permissions problem that won’t let users write data to the card.

‘It seems to be fairly widespread among those who received the phones, says Andy Y, an Evo user who has been in touch with Google and HTC tech support over his faulty Evo SD card. ‘It’s a troubling trend. He has posted extensively on an online Android forum about his experience, where he says about 20 people have complained of similar problems.
