After a few months of waiting, iOS 4 will be arriving today for the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G. In preparation for it you should download iTunes 9.2 now and backup your iPhone. When it arrives you’ll then be ready to install it straight away.

The exact time of launch is now known yet with some speculating 9am pacific and some thinking later on in the day. The answer is unknown until it actually arrives or gets announced.

The iPhone 4 launch is happening this coming week. Part of the new iPhone 4 is the camera that has been upgraded to include a higher resolution sensor at 5 megapixels along with backside illumination and an LED flash. We have previously seen sample pictures from the camera, but these were taken under perfect lighting situations and only show what is possible when used correctly, ie – your actual pictures might not look as good in all situations.

Some people managed to somehow get hold of an iPhone 4 and capture some images with it. The image samples captured measure 2592 x 1936 with the video sample being captured at 1280 x 720 HD 720p.

Apple [AAPL] has launched a new app called Find My iPhone. The app is part of the MobileMe service and will be familiar to those who already use the service through their computer.

This app differs though as you can use this app to track your iPhone… ie, you need to have two devices to use this. If you lose an iPhone then you can use another iPhone or iPad to track the location of the other iPhone or iPad.

Although you might think it’s a bit bizarre to carry a couple of devices around, it actually kind of makes sense and will be handy in some situations. For example, you leave your iPad in a local store and drive away. You can then pick up your iPhone, load up Find My iPhone and track the location of your iPhone without having to travel home to your PC to track it. [Read more…]

Apple [AAPL] has confirmed that the iPhone 4 has 512MB of RAM inside. The original iPhone and iPhone 3G had 128MB while the iPhone 3GS and iPad have 256MB. Doubling the RAM in the iPhone 4 will allow developers more room to work with.

It is also believed to be the reason why iMovie for example, is an iPhone 4 only download. The 3GS and iPad simply do not have enough RAM to handle the HD video editing.

We had heard that Apple confirmed this 512MB figure during one of the WWDC sessions last week, and have now verified this. The session it was revealed in is now available (Session 147, Advanced Performance Optimization on iPhone OS, pt 2) for registered Apple developers.

The Apple [AAPL] iPhone 4 continues to sell well in the UK with new pre-orders now shipping on July 14. For the last couple of days the date has been July 2 and for those who managed to get a pre-order in on Monday, you’ll still get yours June 24.

If you want an iPhone 4 in the UK on June 24 then you best get queuing at the Apple store closest to you. Stores open at 8am.

On to network details for the iPhone 4. O2 released their iPhone 4 pricing earlier today and Orange also released pricing yesterday. Only 3 networks to go now with Three believed to be holding off revealing the iPhone 4 UK price until other networks have revealed their pricing as Three apparently want to undercut them all on pricing and possibly minutes/data and texts. Apple [AAPL] has started approving iOS 4 ready apps so that they can now support multitasking when iOS 4 launches on Monday.

Although the new iOS 4 has support for 3rd party apps to use multitasking, this feature was not enabled by default. To get multitasking working on 3rd party apps, developers need to add a few lines of code to their applications and resubmit them to the Apple store for approval.

There are seven specific background services that can be used for multitasking in iOS 4 and developers will need to choose which ones they need for their app.

Yesterday we saw a couple of date changes to the pre-order shipping dates for the iPhone 4 UK model and US model. Changed dates simply means the company has sold out of it’s first allocation of stock and that new pre-orders will get the iPhone at a slightly later date. 600,000 were pre-ordered on day one making it an eventful day with several outages.

For those wanting an iPhone 4 in the US, the current date for you is still at July 14 unless you manage to pick one up in store on the June 24 launch date.

For those in the UK wanting an iPhone 4 the date is still July 2 which hasn’t changed for over 24 hours now indicating pre-orders might be slowing down a little while people wait for the carriers to finally launch their pricing for the handset. Only the Orange iPhone 4 price is known at the moment although O2 launched tariff details last week and the Vodafone iPhone 4 price was leaked earlier this week (although the pricing could change when made official). Angry Birds for the iPhone and iPad launched just 5 months ago and within that time the company behind it, Rovio, has managed to sell four million downloads of the paid version. Angry Birds sells for 99c per time.

Along with 4 million downloads being done on the paid version, the free Lite version of Angry Birds has shifted another six million copies.

The game launched in December 2009 and only took off in February when Apple [AAPL] noticed the game and featured it. At that point it hit many top 10 charts around the world and just grew and grew at that point. [Read more…]

We heard reports last night that AT&T [T] had cancelled a few orders. There was nothing we could find at that time to show what had happened. This morning we came across this information on ModMyi where a user has put the text of a cancellation of a users iPhone 4 pre-order.

It took just a single day for Apple [AAPL] to deplete it’s stock of iPhone 4 in the US. This morning the new shipping date for new pre-orders was July 2. In just half a day that second batch has also been depleted and the date for new pre-orders is now July 12.

Apple are selling a lot of iPhone 4’s this week and from what we saw earlier, 600,000 of them were pre-ordered yesterday alone.

If you want to get your hands on an iPhone 4 on launch day we recommend you call by your local Apple store in the US, or one of the other participating stores which includes Walmart, Radio Shack and Best Buy. [Read more…]
