iPhone Angry Birds sells 4 Million Downloads

Angry Birds for the iPhone and iPad launched just 5 months ago and within that time the company behind it, Rovio, has managed to sell four million downloads of the paid version. Angry Birds sells for 99c per time.

Along with 4 million downloads being done on the paid version, the free Lite version of Angry Birds has shifted another six million copies.

The game launched in December 2009 and only took off in February when Apple [AAPL] noticed the game and featured it. At that point it hit many top 10 charts around the world and just grew and grew at that point.

“Even though we planned carefully in terms of how to have a hit game, we’re amazed how sticky Angry Birds is in terms of chart position,” Hed says.

Part of Angry Birds being successful is partly due to new iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad owners who first log in to the App Store when getting their new device and see Angry Birds at the top of the list. People just buy it because it’s up there although it’s a fantastic game (I downloaded it the first day I got my iPhone).

Angry Birds will be landing on Android based devices soon.

  1. Angry birds is a cute game—until may get angry at some hard-to-clear stages… Lately a friend introduced me a new game EPELER, it’s a cute word arcade game. I need to make as many words as possible from the falling letters, and the goal is to clean up the world. Took me 2 days to see the ending~
