Microsoft OneNote Free for iPhone

Microsoft has launched OneNote for the iPhone. The new app was approved and added to the App Store yesterday and for a limited amount of time, it will be free for users to download.

Microsoft hasn’t said how long the app will be free for, so it’s best you grab it while you can. The downside at the moment is that only US iTunes users are able to download the app. Other markets simply cannot download the app unless setting up an iTunes account with a US based address. Sprint to Introduct $10 Data Fee for New Customers

Beginning January 30th this year, Sprint will introduce a $10 fee for users of 3G data plans. This fee will apply to new customers only although this might effect customers who come to renew their contract after the said date.

The $10 fee is a monthly charge and is another way to charge users more for data. As we reported earlier today, 10 percent of users are responsible for 90% of the data usage. Rather than going for the 10 percent, which we guess they can’t do if they offered the terms of the contract, Sprint seems to be spreading the charge amongst all 100% of 3G data users. [Read more…]

PlayBook is ‘Great’ With or Without BlackBerry Phone Tethered

RIM is getting ready to launch the PlayBook in the next few months. The new tablet has left some positive thoughts around the Internet although one problem with it is that it’s a companion device to a BlackBerry Smartphone. To access some of the functions of the tablet, it will need to be tethered rather than working as a standalone tablet.

We now hear that RIM is changing this a little over time. In terms of PIM functions, these will eventually be standalone rather than having to rely on the BlackBerry tether. Unfortunately, Biden from RIM didn’t go in to details about corporate email which at the moment, will rely on the tethered connection to function. [Read more…]

90 Percent of Data Used by 10 Percent of Users – Study

Researchers have found that 10 percent of data users are responsible for 90 percent of data used on mobile networks.

The information also suggests that in 2011, 60 percent of data usage will be video. With this information in mind, Bytemobile suggests that in 2011 operators will use smart capacity on networks so that data can be kept under control. The smart capacity solutions use a number of functions which include caching, filtering, policy enforcement as well as capacity control, all of which are designed to give users a decent service although high end users might see problems with data running slower. iOS 4.3 Could Get Mobile Hotspot Features

When Verizon announced the iPhone 4 yesterday, there weren’t many changes at all. The changes to hardware included a slight change to the antenna because of the device using CDMA, and a lack of a microSIM slot due to a SIM not being needed.

The only software change made to the Verizon version was in the settings menu where a new item called Mobile Hotspot was spotted. When enabled, it allows users to set up the iPhone 4 as a mobile hotspot and let other users connect over WiFi or Bluetooth to it. The iOS running on the Verizon iPhone is 4.2.5 which is slightly higher than the GSM model of the phone. [Read more…]

Verizon iPhone 4 Appears to Solve Death Grip

That thin black bar seen on the bottom left corner of the iPhone 4 caused a number of issues for Apple in the early days of the smartphone launch.

The problem for some people appeared when holding the phone in the left hand. When the hand bridged the gap over that black bar, the signal dropped dramatically when out on the fringes of a network. Apple responded by giving away a free bumper or 3rd party case to all iPhone 4 owners. [Read more…]
