Verizon iPhone Could Be Announced Today

Today, it is expected that Verizon will announce the iPhone coming to its network. Rumors have been around for months about Verizon getting the smartphone and finally, we expect it will all happen later on today.

Dell Venue in US Will be Sold Unlocked

Dell has officially announced that the Dell Venue will be made available to those in the US. The company announced it over at CES 2011 in a press conference that was held. In that meeting, Dell also confirmed that right now they have no carrier partners which means the smartphone will be made available on the Dell.com website.

With no carrier partners, it also means that the device will be sold unlocked. A T-Mobile version might happen from what they’ve said, but the unlocked version wont work on the T-Mobile 3G bands. [Read more…]

PlayBook Promotional Videos Uploaded by RIM

RIM has launched a couple of new promotional videos for the BlackBerry PlayBook. These two videos arrive just in time for CES 2011.

The first one shows the tablet running HTML5 content as well as Flash games. Social networking sites such as Facebook are also seen running in the video.

The second video shows details about the tools available to developers as found in the BlackBerry Tablet OS SDK. Adobe Flash Builder 4 is also shown as well as Flash Builder Burrito. [Read more…]

First Custom Sony PS3 Firmware Released

On Monday we reported that a Sony PS3 hack was accomplished by GeoHot. What George managed to do was get the security keys which are needed to keep the device secure. With the keys being publicly available, it basically allows unverified software to be signed and run on the games console.

What we hear today is that the PS3 custom firmware has now been released. The firmware was created by KaKaRoTo and essentially, seems to show that it is possible to run custom firmware.

This is just the first attempt at custom firmware, and it only contains a minor modification to allow you to install pkg files directly, eventually we’ll get some more options added to it in the future. This is just starting to get interesting!

Third-Gen Amazon Kindle is All-Time Best Seller

Amazon has announced that the third-generation Amazon Kindle has now become the all-time bestseller at Amazon. The Kindle managed to beat Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows that previously held the record.

The Amazon Kindle 3rd gen model is available in two different versions which includes a WiFi only model and a 3G+WiFi model. The 3G model lets you download books from anywhere you can get a 3G signal making it handy for those who like to download books and news whilst on the move. [Read more…]

iPad Mini Spotted Again

Just before Christmas, pictures of a mini iPad (perhaps a 7 inch screen) were circulated around the internet. Although it couldn’t be confirmed if it was the real deal or not, it did look quite convincing in that the proportions were about right, the bezel was quite thin and you could see iOS (or a photograph of iOS) running on the screen.

Late Christmas day, we received a tip from Edd Withers who claims he was sent more pictures of a mini iPad. Although we’d love to think they were the real thing, they just don’t quite convince us as much as we want. [Read more…]

Best Buy has discounted the Samsung Galaxy Tab on the Verizon network. The new price brings it down from $599.99 right down to $499.99. This price is for the Samsung Galaxy Tab off contract.

iPad Clamcase Includes Full Chiclet Style Keyboard

The device you see here is an iPad attached to an iPad Clamcase. The Clamcase is an all-in-one keyboard, case and stand that allows you to use the iPad as a tablet or laptop if needed.

The Keyboard is Chiclet style and is a full QWERTY keyboard and has 14 function keys. It connects to the iPad with Bluetooth 2.0 and has its own built-in battery that can provide about 90 hours of uninterrupted use. The Clamcase uses a micro USB port for charging. [Read more…]

Where Gets The “Mother of All Geofencing Patents” Awarded

Where, is a company who has just been awarded what they call the “Mother of All Geofencing Patents”. For those unfamiliar with Geofencing, it is the ability to define a virtual area around a business in which users running specific software on their phone will be alerted about a deal when they walk through the virtual fence. As well as being a static location of a couple of blocks (for example), it could also be a moving Geofence and attached to a device or product.

This patent could send targeted ads to users walking in to specific areas or could also be used to transmit coupon codes when users walk nearby a shop with offers in. [Read more…]

IN MEDIA Windows 7 Tablet Announced

IN Media has announced that it will be launching a new tablet in 2011. The tablet will be running the Windows 7 operating system and will run a 1.66GHz Intel Atom Processor. For storage it will use a hard drive with a capacity of 160GB.

A HDMI interface is included on the device allowing users to play content over a TV or projector. The device will have a 6 inch screen that is LCD which the company says brings Skype and Social Networking to a whole new level. We are not so sure at the moment what that actually means. [Read more…]

Android Pantech Vega X Launches

Pantech is launching the Pantech Vega X smartphone this week over in South Korea. The device will be landing on the KT and LG telecom networks.

OS wise, it runs Android 2.2 and is powered by a 1GHz Snapdragon processor. A large 4 inch WVGA screen is used on the device. On the back is a 5 megapixel camera. [Read more…]

Apple TV Sales to Hit 1 Million This Week

Apple [AAPL] has announced sales figures for the second gen Apple TV. This week it is expected that sales will hit 1 million. The Apple TV went on sale in September of this year which means it hit the 1M mark in about 4 months.

When compared to the first generation Apple TV, the sales are much better. This is partly due to the newer model having a far better price point than the original. [Read more…]
