Apple iPhone Might Also Land on Sprint This Year

Persistent rumours about Apple [AAPL] and the AT&T exclusivity contract ending have been circulating for a few weeks (or even months now). In particular, Verizon [VZ] has been the other phone carrier that is said to be getting the iPhone. We now hear that Sprint [S] might get the iPhone later this year also.

In the “totally unlikely to come true” department, yesterday I was told that Sprint will be getting the iPhone this summer. You heard that right, while rumors have long pointed to Big Red getting the iPhone this year, never has it been mentioned that Sprint would be selling the iPhone. I can’t believe this is true, although the source has been reliable in the past and does work for Sprint.

Since this time, we had also heard similar rumblings from a Sprint-connected source that Sprint was going to be readying for the iPhone later this year. Likely in the September timeframe — placing it in the same timeframe as Verizon rumors.

Apple iPad Didn’t Like the UK Heatwave

If you decided to use your Apple iPad in the UK heatwave over the past weekend then you might have got the message seen in the image above. This indicates that when temperatures approach 30 degrees C that using an iPad outside might not be possible.

One import iPad user said “Don’t leave iPad in the Sun… Whoops” and Jon points out that the “iPad didn’t like being used in the garden in 30 degree heat.”.

The good thing for those who still want to use their iPad in the hot sun is that here in the UK, it wont last long and we’ll be back to rain, cold and what not in no time. [Read more…]

Apple iPad International Shipment Notifications Starting to Arrive

Just a quick heads up for those who have ordered an Apple iPad in the UK, Canada, Germany, Australia and a few other countries who are expecting deliveries next week. Apple [AAPL] is now pushing out notifications that shipments are starting.

For those who ordered on May 10 or 11, before the shipping date changed to June 7, you should be getting notification in the next 24/48 hours or so with details of the delivery if you haven’t received details already. [Read more…]

Apple iPad UK Shipping Dates for new Pre-orders Changed

If you pre-ordered an Apple iPad in the UK on May 10 or 11 then you’ll still be getting your iPad on May 28 (this coming Friday). For those who pre-ordered after that, the date changed to June 7. It appears that Apple has run out of those pre-orders now and have put a more generic shipping date for all those pre-ordering today and onwards to just June.

This indicates pre-orders have been selling very well and that Apple [AAPL] is now waiting for more stock to be produced, or that they might be holding some back for store launches that will also happen next week.

If you still want to get hold of an Apple iPad this coming Friday then the only way now will be to queue up (possibly over night) outside the closest Apple store to you. [Read more…]

Apple MacBook Teardown

Apple [AAPL] launched a new 13 inch MacBook a few days ago that included a 10 hour battery life along with NVIDIA GeForce 320M integrated graphics and new processors.

iFixit decided to teardown the new MacBook, as they do with a lot of new gadgets, and took a look at what exactly was inside. A few highlights include the battery which measures the same size and is the same shape, but managed to get a rating of 63.5Wh compared to the older 60Wh battery used in the older model. The battery weighs just a few grams more than the older one and can actually be switched out to an older model to provide a bit of extra juice.

The layout of the new MacBook is similar to the older model and parts from the old can be used to fix the new in most cases. [Read more…]

Apple now Accept Cash for iPad Sales

Recently a lady in the US saved up $500 to get herself an Apple iPad. When arriving at a store she was turned away being told that to buy an iPad you could only use a debit or credit card.

When this information came out, Apple where criticised for that decision. Apple [AAPL] said in a comment that it was a system used to prevent people from buying more than 2 iPads to make getting hold of one easier for people in general – ie, a fair system.

This policy has now been changed and it is now possible to buy an iPad with cash. There is just one requirement though to do this and that is that the user must get an iTunes account in store and activate the iPad in store. [Read more…]

Apple iPad Controlls a Toy Blimp

Although the Apple iPad has a number of limitations such as the lack of flash, no camera and a few other things, it still doesn’t prevent users from getting a little creative with the device.

In this case a company called BREAKFAST who is based in New York, has managed to create a small blimp that carries a wireless video camera and remote control features that the Apple iPad can hook up to.

The camera is accompanied by a couple of bright LEDs to light up the way and the video feed is wirelessly transmitted back to the iPad so the user can fly around by looking at the screen if needed. To control the blimp you simply rotate the iPad like a steering wheel and the fans are adjusted to push it in the direction you want it to go. [Read more…]

Apple iPod Touch gets Camera

The Vietnamese site Tinhte.vn has managed to get another breaking news story where the guys there managed to get hold of an Apple iPod Touch with a rear facing camera. The new iPod Touch looks the same as the previous iPod Touch other than the addition of a camera on the back.

The iPod Touch has been captured on video to give a brief demonstration of what it can do. However, it appears that the Touch is still in some sort of diagnostic mode similar to what the iPhone 4G was although the Touch gets to a very basic graphical interface that is usable. The camera seems to function as it should although there was no interface specifically for the camera to be used in. Instead, a group of icons showing various functions of the phone are displayed on this prototype model with a video feed in to one of the icons. [Read more…]

Apple iPad used as Secondary Display via WiFi

Avataron has created an app that allows your Apple iPad to function as a secondary monitor for your Mac. The app is called Air Display and uses the WiFi built in to the iPad to transmit data to and from the Mac.

Simply put, it extends the desktop on your Mac allowing you to drag windows across to the iPad as and when needed. Another interesting feature of the application is it’s ability to use the touchscreen of the iPad as a mouse to control the mac if needed.

The application isn’t available just yet and is going to be submitted to Apple [AAPL] next week for approval. If approved you’ll get the ability to use the iPad as a mini screen assuming you also install the app on your Mac to allow the two to communicate together. [Read more…]

Apple MacBook 13 Inch Model Receives an Update

Yesterday, an unboxing of a new Apple MacBook 13 inch model was found over on a Vietnamese website. The video indicated that a new 13 inch MacBook could be launching as soon as today. Well, today is here and the rumours are true. Apple [AAPL] has just launched a new MacBook on several of it’s online stores around the globe with the rest expected to follow shortly.

The new 13 inch Apple MacBook has a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo processor. Graphics are provided by NVIDIA GeForce 320M and battery life has been increased from the previous 7 hours up to an impressive 10 hours on a single charge.

We were unsure yesterday if the price would increase… we actually see that Apple has retained the $999 price tag making it a good deal when compared to the 13 inch MacBook Pro that’s $200 more. [Read more…]

Apple iPhone 4G Leaked Again

Things can’t be going too well for Apple [AAPL] at the moment after another iPhone 4G has been leaked in Vietnam. Perhaps we are looking at the same phone we have seen a couple of times before though. Right now, I’ve lost track of how many phones there have been captured on camera that all look very similar. I believe it might be the fifth as there was one captured earlier this year before the Gizmodo leak, then the Gizmodo leak, then Vietnam, then France and now Vietnam again. The last three and perhaps the first could all be the same unit though.

Either way, we now have a video of the iPhone running what appears to be some sort of diagnostic screen called Inferno. This looks to be a “bonfire” at the top of the screen with some text at the bottom of the screen showing some sort of USB status and a command saying Run Bonfire.

Some people believed the Inferno screen was just a static image, as in a sticker on the screen or a fake screen. We now see that this is part of the innards of the OS. [Read more…]
