Amazon Kindle 6 Inch Model Out of Stock

Amazon has sold out of the Amazon Kindle 6 inch model. Normally this wouldn’t be such a big deal (although it has only happened once before in 2008), but recently Amazon launched a new Kindle DX that was cheaper and had a better screen. With this in mind, a number of people are speculating that Amazon could be getting ready to introduce a new Amazon Kindle with the same enhancements that the Kindle DX recently received.

When visiting the Amazon home page users now see the larger Kindle DX greeting them rather than the smaller model that has been on the home page for around a year now.

Bloomberg has commented that a new Amazon Kindle could be launching in August and with Amazon selling the last of the Kindle 6 inch model, it appears that they could be about to launch a new model in the next few weeks. [Read more…]

Dell Streak Price Spotted

The Dell Streak price was briefly shown on the Dell site earlier today although Dell has since pulled the page off line.

While the page was up, the pricing for the Streak showed a cost of $299.99 on a two year contract with AT&T [T] with a price tag of $549.99 off contract.

With Dell pulling the page from it’s site, there is a slim chance it could be changed closer to the release date (which is any day now we believe). However, we think the prices will probably stick. [Read more…]

Dell Streak Android 2.1 Demo Surfaces

Dell has demoed the Dell Streak running Android 2.1. The version of 2.1 has a number of Dell additions to the UI that are currently available in the current Streak Android OS.

However, Kevin Andrew who demoed the device did mention that Android 2.2 will be launched later this year. It isn’t clear if Dell will release Android 2.1 at all for the Streak, but it’s good to see they are at least working on something for the tablet.

The downside here is that there has been no time-line released. We are hoping for sooner rather than later though as will others who own the device. [Read more…]

HP Slate to be for Enterprise Customers Only

The HP Slate has been a little evasive since it was first unveiled at the beginning of this year. It started off as a Windows 7 tablet, then that appeared to get killed off in favour of Android and then webOS and again a compact variant of Windows 7 and now it appears that this Windows 7 tablet version is going to be for enterprise customers only and not for general consumers.

The information comes from Todd Bradley from HP who said in regards to the Slate that it would be “more customer-specific than broadly deployed,” and that the Microsoft-based tablet would be “for the enterprise” and probably released in the fall. [Read more…]

Lenovo Android Tablet Revealed

We hear that Lenovo is also going to be making a tablet computer. The new style of tablet will of course follow along with what the iPad, HP Slate and others look like in that it will drop the old style keyboard and run a more appropriate operating system.

The Lenovo model has been code-named LePad and will run the Google [GOOG] Android operating system. Unfortunately there are no official pictures of what it will look like and we don’t know when the company plan on launching it either.

It is unclear also if the code-name of LePad will be used as the final product name. Names aside though, Lenovo need to act quickly as Apple [AAPL] are getting a huge headstart over all other companies who have yet made a worthy competitor. [Read more…]

Dell Streak Coming to US Late July

There is no exact date unfortunately but as it’s the 22nd today, that gives them 9 days to get it released.

The Dell Streak is an interesting device that runs Google Android. It has a 5 inch screen putting it in between the size of a smartphone and a larger tablet such as the iPad. On the back is a 5 megapixel camera and on the front, a VGA camera allowing for video calls to be made. [Read more…]

HP Slate 500 brings Eight Windows 7 Tablets to Choose From

It appears that eight variations a Windows 7 based HP Slate could be launched.

Don’t too excited just yet. These models are anything but official as they were simply found on some random HP product listing. However, the brief description ” embedded below ” should make some people’s day. It seems like the original HP Slate complete with Windows 7, 8.9-inch screen, dual cameras, and ” this is new ” some sort of stylus/pen input.

Details now indicate that as well as creating a webOS tablet, HP are also still working along side Microsoft [MSFT] to create the Slate as originally described earlier this year. [Read more…]

The 7 inch screen has an 800 x 480 resolution and is touchscreen. For connectivity it has wireless built in that can connect to 802.11b/g networks along with microUSB and a HDMI port. [Read more…]
