RIM BlackPad Could Arrive November at $499

RIM is still rumoured to be working on the BlackPad. We heard last week that the device was to get a 9.7 inch screen, Bluetooth, WiFi as well as cameras on the front and back.

We now hear that Quanta will be manufacturing the tablet and that they will be building two million units in September in preparation for a launch in November.

Price wise, the tablet is also rumoured to be starting at $499. When we say starting, it isn’t clear at the moment if several models will be launched like Apple [AAPL] did with the iPad, or if RIM will just stick to the one model. [Read more…]

ASUS Eee Tablet Coming October for under $599

The ASUS Eee Tablet was introduced at the end of May this year. We now hear that it will launch in October of this year with a price tag under $599.

Originally we heard that the price tag would be $199 – $299 with a September launch. These lower prices of course could be related to subsidised prices though which would fall inline with about how much we’d expect to pay for a tablet with a carrier contract. [Read more…]

Netronix PocketBook 602 eBook Reader Unveiled

Netronix will soon release the PocketBook 602 eBook reader in the US. The FCC just approved the device for launch.

The PocketBook 602 has a six inch screen that uses e-Ink to display text and images. Processor wise it has a 532MHz Freescale ARM11 processor. Other features include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and a 3G/3.5G wireless data connection. The OS running on the device is a custom build of Linux.

The eBook reader supports several file formats which include PDF, ePUB, FB2, HTML, TXT, PRC, MOBI, RTF, DOC, JPG, and MP3 file formats. [Read more…]

HP Slate could be called the eStation Zeen

The FCC unveiled a few documents today that reveal a device called the HP eStation Zeen. Engadget point out that the Zeen name was first spotted in a trademark on a portable handheld device late last year.

The FCC show drawings of a device that looks similar to a HP Slate. The device has a tablet look and has 802.11b/g/n WiFi built in.

Not much else is known about the device although we suspect with HP’s acquisition of Palm will see webOS being used on the tablet. [Read more…]

Viewsonic Android 2.2 Tablet Rumoured

Viewsonic could be joining the tablet race by releasing it’s own Android 2.2 OS based tablet. Stuff.tv reports that the tablet will have a seven inch screen and run Froyo.

For connectivity it is expected that it will have the ability to make calls via GSM as well as have Wireless integrated of course.

On the back either a 3 megapixel or 5 megapixel camera is expected. [Read more…]

Samsung Tablet Could get Dual-touch Features

Samsung has filed a patent that details a device with dual-touch features. What this means is that the screen on the front will be touch-sensitive as normal, but also that the back of the device will integrate touch.

The patent shows all the details and describes the system as a ‘Mobile terminal having dual touch screen and method of controlling content thereinĀ.

If implemented on a tablet device it would allow users to hold the device and control functions on screen by sliding fingers across the back of the device. [Read more…]

Motorola 10 Inch Tablet Hinted on Verizon

Some rumours going around today indicated that Motorola is launching a 10 inch tablet soon. The tablet will use Android for the operating system and have a 10 inch screen.

Other features include Adobe Flash support (we assume that means the Motorola Tablet will run Android 2.2), along with two cameras (front and rear facing), mobile hotspot functionality and access to pay TV. [Read more…]

Samsung Android Tablet to be Announced August 11 – Rumour

Samsung could be unveiling the Samsung Galaxy Tab Android OS tablet device in just a couple of weeks time. We hear from Electronista that the release date might be August 11, or should I say the unveiling of it.

BlackPad from RIM Could Launch in November

RIM is believe to be launching a tablet device called the BlackPad. This rumour was recently strengthened by RIM purchasing the BlackPad.com domain name which further increased rumours about the device.

Kindle 3 Gets a Microphone

The third generation Kindle is launching this month. Amazon has already sold out of the first batch of Amazon Kindle pre-orders with the second batch expected to be landing on September 4 a week or so after the initial launch.

A few new features of the Amazon Kindle include a far better eInk screen with more contrast. Also the device is thinner, lighter and overall had a boost in performance. We now hear that Amazon is including a microphone in the new Kindle although from what we understand the firmware doesn’t make use of it just yet. Slashgear suggest that it might be used in the future for voice control. We are not 100% convinced of voice control just yet, but perhaps it will be a way for readers to save voice memos or perhaps keep notes on books by voice. [Read more…]

The new Amazon Kindle only just went up for pre-order at Amazon late last week, but already the first batch of the eBook reader are sold out.

Macallan UI Update for Windows 7 Tablets

The Macallan UI is designed by a company called UI Centric who have created a unique user interface for Windows 7 tablet devices.

The problem with current tables using Windows 7 is that often a standard tablet is created and runs a regular UI that Windows 7 provides. The Macallan user interface brings a number of easy to use features such as multitasking, page turning all on a slick looking interface.

UI Centric comment that one of the major manufacturers will be shipping a product running this UI in the 3rd quarter of this year although no names have been provided. [Read more…]
