iPhone Tethering on iOS 4.2.1 Locked on iPhone 3G

Apple launched iOS 4.2.1 at the beginning of this week. Some people running it on an iPhone 3G are reporting issues when the iPhone has been unlocked to use on another network. When doing that, the Internet Tethering option in some cases is removed.

This, of course, is for those running an iPhone 3G that has been officially unlocked as there is no unofficial unlock available just yet for those running iOS 4.2.1. [Read more…]

Apple Shipping 1 Million MacBooks Per Month

Reports from Digitimes indicate that Apple [AAPL] is now shipping around 1 million MacBooks per month for this quarter. About 20 – 25% of those sales are believed to be the new MacBook Airs that launched a few weeks ago.

The sources cited IDC’s figures and pointed out that Apple’s combined shipments for the first three quarters of 2010 reached about 6.88 million units, and its global notebook market share rose from 3.7% in the first quarter to 5.2% in the third, while its market share in the US market surged from 6.7% to 12.6%.

Apple iPad 2 With Retina Display, 2 Cameras and FaceTime Hinted

The Apple iPad 2 release date is expected to be 1 year from the original iPad release date, making it early April 2011. We continue to hear rumours about what will be included in the iPad 2 such as a second dock connector on the landscape side, a better screen, more RAM, smaller screen etc…

Some features that we expect to see include some kind of Retina Display, perhaps not with that title but at least a screen with a pixel density that matches the current Retina Display. We think the screen size will stay the same. We think one camera (perhaps 2) might be included with the front facing camera specifically being used for FaceTime calls. A 3 axis gyro is also a possibility. Basically, you only need to look at how the iPhone advances and then attach that technology to the iPad… and then extra technology is then attached back to the next gen iPhone and so forth. SkyFire for iPhone now Available in UK

Three weeks back, the SkyFire browser for iPhone launched in the US. At that time, it had a bumpy start due to the very high demand of the app.

Now that the bumps have settled down a bit, the app is now available for those of us in the UK. [Read more…]

Vodafone Subsidized iPad Incoming to UK

Earlier this week we learned that Orange/T-Mobile and the Three networks would be offering a subsidized iPad here in the UK. We now year that Vodafone is following and also will be offering a cheaper iPad with a higher monthly cost.

Just like the other two networks, Vodafone has yet to provide pricing or release dates for the subsidized iPad, but what we gather is that it will be expected early next year rather than being in time for Christmas. [Read more…]

Sony Ericsson X10 Android 2.1 Update Delayed for AT&T Users

It seems that the Android 2.1 is being delayed again for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. This time it’s for those users who own it on the AT&T network in the US.

The reason for this particular delay is a little vague to be honest. It has been put down to some rigorous testing that caused some technical requirements not to be met. ie, it could be AT&T who are being very strict with what can and cannot land on its network. [Read more…]

Gran Turismo 5 Review Roundup

After a number of years waiting, Gran Turismo 5 has finally launched. Reviews have been positive of the game although there are some problems to be found. Problems we have been hearing, and from our own testing of the game, relates to some of the cars not being finished. Some look amazing inside while others look like they come from an older version of the game. Shadows are also not strong point with lots of jaggedy edges. Other than that, and perhaps a point raised in one review about originality, all looks to be fantastic with the game.

We have created this Gran Turismo review roundup to highlight the best reviews from some of the most respected blogs and review sites around the world. All go in depth with their reviews, so it would be worth you having a good scan through the list to see what they think of the game. [Read more…]

webOS Security Flaws Found

Security flaws have been found in webOS by a company called SecTheory. Researches at the company managed to find a handful of these flaws.

The reason why these flaws exist is because of how webOS works with Javascript. The OS basically puts it closer to the core which is different than most other operating systems who keep it far away. [Read more…]

iPad Multi-User Browser Launches

One thing the Apple iPad lacks it a bit of privacy where some apps are concerned. If someone “borrows” your iPad then they have full access to most apps and most data unless the app is password protected.

The Switch app in the iTunes store tackles the problem of browser privacy by allowing several users to use the browser, but by each authenticating with their own username and password. What this does is let users keep their own bookmarks, tabs and history so that others don’t mess. [Read more…]

BlackBerry Playbook Price Could be $399

One of the unknowns about the BlackBerry Playbook is its price. All we have officially heard so far is that it will be priced at under $500. What that exactly means is that it could range from anywhere at $499.99 and below.

A website called Mobility Insider claims today to have received specific information relating to the price. That claim says it will cost $399 when launched which is not a bad drop below the $500 ceiling price. [Read more…]

Print from iPad to All Printers with Printopia App

One of the problems with iOS 4.2 and AirPrint is the lack of compatible printers. As it stands right now, there are just 10 printers that can be printed on.

When iOS 4.2 for iPad was originally announced, we heard that all printers would be compatible if they could connect up to a Mac or PC and be shared. This of course drastically changed as shared support was removed with iOS 4.2 GM was released a few weeks back. [Read more…]

iPad on Three to be Subsidized

Recently, Orange hinted that it will be selling a subsidized iPad. The Three network has now joined in on the game and will also be subsidizing an iPad in the UK.

What that essentially means is that you’ll pay less up front for the iPad, but will also be committed to an 18 or 24 month data plan with a higher price per month to make up the cost over the term of the contract.

Three UK today announced it will offer new purchase options for iPad users, including more affordable prices when purchased with a data service plan, for iPad with Wi-Fi + 3G models in the coming months.
