Reports from Digitimes indicate that Apple [AAPL] is now shipping around 1 million MacBooks per month for this quarter. About 20 – 25% of those sales are believed to be the new MacBook Airs that launched a few weeks ago.
The sources cited IDC’s figures and pointed out that Apple’s combined shipments for the first three quarters of 2010 reached about 6.88 million units, and its global notebook market share rose from 3.7% in the first quarter to 5.2% in the third, while its market share in the US market surged from 6.7% to 12.6%.
We also hear that in the next generation of MacBook Pros that the optical drive will be dropped. The next gen Pros are expected sometime in the Spring of 2011.
2011 should be an interesting year for Apple. First off, the Verizon iPhone is expected and then on to the iPad 2 and then on to OS X Lion as well as many other updates.
