Acer Aspire AS5740 and AS7740 Core i3/i5 Notebooks Revealed

Acer are launching a new range of notebooks that utilise the Intel Core i3 and i5 Arrandale processors. As well as offering the latest Intel processors the notebooks have optional HD graphics and Blu-ray.

The Acer AS5740 has a 15.6 inch screen along with an Intel Core i5-430M processor running at 2.26GHz. The screen is a HD widescreen that’s backlit by LED and can display 1366 x 768 pixels. Other features on the AS5740 include Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit running, 4GB of DDR3 memory running at 1066MHz, a 500GB SATA drive, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 with 1GB of VRAM. Connectivity is 802.11b/g and draft-N (probably just n though as draft left a while back). A 10/100/1000 wired Ethernet port can also be found on the AS5740. [Read more…]

Lenovo Lephone on Show at CES

Lenovo have created an Android OS based phone called Lephone. The Android operating system on the Lephone has been through a complete facelift and according to MobileCrunch the phone has hardly any of the original OS sticking out.

It is expected that the phone will run Android 2.0 when launched although Lenovo declined to comment on which version of Android would be in there.

The screen on the Lephone is very impressive at 3.7 inches with a nice resolution of 800 x 480. The screen is also OLED. There appears to be no physical buttons on the face of the phone with just volume buttons on the left and a programmable button on the right of the phone. The bottom area below the screen is touch-sensitive allowing for soft keys as well as gestures to be input. [Read more…]

Samsung Announce New Digital Cameras at CES

Samsung have launched a new line of digital cameras at CES this year.

The first new set of cameras are the Samsung TL-Series that feature two screens. The second screen on these two cameras is forward facing allowing you to take self portrait shots without missing yourself. The second screen measures 1.5 inches and sits to the left of the lens of the camera. The two cameras are called the Samsung TL210 and the Samsung TL205. The TL210 is the slightly improved camera that has a 12.4 megapixel sensor vs the TL205 that has a 12.2 megapixel sensor. The TL2010 also has better optics allowing for 5x optical zoom where as the TL205 has 3x optical zoom. The former also has a wider angle lens at 27mm vs the 35mm lens of the latter camera. Samsung Laptop has Transparent OLED Screen

At CES, Samsung unveiled a laptop that has a transparent OLED screen that can let up to 40% light through it from the background. Although it might not be fully practical in a laptop design a transparent OLED screen has applications elsewhere such as being embedded on to the wind-shield of your car allowing navigation to be overlayed on to the road ahead.

The current maximum transparency on other screens is only 25%, so bumping that up to 40% by Samsung is a good achievement. [Read more…]

D-Link Wireless N Pocket Router

D-Link have announced a new wireless N pocket router that as the name suggests, is pocket sized allowing it to be packed up for travel. The router is capable of creating a wireless N network (802.11n) or can be used as an AP as part of an existing wired network.

The Pocket N router also has an Ethernet port allowing a PC, XBox or similar device to connect up to a wireless network. The device also uses SharePort technology that allows users to share USB devices. [Read more…]

Amazon Kindle DX Goes Global

Amazon have announced the Kindle DX will be shipping with Global Wireless enabled allowing it to function in over 100 countries. The new version of the Kindle DX will start shipping on January 19 at a cost of $489.

The Kindle DX is an eBook reader that comes with a 9.7 inch eInk screen. Wireless connectivity is built in allowing you to download eBooks anywhere you can pick up a mobile phone signal.

Downloads take about 60 seconds to complete and once downloaded are stored on the device for you to read at any time. The DX is capable of storing around 3,500 books allowing a very healthy library of books to be carried in your bag. Other features of the Kindle DX include auto rotation to put the books in to landscape mode automatically if required. [Read more…]

Light Touch Interactive Projector from Light Blue Optics

Light Blue Optics have created a new interactive projector called Light Touch that can turn any surface in to an interactive touch-screen.

The projector is capable of throwing a 10 inch image on to a surface such as a table and is also capable of detecting when the image is touched. The system uses what’s called holographic laser projection technology that can create bright and high quality images that always stay in focus regardless of the distance between the desk and laser. The Light Touch also uses HLP that is able to throw a very wide angled image allowing the projector to sit close to the desk. [Read more…]

New Dell Mini 10 with Intel Atom N450 Launches Today

Dell have launched their new Dell Mini 10 netbook that comes supplied with the all new Intel Atom N450 processor.

The new Dell Mini 10 is thinner and has a more sleek design. The keyboard on this netbook measures 92% of a full keyboard and the palm rest area is now textured allowing for less smudges to appear on the lower side of the netbook.

For the Mini 10 a new hinge has been created allowing a slimmer device that can still hold a decent sized battery. Three batteries are available for the Mini 10 with the 3 cell version offering 4 hours of usage while the two 6 cell versions offer about 8.5 and 9.5 hours each. Also both the 3 cell and 6 cell batteries measure the same size meaning that the mini 10 netbook wont have any additional bulk if you opt for the larger of the batteries. [Read more…]

Rumour: Google Nexus One to Launch in France for €199

According to the French paper Le Point the Google Nexus One is going to be launching on the SFR network in France Q1 2010 along with a 2 year contract for less than ‚¬200. Of course we have had no official announcement from Google yet although that’s due early today.

The French paper also mentions that you can have the phone unlocked/contract free costing ‚¬450. SFR are the first to offer the phone in France if these rumours are correct with Vodafone following with a 24 month contract at about 50 euros per month. [Read more…]

Freescale ARM Based $200 Tablet

If $1,000 for a rumoured Apple iSlate is too much for you to eat then you could check out this way cheaper tablet from Freescale. Several Freescale tablets are being made with some of them having a sub $200 price tag. The tablets will be powered by ARM Cortex Chips and will run either Android or Linux.

The tablets are set to launch in the summer of this year and Freescale will include wi-fi, Bluetooth and have an onscreen QWERTY keyboard as well as a physical separate QWERTY keyboard. [Read more…]

Amazon have started taking pre-orders for the ASUS UL30Vt-A1 13.3 inch laptop. The ASUS laptop has some impressive features that include a 12 hour battery life, 4GB of DDR3 memory, Wireless 802.11n and an Intel 1.3GHz Core 2 Duo Processor.

The UL30Vt-A1 is a step up from the older X1 model that lacked a decent battery. The new battery has 8 cells and is rated at 5600mAh which makes the laptop ideal for those who need more power and longer times between charges. [Read more…]
