Announcements made recently show that LG intend to start mass producing OLED TV’s over the next few years starting this year with 20 inch screens. Production will then shift to 30 inch in 2011 with 40 inch OLED screens being mass produced in 2010.

Nokia have just launched a new firmware for the Nokia N97 smartphone. The new firmware ready for download is version 21.0.0.045.
This latest version has been built to fix a number of small bugs and according to Nokia, improves call reliability as well as internet browsing including the kinetic scrolling that can be found in version 20.+.
The firmware is currently available only as a download where you will need to tether your phone to a computer to perform the upgrade. If you want to wait a little longer then Nokia will release the update as an over the air (OTA) update. [Read more…]
Next week Mitsubishi will be putting on display a 149 inch prototype OLED display at ISE 2010 in Amsterdam. The huge OLED display has a resolution of just 1088 x 640 pixels though as each pixel measures 3mm which when viewed from far still gives a very impressive picture from what reports say.
The light output measures 1500cd/m2 and the production model will run several times brighter than a regular LCD display. By having such a bright screen it makes it functional in indoor and bright lit areas. [Read more…]
Last week we reported that the HTC HD2 going to the T-Mobile network in the US had a little extra RAM. This led to beliefs that the Windows Mobile 7 update would be going to the US T-Mobile versions but not to other HD2 users across the globe. However, a bit of investigation in to other HD2’s with the lower amounts of RAM has revealed that they might actually have the extra 128MB sitting dormant waiting for a firmware update to open it up.
The details were found by the guys on the XDA-Developers forum who found a leaked ROM/Radio upgrade where the hidden RAM was unlocked. [Read more…]
Apple [AAPL], on Wednesday opened up VoIP capabilities over 3G networks in their latest SDK. Immediately after launched the iCall application was modified to allow for 3G VoIP calls to be made. Next on the list is Fring who have now modified their VoIP app to be 3G-friendly.
Before Wednesday 27th January 2010 restrictions on the iPhone only allowed VoIP calls to be made over wireless networks meaning that to get cheaper or free calls you had to be in an accessible wireless hotspot. These limitations are now gone. [Read more…]
Apple [AAPL] have lifted the restrictions that prevent making VoIP calls over 3G networks on their latest iPhone SDK 3.2.
What this means is that applications such as Skype will allow you to make international calls over 3G networks allowing you to take advantage of minutes and data to make cheap calls overseas. Also with the iPad launching soon this will also allow the 3G version of the device to potentially make Skype calls as well as Skype video calls (of course, receiving video only). [Read more…]
Today, Apple [AAPL] finally made their tablet device official and gave it the name Apple iPad. The iPad has a 9.7 inch LCD capacitive touchscreen with IPS technology. The full device measures 9.56 inches tall, 7.47 inches wide and 0.5 inches thick and weighs 1.5 or 1.6 pounds depending on if you choose the 3G model or not.
Back on to the display, it has a high resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels at 132 pixels per inch. The glossy screen is covered in a fingerprint resistant oleophobic coating.
Two different versions of the iPad will be made available. The first is a Wi-Fi version that is compatible with 802.11a/b/g/n networks. The second iPad model has an integrated 3G connection built in allowing it to connect to a number of networks which includes UMTS/HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz) as well as GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz) networks. The 3G model also has the same wireless functionality built in as well as Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR that is included on both models.
Location based services are also available on the iPad and a built in digital compass can be found along with Assisted GPS, Cellular tracking and Wi-Fi tracking. [Read more…]
The Mobile World Congress event will be starting up soon mid February and we hear at this event Microsoft [MSFT] will be showing off Windows Mobile 7.
Windows Mobile 7 is set to be a major re-vamp of the mobile platform and although it wont be ready for launch at MWC, it is expected that WM7 will be launching towards the end of this year with code being finalised by the summer.

HotHardware are reporting that AT&T are to loose exclusivity of the Apple [AAPL] iPhone this Wednesday. No reports of other networks have been mentioned yet who are going to be taking the iPhone on-board, but this Wednesday also happens to coincide with a potential major Apple announcement which is believed to be the iSlate unveiling as well as iPhone OS 4.0 and now, perhaps the iPhone going on to other networks in the US.
Hothardware go on to mention that this could be a good thing for AT&T as the iPhone seems to be hurting their network. By giving options to customers on various networks will hopefully share the usage around and potentially lower the data used on each of the networks. [Read more…]
The HTC Supersonic was one of the phones included on a leaked roadmap of HTC devices to launch this year. A screenshot from the said phone has said to have been leaked to BGR and shows that the smartphone is to run Android 3.0.
BGR do say that the tipster is a new guy, so they haven’t been able to verify if it’s the real deal or not just yet. However, if real then it shows the phone running on the T-Mobile network along with the OS as being Android 3.0. [Read more…]
Windows 3.1 has been rebuilt to function in a browser. It was re-created by Michael Vincent as a personal site that actually functions just like Windows 3.1 did.
For those of you who don’t remember what Windows 3.1 is, it was the version of Windows used in the early to mid 90’s.
This particular version allows you to use the command prompt that shows it running MS-DOS 6.22, allows you to browse the internet, play Minesweeper, use Media Player (although media player does actually embed youtube videos rather than function how it did those many years ago). [Read more…]
There’s more reports/rumours going around about Apple [AAPL] and their iSlate or Tablet device saying that both AT&T and Verizon could be making it available on their networks. Up till now there hasn’t been much, if any, solid evidence that the device will exist but bits of information have been pieced together making it quite likely that the device will be unveiled next week at an Apple event where a big announcement will be made.
It is believed that a “world version” will be made making it compatible on CDMA and GSM standard networks which should be announced Wednesday. However, other rumours are saying a couple of versions will be made making each compatible with a particular network. Either way, I am sure it will be cleared up on the 27th. [Read more…]
