Google Street View Images Could be Updated every 6 Months – EU Demands

Google Street View has caused a bit of a stir from time to time as some users feel it’s a little intrusive having a camera capture pictures of your home. Generally though it seems like most people actually think it’s a cool service to use.

Google [GOOG] had plans to update the images every 12 months when the service launched although this could be reduced in the EU has it’s way. The 12 monthly updates would allow Google to capture changes in scenery and buildings that have occurred over the year. However, due to various privacy reasons the EU want it changing to the 6 months we mentioned which could lead to great expense for Google to effectively double it’s efforts to achieve the same work. Engadget managed to take a look at the handset whilst filming the Engadget Show. HTC HD2 as well as Other WM6.X Devices Won’t Get Windows Phone 7 Series

We’ve seen a number of rumours that the HTC HD2 will be getting an update to Windows Phone 7 Series. However, due to one simple technical requirement it closes off the rumour.

The hardware guidelines are quite specific in that phone manufactures need to have a specific processor (ie, the 1GHz Snapdragon from Qualcomm), a high-res screen, a 5 megapixel camera and a 3.5mm headphone jack… which the HTC HD2 already has. However, one of the “strict” requirements of the chassis 1 phones is that they also need to have three hard buttons below the screen. The HTC HD2 happens to have five which breaks the deal.

That’s the official line from Microsoft, at any rate. Natasha Kwan, General Manager for Microsoft’s Mobile Communications Business in the Asia-Pacific region, told APC that the HD2 ‘doesn’t qualify because it doesn’t have the three buttonsĀ.

New iPad SDK Mentions Video Calling

The Apple [AAPL] iPad was first announced about a month ago and at that time it was revealed that it doesn’t have a camera at all on the device. A few weeks later it was spotted that the iPad’s bezel actually had a cut out for a camera but it still seems like the final iPad won’t actually arrive with a camera. This could mean a second generation iPad is already being built.

A new iPad SDK was recently released that was also found to support a front facing camera, camera flash, zoom and video conferencing.

This information was found in the SDK thanks to a couple of buttons that show large Decline and Accept video call buttons which appear to be too big for the iPhone screen. [Read more…]

Samsung are launching five new camera lenses for their Samsung NX10 that we first mentioned early in January. The next is a 20mm f/2.8 pancake lens allowing for wide angle shots with a fairly wide aperture that can let in some decent amount of light. The next lens is a macro lens that is a 60mm f/2.7. Next is the 20-50mm f.3.5-5.6 and funally an 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 for zooming in more closely to subjects. [Read more…]

Samsung TL500 Looks Promising

Samsung have launched the Samsung TL500 point and shoot digital camera. The camera it’s self belongs to the “high-end” of point and shoot cameras in that the features it have bring it close to how a DSLR camera functions except for not having an interchangeable lens which keeps the size down.

The lens included with the camera although fixed to the body is actually quite capable and has a wide aperture of f/1.8 allowing plenty of light to hit the sensor for darkened shots. Full manual controls can be found with multiple control dials to get the camera to take the shot you want it to take. [Read more…]
