HTC Desire spotted on T-Mobile UK

If you are after a HTC Desire in the UK and the T-Mobile network works well for you then for £35/month you can pick up the handset for free. T-Mobile confirm on the site that shipping will take up to 7 days which aligns closely with when Amazon are shipping the SIM free variant of the phone.

Another good deal that T-Mobile has is a 24 month contract at £15/month where you can purchase the phone for £129 which isn’t a bad deal at all. With the £15/month price plan you get 300 minutes, 300 texts and the usual unlimited (limited to 1GB) internet connectivity although from my experience with T-Mobile I’ve only got close to the limit once in the last 3 years. GM have announced a new system they are working on that uses augmented reality. It is called the Enhanced Vision System and uses the wind shield of a car to highlight dangers and other information of interest to the driver.

Three cameras mounted in the car monitor the driver and can accurately detect where the driver is looking so that the images augmented on the screen are placed in the correct location. [Read more…]

Canon EOS 5D Mark II 2.0.3 Firmware Update Yanked

Canon released the long awaited 2.0.3 firmware update for it’s Canon EOS 5D Mark II a couple of days ago, but we hear the firmware has now been yanked off the Canon site due to some technical difficulties with the Audio breaking down.

The audio issue occurs when manual recording is set on C1/C2/C3 and the camera is either switched off manually or automatically. Canon recommend for now that users with 2.0.3 on their EOS 5D switch to automatic mode while the bug is ironed out.

It isn’t know at the moment how quick Canon will fix the error but for now the old 2.0.3 has been removed from the site till a new firmware update is ready. It could be hours, days or perhaps weeks depending on how quick and easy the fix for the digital SLR camera is. [Read more…]

The battery it’s self has a capacity of 1,300mAh. An 8 megapixel camera can also be found on the back of the device. [Read more…]

Apple iPhone HD Concept new name for iPhone 4G?

According to the YouTube video linked below, the iPhone 4G could be called the Apple iPhone HD. The Youtube user who uploaded the video says “New iPhone HD ad from Apple” in his comments although from what we see it seems a little fake to be honest.

If Apple were to design the new iPhone to look like this it would be the first major shift to a different design since the original iPhone was launched. Since launch the only changes that have been made to the device are making it a bit thinner as well as a few other slight changes on the casing. Other than that it’s almost the same.

Although I don’t personally believe it’s the next gen iPhone I do believe some of the features seen in the video could well be included in the next generation iPhone. [Read more…]

Apple iPad Alternatives

Although it’s almost a given that the Apple iPad will sell well, there are still many complaints about the lack of various features such as multitasking (which might appear later this year), and the lack of flash support, pen input amongst other things. There are a number of alternatives out now or soon to be out though. CrunchGear put together a list of seven alternatives that are either available, or arriving this year sometime. There’s actually eight although Crunch Gear for legal reasons cannot specifically mention the JooJoo due to the Crunchpad/Fusion Garage break up late last year.

Rather than rehash the complete list here, I’ll just mention a few of my favourites which can be found below. [Read more…]

Sony Ultra Compact DSLR Concept – LCD Menu Screenshots

Mid February, Sony unveiled a concept camera that is set to be a Micro Four Thirds DSLR using a mirrorless interchangeable lens system with an APS-C sensor.

Apart from showing off the concept camera casing and lens last month, Sony haven’t really said much about it. We received some pictures yesterday showing us the new LCD display menu system that the camera will use. The menus appear to be touchscreen.

A few hints at what the Ultra Compact DSLR will offer indicate that a background defocus control can be used to adjust the aperture automatically to get the background to focus/defocus as required in the shot. [Read more…]

Google Street View Cover the Whole UK (well, 96%)

Google [GOOG] have now updated the UK maps with 96% coverage of the UK in Street View. There’s just a few streets missing as of now, but generally the whole UK is covered.

This allows Google Streetview users to view almost any street in the UK from the eyes of cameras that have been mounted on cars for the last 18 months or so and immerse themselves in to the streets around them (or anywhere else).

Google came under fire though due to Streetview with some people believing it was too obtrusive. However, most people feel it’s quite a cool feature to have and I have to admit it’s an impressive undertaking to get the whole of the UK covered. [Read more…]
