iOS 4.2 Brings Printing to iPad

Apple [AAPL] mentioned iOS 4.2 today along with the release date of November for the iPad. One of the new features that has been requested a fair bit is printing. iOS 4.2 brings printing to the iPad.

To print you open up a program like Pages, click the menu at the top and the option to print will be available. When you click print you then can select which printer you want to send the job to along with how many copies you want printing. [Read more…]

New iPod touch Announced

Apple [AAPL] has announced the next generation iPod touch. The new model brings a number of new features including the retina display and the Apple A4 chip both found in the iPhone 4.

The iPod touch according to Apple, is the number 1 portable games playing system in the world. It has over a 50% market share in both the US and the world which is quite impressive.

New features include the Retina Display that has 4x the pixel density of the previous screen. The pixel density is 326ppi which is more than the eye can distinguish. It is thinner than the previous model and has a 3 axis gyro built in. [Read more…]

New iPod nano Announced

Apple [AAPL] has also announced the new iPod nano today. Th new iPod nano drops the click wheel and adopts a square screen that is multi-touch based and runs a small variant of iOS.

The new iPod nano comes in two capacities of 8GB and 16GB and is being made available in 7 colours.

The iPod nano is capable of playing music for 24 hours. Some unique features allow the screen to be rotated by using two fingers on the multi-touch screen. A clip has been introduced on the back. [Read more…]

iPod shuffle – New Generation Model Announced

Today, Apple [AAPL] launched new iPod devices across the whole range. First up on the list was the iPod shuffle. The iPod shuffle brings back the buttons which lacked on the last version. Other features include voice over as well as it shrinking in size a little.

Genius has also been built in.

The new iPod shuffle is able to play back 15 hours of music on a single charge. It comes in 5 colours and is available to pre-order now over at Apple where it costs $49 for a 2GB model.

Shipping starts next week.

iOS 4.1 Release Date – Week Beginning September 6

Apple [AAPL] announced today that iOS 4.1 is launching next week (second week of September).

iOS 4.1 is for the iPhone 3G, 3GS, 4 and newer generation iPod touch devices. The new iOS 4.1 fixes the slowness problems found in the iPhone 3G and brings a number of new features, or enhanced features to the iOS devices. Note that this version is not for the iPad. iOS 4.2 for iPad Release Date – November

Apple [AAPL] announced today that iOS 4.2 would be launching in November this year.

iOS 4.2 is the follow on from iOS 4.1 that is launching today and brings iOS 4 to the iPad.

Steve Jobs confirmed today on stage that iOS 4.2 brings everything to iPad which includes multitasking, wireless printing, folders and AirPlay. [Read more…]

iPod touch 4 Case Leaks

The iPod touch 4 might be announced today at the Apple [AAPL] event that is happening in a couple of hours time.

A new iPod touch 4 case has launched which further strengthens these rumours of an iPod touch 4. This time the case is from a mainstream case maker.

The iPod touch 4 is expected to be very similar to the iPhone 4 in that it is expected that it will have two cameras, perhaps a glass front and back and be capable of making FaceTime calls via email activation. [Read more…]

Sony Could Launch iTunes Competitor

Sony could be launching a service that would tackle iTunes. The new service could be announced as early today which also coincides with the September 1 Apple [AAPL] event being held in a few hours time which is expected will also reveal a streaming service.

It is expected that the system will revolve around the Sony PlayStation 3 games console and then roll out to Vaio computers and Bravia HDTV’s later on in the year. Also Sony Ericsson mobile phones are expected to get the services if rumours are correct. [Read more…]

New iPhone 4 Hardware Revision Arriving this Month – Rumor

Some rumours are out and about today that indicate that Apple [AAPL] could be launching a revision to the iPhone 4 hardware which would include a fix to the antenna problems.

Of course we should take this with a pinch of salt for a number of reasons, firstly because Apple says there is no problem and by making a revision to the hardware and secondly, it would open up a whole can of worms with millions of users potentially wanting to return their iPhone 4 for a revised model. New Screen has Pixels Eight Times Smaller than Retina Display

When Apple [AAPL] launched the iPhone 4, it came with the retina display. The retina display had a higher pixel density squashing more pixels in to an inch than any other mobile screen. The results are that individual pixels cannot be distinguished between when holding the phone at about a foot or more from the eye.

The pixel density could be smashed though as researchers have created a screen that has eight times the pixel density of the retina display. The researchers are based at the University of Michigan who created the screen with nanometer-thin sheets of metal that are named nanresonators. [Read more…]

Pay-Per-View Coming to YouTube

Google [GOOG] could be getting in to the Pay-Per-View movie rental game by transforming in to one of the major players by as early as this year.

The Financial Times is reporting that Google is speaking with Hollywood Studios to launch a service this year that will see movies streamed to users.

Google say that a mixture of the Google Search Engine and the busy YouTube service could see the service pushed out to a huge number of people. [Read more…]

RIM Working on BlackBerry External Antenna – Rumour

RIM (Research in Motion) could be working on an external antenna design according to details found by BBLeaks.

One of BBLeaks sources sent in a picture showing a BlackBerry Pearl 9100 with an external antenna and also indicated that a lot of these devices with external antennas could be found at RIM’s headquarters in Canada.

The iPhone 4 launched back in June this year and also had an external antenna design that had a number of issues reported by the media and users of the phone. It isn’t clear why RIM would go down this path other than perhaps trying to get a more stable version of what Apple [AAPL] came up with. [Read more…]
