iOS 4.1 Jailbreak for iPhone, iPod and iPad Coming Soon

Just hours after Apple [AAPL] released the iOS 4.1 download, a vulnerability was found by the iPhone Dev Team that allows an iOS 4.1 jailbreak to happen.

The interesting thing with this particular security hole is that its a low level security hole that to fix, Apple will need to introduce new hardware. [Read more…]

iPod touch 4th Generation Teardown

iFixit managed to get hold of an iPod touch to tear down. The iPod touch went on sale this week after being announced just last week at the Apple Special Event.

The iPod touch is very thin and hence, a lower resolution camera was used as the 5 megapixel version from the iPhone 4 just wouldn’t fit with the technology used today.

The new touch uses an A4 processor although it comes packaged with 256MB of RAM (just like the iPad) rather than the 512MB of the iPhone 4. [Read more…]

BlackBerry App World Hits 10,000 Apps

RIM has announced on it’s twitter account that the BlackBerry AppWorld has hit 10,000 apps.

Although it’s a milestone for RIM, it’s certainly a fair ways behind the likes of Google [GOOG] and Apple [AAPL] who’s market/app store’s have reached 100,000 and 250,000 respectively recently (or there abouts).

One reason the BlackBerry App World might be quite far behind is due to the types of customers who use the smartphones. BlackBerry devices are aimed at business users and a lot of them are not as versatile in terms of games and other types of apps that you see on Android and iOS devices. [Read more…]

Latest Gen iPod shuffle Gets Torn Apart

The latest generation iPod shuffle was announced last week and launched this week. iFixit of course, managed to get it’s hands on one and tear it apart to see exactly what’s inside the new device.

With the shuffle having no screen, Apple [AAPL] has managed to cram everything in to the shuffle and make it a tiny package.

In terms of how easy it is to teardown, iFixit gave it a rating 2 out of 10 which basically makes it very difficult to teardown. [Read more…]

iPad Camera Accessory Incoming – Rumor

We’ll take this one with a pinch of salt, but there are rumours going around that the Apple iPad could get an external camera to make FaceTime calls with it.

This rumour started because of the iOS 4.2 release date of November being mentioned last week at the Apple Special Event. In that presentation, Steve Jobs said that everything goes to the iPad for iOS 4.2 which included HDR photography amongst other things. The problem is that the iPad can’t do HDR without a camera and certainly can’t make FaceTime calls. [Read more…]
