Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Ready for Pre-order on Vodafone

Vodafone [VOD] have uploaded the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Android phone and made it available for pre-order on their site.

Vodafone has set a delivery date of April 6 which is next Tuesday. The phone it’s self is an Android 1.6 based mobile phone and it happens to be the first that comes from Sony Ericsson. On the back is an 8 megapixel camera and the phone is packed with all the usual stuff we see on smartphones these days including GPS, WiFi, 3G, Bluetooth etc…

It has a large 4 inch capacitive touchscreen that’s not quite the 4.3 inches of the HTC HD2, although still classed as being a large screen. [Read more…]

Sony Alpha A200 Taken Apart

After receiving a slightly beat up, but unrepairable Sony Alpha A200 digital SLR camera, one guy decided he might as well just take the whole thing apart to see what was inside and how it all worked.

Amongst various circuit boards and small ribbon style cables attaching all the various aspects of the camera together, a few interesting things were found such as a sensor (or card) seems to move around for auto stabilising shots.

To see the full tear down with a number of comments about what is where, check out English Russia who have all the shots captured and detailed somewhat. [Read more…]

Verizon Nexus One Briefly Appears at Google.com/Phone

Back in February a Google [GOOG] worker had commented that the Nexus One would be going to Verizon on March 23… that didn’t happen.

After a bit more waiting it appears that Google updated their google.com/phone website temporarily to include the Nexus One on the Verizon network with a price tag of $199 along with a two year contract. The information has been removed now although it has lead a number of people to believe that the launch might not be too far away now. [Read more…]

Apple iPad App Store on Video

Yes, there’s going to be plenty of Apple iPad news this week although we’ll try keep it to just 2 or 3 per day out of the 20 or so news items per day we post… at least we hope to keep it to just that.

The next bit of info we have spotted shows someone browsing through the Apple iPad app store looking through the various HD and iPad applications that they are revealed as being named as.

Not much works in the app browser although the user can flick through applications and select them to view a write up of what the application is about. However, a number of the buttons do not work which includes the ability to Sign In, Redeem or use Support. [Read more…]

Apple iPad Flash Problems partially solved by Brightcove

The Apple iPad lacks flash as you are probably already aware of. That does upset a number of people who want to use a larger screen tablet device to browse the web and yet, they see boxes asking for Flash to be installed.

A number of companies are switching video content over to use the new HTML5 specification that allows videos to play back in the browser (including the iPhone and iPad browser).

Brightcove are getting in on this by creating software that websites can use to play Brightcove videos which use the HTML5 spec and can work on devices such as the Apple iPad and iPhone.

The software uses auto-detection and can switch over the video to be compatible if it recognises the device cannot use flash. [Read more…]

Apple now owns the iPad Trademark

Apple [AAPL] now have charge of the iPad trademark (serial number 76497338) and are now on the legal side of things in terms of calling the Apple iPad just that.

Previously the trademark was owned by Fujitsu who registered it in March 2003 when they created a wireless handheld computer specifically used by retailers called the iPad.

From what we see the iPad trademark was assigned over to Apple on March 17 this year just in time for the iPad to launch next week. [Read more…]

HTC HD2 on T-Mobile Sells Well on First Day

Just a couple of days ago the T-Mobile HTC HD2 went on sale. Following on from the previous day’s announcement of the HTC EVO 4G we expected sales to suffer a little, but if the rumours are true then the HTC HD2 is still selling well.

We are hearing that around 21,700 units were sold via retail and employee sales. It isn’t clear if the numbers represent online sales. If not then the number will increase quite a bit.

It’s not bad despite a few kicks in the teeth that it’s had recently with the HTC EVO 4G announcement and the whole Windows Phone 7 Series thing where Microsoft [MSFT] confirmed the HD2 was not going to get the new OS. Either way, it all seems to have worked out well for T-Mobile. [Read more…]

Apple iPad approved App list Leaked

Padgadget have been hunting around the iTunes database recently where they uncovered some interesting details of applications that were available for download that looked to be tuned specifically for the Apple iPad. The hunt revealed that several apps were marked with HD at the end of their titles and when trying to download a message said that they were unavailable at the moment in a specific country.

The information didn’t come from the regular iTunes store or from the App Store on the Apple [AAPL] iPhone. Instead, padgadget were using the web based interface where the titles were mixed in with thousands of regular iPhone and iPod Touch titles.

Although only a handfull or two apps were found at the time (due to there being thousands upon thousands of apps which takes too long to hunt through), the titles which were found are listed below… [Read more…]

HP Envy 14, 17 and Pavilion dm4 Confirmed – Possibly

Rumours about a new HP Envy 14 and HP Envy 17 have started up again due to some support documents being spotted that confirm the new models in the Envy range. Each will be an upgrade to the Envy 13 and Envy 15 series of laptops.

Reports of a HP Envy 14 are not new though as that particular laptop was spotted last November. That particular report came from a file that was downloaded that contained a reference to an Envy 14 in a couple of different variants with that name/screen size.

The new information comes from a CVA file called HP Support Assistant CVA Documentation, SP47327 where a reference to the HP Envy 14 is added as well as a new Envy 17 that hasn’t been previously mentioned. [Read more…]

Apple iPad Book Store to get 30,000 Free eBooks

When the Apple iPad launches next week, the launch will also see 30,000 free eBooks in the US. The free eBooks come from the Gutenberg Project that has a library of books whose copyright has now expired.

Steve Jobs made comment earlier this week that said iBookstore would offer free eBooks although the amount of books and where they came from were not said.

From this information revealed we find out that 30,000 eBooks will be made available. For those out of the US the book selection might differ even to the point of not getting free books at all as each country has different copyright terms which could mean a book free in the US is not classed as such in the UK. Google Set Top Box to Daisy-Chain with your Current TV Box

Google [GOOG] are creating a Google TV as well as a set top box it is believed to bring the Android operating system to the TV.

We have heard previously that Google have teamed up with Intel and Sony to create the chips and TVs that will run the new Android OS. We also heard that a set top box was being created that would bring Android to older TVs. Rumours are now saying that the Google set top box won’t actually replace your current box, but instead, will daisy chain between your current box and your HDTV.

“In other words, the MVPD’s set-top’s HDMI output would be connected to the Google TV set-top’s HDMI input, and then its HDMI output would be connected to the TV. The authorized TV channels would still be delivered, but Google TV would collect data from the MVPD’s set-top and introduce an entirely new UI for users to control their TV experience, to include searching and browsing channels. It would also add a host of new interactive web-type capabilities around the content.”
