Apple iPad Now Shipping to Arrive April 3

Good news for those who got their iPad pre-orders in early enough as to not get their Apple [AAPL] device late. We notice that pre-orderers are now receiving notification that their Apple iPad is now in transit with a delivery date of April 3 as expected.

The above screen shot shows the delivery notification along with a button on how to track the shipment (see below for a larger screen shot). [Read more…]

Apple iPad Store Screenshots Spotted

Yesterday we came across a number of Apple iPad apps that were showing up on the web based iTunes app store. Those items were quickly removed and no longer are listed there. However, someone managed to stumble across the Apple iPad feed for the app store and created this list of what the store will probably look like.

As with the leak yesterday (linked above) the leak also found yesterday (what we are posting here) shows various HD versions of software that are going to the iPad such as Labyrinth 2 and Flight Control.

Screenshots shown below show the app store and what it will look like along with pricing which incidentally shows apps being higher price which is understandable. Also it appears that those apps that have been specifically designed to work on the larger screen will also require that you repurchase the iPad version from what we understand. This might upset a few folk, but when Apple first presented the iPad it was mentioned that iPhone apps would work where they would be zoomed to fill the screen… those apps that have already been purchased won’t need to be repurchased from what we hear. Apple now owns the iPad Trademark

Apple [AAPL] now have charge of the iPad trademark (serial number 76497338) and are now on the legal side of things in terms of calling the Apple iPad just that.

Previously the trademark was owned by Fujitsu who registered it in March 2003 when they created a wireless handheld computer specifically used by retailers called the iPad.

From what we see the iPad trademark was assigned over to Apple on March 17 this year just in time for the iPad to launch next week. [Read more…]

The Real cost of the Apple iPad

Voucher Codes in the UK decided to put together quite a cool infographic (if that’s the right word for it), that shows the real price of an Apple iPad and confirms if the $499 price tag is as “unbelievable” as they repeatedly have said.

First impressions of the iPad pricing is that we all expected it to cost $1000 or so, so when the lowest spec model came in at $499 it seemed like a good deal.

The infographic is based on old Apple products that have launched over the last 24 years and includes the likes of the Apple Lisa, Apple I, II and III right up to the iPhone, iMac and the Apple iPad. [Read more…]

Apple iPad approved App list Leaked

Padgadget have been hunting around the iTunes database recently where they uncovered some interesting details of applications that were available for download that looked to be tuned specifically for the Apple iPad. The hunt revealed that several apps were marked with HD at the end of their titles and when trying to download a message said that they were unavailable at the moment in a specific country.

The information didn’t come from the regular iTunes store or from the App Store on the Apple [AAPL] iPhone. Instead, padgadget were using the web based interface where the titles were mixed in with thousands of regular iPhone and iPod Touch titles.

Although only a handfull or two apps were found at the time (due to there being thousands upon thousands of apps which takes too long to hunt through), the titles which were found are listed below… [Read more…]

Apple iPad Book Store to get 30,000 Free eBooks

When the Apple iPad launches next week, the launch will also see 30,000 free eBooks in the US. The free eBooks come from the Gutenberg Project that has a library of books whose copyright has now expired.

Steve Jobs made comment earlier this week that said iBookstore would offer free eBooks although the amount of books and where they came from were not said.

From this information revealed we find out that 30,000 eBooks will be made available. For those out of the US the book selection might differ even to the point of not getting free books at all as each country has different copyright terms which could mean a book free in the US is not classed as such in the UK. Best Buy Preparing for Apple iPad Launch

The US store Best Buy is gearing up for the April 3 Apple iPad launch date by training staff and providing details of events leading up to the launch date.

On April 3 the iPad will only be available to purchase either at an Apple Store or Best Buy (referring to physical locations and not ordering online via the Apple site). The process will see Best Buy set up a store-in-store where a section will be created for Apple products to be purchased. This will happen at 675 of the 1000 or so US locations. Bestbuy.com and the other 325 locations will not carry the iPad.

In preparation for the launch it is believed that Best Buy stores will start receiving display materials early next week which will also contain information that an iMac and a couple of notebooks will not be on display for the iPad launch to make extra space for the event. [Read more…]

Apple iPad Teardown Confirmed

We just posted about iFixit and the iPhone vs Nexus One infographic. Along with the email we received from iFixit, they also confirmed that they will be doing an Apple iPad Teardown on April 3 when the Apple [AAPL] device is launched. At the end of the email from Kyle he said…

P.S. Yes, we will be taking apart the iPad on April 3.
How could you doubt us?! (Props to you if you’re one of the few with faith in us who *have not* emailed me asking whether we’ll disassemble it). I’ll be running my technicians through screwdriver calisthenics all next week to prepare.

WSJ on Apple iPad could cost $17.99/Month for Subscription

An article over at WSJ indicated that the subscription price for receiving WSJ content on the Apple iPad [AAPL] device will cost $17.99/month. The information came from a fairly long article that speaks of the advertising and subscription models that different high profile magazines and papers are using.

The article also mentions that a four-month ad package will cost $400,000 although Coke and FedEx who are believed to have signed up would not comment on it.

The Apple iPad is certainly a new interesting way to read news daily. With it’s larger screen and full colour display it can showcase some very good interactive content. The Wired application (not specifically for the iPad, as it includes other tablets too), is one example of how the tablet devices are changing the way we see adverts and interact with content. CBS.com Getting Ready for HTML5 Video on the Apple iPad

The Apple iPad is landing in just over a week on April 3. We hear that CBS.com are currently working on bringing their video content to the iPad in the form of HTML5. This would mean that the normal flash videos that can be viewed on the CBS site through a regular browser will actually be converted to the HTML5 format allowing content to still be played on the Apple [AAPL] device.

The information arrives after the CBS site was spotted to include a couple of “iPad – test” video links. MacRumors decided to run a test to see if they functioned as the name suggested and found that they were just redirected to the normal flash videos. They did however note that when either using the iPad SDK simulator, or by spoofing the browser agent on a PC/Mac to make it look like you were viewing the content on an iPad, that a different version of the video was displayed (image smaller above and larger below). Instapaper iPad App Unveiled

Instapaper is an application already available for the Apple iPhone and Kindle from Amazon. The company behind it have modified the application to better suit the Apple iPad and have submitted it for approval to the app store.

Due to having a larger screen, the application looks far better than on the iPhone due to more screen estate and being able to show more information on the larger screen.

For those of you unaware of Instapaper, it’s an application that allows you to bookmark articles that you come across on the internet and save them to read later. The system works by using a bookmarklet in your computer browser and if you want to read something later you simply click on it, where the article is then sent to your iPad for reading at a later date.
