Nokia X2 Announced

Nokia today announced the Nokia X2. The X2 is part of the Xseries line-up of phones which currently includes the X3 and the X6.

The Nokia X2 has a 2.2 inch QVGA screen and is a candybar phone. It measures 13mm thin and just 81g.

Other features in the Nokia X2 include dual speakers, dedicated mucic keys and an FM stereo. For storage it accepts up to a 16GB microSD card. [Read more…]

HP to Buy Palm in $1.2 Billion Deal

Palm has been up for sale for a few weeks now with speculation about HTC and other various mobile phone companies buying it.

We hear now that HP are to buy Palm. HP confirmed that they are paying $1.2 billion for the company which works out at $5.70/share and 23% higher than Palm’s stock price yesterday.

Purchasing Palm would get HP more in to the mobile arena and allow the company to develop and carry on building the webOS platform. [Read more…]

Nokia N8 Officially Announced

Nokia today announced officially the Nokia N8 that we have been seeing leaked pictures of for a while now. The new N8 is to run the Symbian^3 platform and also has an impressive 12 megapixel camera using Carl Zeiss optics.

We have known most of the features for a while now with all the leaks going around, so it’s good to hear that most of what we heard was correct.

The 12 megapixel camera sensor also allows the Nokia N8 to be able to capture HD videos. A smart built-in editing suite is included on the device for quick edits to movies captured. The screen measures 3.5 inches and is also HD and capacitive touch. A HDMI connector is included on the N8 allowing it to connect right up to a HDTV if needed. [Read more…]

Viper SmartStart for iPhone to get Push Notifications

The iPhone ViperSmart system is an app that costs $30/year to use and an extra $500 to install kit in your car that allows you to remote start/stop and do other things to your car from anywhere in the world.

Right now the system only works one way in that you tell the car what to do and it does it. This is changing though as SmartStart will now be featuring push notifications that allows the car to feed back information to you regardless of the application being open or not. Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit Unboxed

The Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit is now being delivered. Jerrod H decided to post a few unboxing pictures to show exactly what’s in the box and what you can expect to be using the kit for.

The Camera Connection Kit comes with a paor of dongles that convert the 30 pin dock connector in to a USB connection. One of the dongles is home to an SD card reader while the other is a USB adapter allowing you to connect your camera up to the iPad.

Although USB is opened up on the iPad, it still is restricted to do exactly what it says in that you can transfer pictures from either an SD card or from a camera direct. [Read more…]

Apple iTravel App Uncovered

Patently Apple have found a patent by Apple [AAPL] that runs through a new application called iTravel. iTravel is said to be a system that focuses on matters such as Airport check-in and baggage identification as well as dealing with car rentals, hotels, travel booking and anything else travel related.

The system relies on near field communication (NFC) that seems to be in a few patents recently including the new Apple concert ticket patent.

It appears that NFC could be used in the iPhone 4G / HD that is expected to launch in a few months although it could also indicate that the iPhone that will launch 2011 might have NFC with all these patents getting ready to fully utilise the capabilities of the technology when it arrives in the hardware. Pebble Portable Charger can charge iPhone four times over

The Pebble Portable Charger is capable of charging several devices. Inside it has a 5000mAh battery that allows phones such as the iPhone 3G to be recharged four times over before needing to be recharged it’s self.

The device can be used for emergency battery charging and due to it’s small size, it fits comfortably in a bag or case while you are on travels.

Included in the pack are iPhone/iPod connections, Sony Ericsson, Mini USB and Nokia connectors making it capable of charging a variety of devices when needed. [Read more…]

Fujifilm HDP-L1 3D Camera Media Player

Last July, we wrote about the Fufifilm W1 3D camera that had two lenses allowing 3D images and movies to be captured. Fujifilm have now introduced the HDP-L1 that acts as a media player for your W1 3D content.

The device connects up to your TV where you then plug in a memory card from the W1 3D camera and it lets the 3D material be played on screen.

As well as being capable of being connected to a TV the HDP-L1 also has a USB port to connect it to a Mac or Windows computer. The player can also display 2D content if needed. [Read more…]

Android 2.2 On it’s Way

We reported yesterday that Android 2.2 (Froyo) was in the testing stages with a launch date due in the next month or so. Androidandme have pointed out that their stats software (Google Analytics) has already been seeing some traffic from Android 2.2 devices in the last few days as pictured below.

We checked the gadgetvenue statistics and have also noticed a few visitors using the Android 2.2 OS. Androidandme point out that Android builds only get numbered when close to release and with this information showing up in statistics, it appears that it isn’t too far away now. [Read more…]

Dell Android Smartphones Unveiled – Flash, Smoke and Thunder

Three new Dell Android phones have been unveiled called the Dell Flash, Dell Smoke and Dell Thunder.

Dell Flash Android Smartphone

The first phone to be unveiled is the Dell Flash (pictured above) that measures just 11mm thick. This phone has a 3.5 inch WVGA screen, connects up to HSPA networks on 850 / 1900 and 2100MHz networks with 14.4Mbps being the download speed limit. On the back is a 5 megapixel camera that has autofocus and image stabilisation along with features such as smile and blick detection. Inside is 512MB of RAM and ROM and the phone accepts microSD cards up to 64GB in capacity. That obviously indicates the phone is not due out for a while yet, perhaps late this year with memory cards that size.

For connectivity it has WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0 and the CPU is clocked at 800MHz provided by Qualcomm (the MSM7230 to be precise). This particular CPU is part of Qualcomm’s next generation of CPU’s that aims to bring the performance of the Snapdragon 1GHz CPUs to the phone along with HD video capabilities.

Amazon keep a running list of the best digital cameras in terms of what sells the most. The list starts off with a couple of point and shoot cameras and is then followed by a Digital SLR camera followed by another P&S and then another DSLR. The list is updated hourly providing a fairly accurate result set of what’s running at a good price at the moment.

Verizon Unveil Samsung Reality

Verizon [VZ] announced today the launch of the Samsung Reality Smartphone. The Samsung Reality is being launched tomorrow on the network.

The phone it’s self has a three inch touchscreen display that has a WQVGA resolution that can display 240 x 400 pixels. The Reality has a QWERTY keyboard that slides out to the side of the device for text entry.

Features of the Samsung Reality include a 3.2 megapixel camera capable of being used in night mode. For connectivity, Bluetooth although Wireless is not an option on the phone. For email, there is support for Microsoft Office Exchange allowing email, contacts and calendars to be synchronised with their desktop/exchange server. [Read more…]
