Apple iPad UK – PCWorld and Currys Still Have Stock

The Apple iPad UK launch went well although good news is that not all locations have sold out of stock yet. On Saturday, PC World and Currys had a number of locations with 10+ iPads in stock and the situation is similar today although a few more stores are now out of stock when comparing what we saw Saturday morning.

PC World and Currys don’t specify which models they have available, but we suspect the iPad Wi-Fi+3G 16GB model will be a difficult model to get as this was commonly out of stock at several Apple stores that were called over the weekend.

If you still want to get an iPad in the UK then check out the stock update pages on PC World and Currys and make a few calls and get yourself down there today. [Read more…]

Apple iPad DODOcase

If you are looking for a unique case for your Apple iPad then check out the DODOcase. The case is hand made over in San Francisco and designed to look similar to the Moleskine notepads, but hold the iPad inside rather than paper.

Each DODOcase is built using traditional book making methods with the outer cover being cut from boards. The rounded boards are cut to a size to be able to cover the iPad. High quality cloth is then used to be the cover of the iPad case after which, the boards and cover is hand put together and glued in to place to form the outer casing.

Mix that with a bamboo surrounding where the iPad squeezes snugly inside and you have one very nice looking case as demonstrated on the video below. [Read more…]

iPad UK Launch – Stock Still Available at PC World in Many Locations

Although the Apple [AAPL] store in London had queues of around 500 people around 6pm last night, it still seems you can pick up an iPad today in the UK if you want to. The iPad UK launch was considered a success with an estimated 200,000 sold in the first day.

Checking on the PC World site this morning we still see that many locations around the UK still have more than 10 iPads in stock although specific models are not broken down. We heard yesterday that the iPad UK launch saw many 16GB Wi-Fi+33G models being sold and this was the model commonly out of stock.

As well as PC World having more than 10 units at each location, we also see that Currys locations around the country have more than 10 in stock. PC World and Currys are part of the same company and use the same types of list to show stock which only indicates there is stock, not what stock. [Read more…]

iPad UK Launch a Success for Apple

The iPad UK launch happened today, May 28, and from what we hear it was a great success for Apple [AAPL].

Stores opened this morning for the iPad UK launch at 8am with a number of stores having people queue up outside since the night before.

Although the UK iPad launch has been successful, surprisingly there are still some stocks available in various locations. Geeky Gadgets called around a number of stores and from what they heard, the Apple iPad 16GB Wi-Fi+3G was the most popular and often out of stock, although other models were in stock at the time of calling. Apple iPad iBookstore gets More Premium Content

A couple of days ago the iBooks application for the iPad was made available in iTunes ready for download. Up till yesterday evening, the only books available were the free ones that have fallen out of copyright.

When checking this morning, we see that the regular eBooks have now populated the shelves of the iBookstore. When looking at the chart section we see it is split in to two sections of the top paid books and top free books with many popular books found in both sides of the screen. [Read more…]

Apple iPad Now on Sale Internationally

The Apple iPad has now launched in the UK and several other international locations. The device went on sale this morning in Apple stores in the UK at 8am. Currys and PC World also have stocks in some areas for the iPad.

For those who pre-ordered an iPad in the UK, you probably received yours a day early as TNT and UPS were both shipping units out yesterday although our own drive who delivered said that most people were not home, probably because they took today off and didn’t expect it yesterday.

If you want to get your hands on one today then you need to get to your local PC World, Currys or Apple store (check with each to make sure they have stock) and get there right away. Alternatively you can pre-order an iPad online although there is currently no stock of the iPad and a shipping date of just June is given. We estimate that Apple [AAPL] might get stock in mid-late June as the last batch of pre-orders were dated June 7. [Read more…]

Apple iPad Delivered Early in UK – Sparks Complaints

The Apple iPad started showing up a day early here in the UK and many other international locations from what we hear. You might have thought this was good news though, but according to sources this has caused a lot of upset customers who booked tomorrow off and missed today’s deliveries.

When speaking to the TNT driver who delivered our iPad here, he had 37 iPad’s on his route. Each TNT depot has a number of routes indicating that 100’s if not 1000’s were shipped out early by TNT per depot. He also told me that he had a cab full of boxes from Apple because nobody was home to receive them.

It is unclear if TNT shipped early when they shouldn’t have, or if Apple [AAPL] gave the go-ahead. On my own personal order it did say the iPad would be delivered on or before May 28 although I have to admit, I didn’t expect the “or before” to actually happen. [Read more…]

Apple iPad – UK Stores Open at 8am on Friday 28

The Apple iPad launch is just a few days away here in the UK. For those who didn’t pre-order and are going to be queuing up, Apple [AAPL] has decided to help out a little by letting you queue an hour less. Today, the company announced that Apple stores will be opening an hour earlier at 8am rather than 9am.

It isn’t known how much stock is available in each store, so it’s hard to judge if you need to be there early or not… as in begin queueing the night before for example. [Read more…]

iBooks for iPad Now Available for Download in UK

Update: iBooks has been removed from the UK store. Perhaps they are rewording the text that says it’s US only. We suspect it will back today or tomorrow.

In preparation for the launch of the Apple iPad, Apple [AAPL] has made the iBooks app available for download in the iTunes store in the UK. The application was uploaded today to the store and can be downloaded now. The only requirements are that you obviously need an iPad to run it on, but also that you are running the latest version of iTunes. If you are on an older version of iTunes, you cannot download it unless you download it direct on the iPad.

For those unfamiliar with iBooks, the application allows users to download and read books on the Apple iPad. The software has a UI that allows you to flip through pages with a swipe or tap on the screen and allows you to bookmark favourite pages.

When loading the application up you are presented with a bookshelf where you can select the book you want to read. The eBook store can found when tapping a button where the bookshelf rotates around to the back to reveal books you can buy. [Read more…]
