The New York Times is offering $100 of the Samsung Go Netbook when you subscribe to it’s Times Reader 2.0 subscription service. The Times Reader 2.0 is a piece of software designed for computers and is powered by the Adobe Air software. The application makes reading news papers feel more like reading a paper rather than a website.
However, it’s not all as cool as it sounds as the subscription to the NYT Times Reader 2.0 software costs a hefty $179.40 for the year and you’ll also have to pay another $279.99 for the netbook it’s self (after the $100 discount)making it a total of $459.39 to get the netbook cheaper. Netbooks have taken off over the last 18 months or so which is due to their small size and good usability. HTC mentioned recently that they want to be part of this when Peter Chou mentioned the are… “carefully looking into that category and how it can be part of that”. What HTC are not doing is becoming another me-too though by just creating another Netbook. What HTC want to do is something unique that makes their netbook range stand-out from the others.
When working on a netbook you often run in to the problem of not having enough screen estate. To tackle this problem a company have created a dual-screen netbook that allows you to view two 10.1 inch screens side by side that then slide one behind the other when not needed. By giving you an extra screen you get more screen estate, thus making your work on a netbook a little more productive.
ii-View has created a new netbook named the A2 netbook. The netbook uses an Intel Atom CPU running at 1.6GHz and has a healthy 2GB of RAM along with a large 320GB harddrive.
Acer have perhaps created a fantastic netbook here in the shape of the Acer Aspire AS1410 CULV. The AS1410 has a fair bit of power inside that includes a Celeron SU2300 1.2GHz processor that has 1MB of L2 Cache and an 800MHz front side bus. Also included in the Aspire AS1410 is 2GB of DDR2 memory that can be upgraded to 4GB.



Over at IFA in Berlin, Sony have announced the new VAIO X series netbook. The Sony Vaio X has an 11 inch screen and is very thin. The casing is made from carbon fibre that houses an aluminium keyboard. As the Vaio X uses lightweight materials it also is very light at just 700 grams.
A roadmap of upcoming Asus Eee netbook products has been leaked. It shows an impressive line of netbooks that will be appearing which includes a new 12″ netbook that uses the NVIDIA Ion graphics chip along with a tablet PC that will feature a multi-touch display.
MSI are working on a series of touchscreen netbooks that are planned for a late this year launch. The netbooks will be powered by the Intel Pine Trail-M platform.
