Human-Rh Digital Photo Frame with TV

digital-photo-frame-tv-tunerDigital Photo Frames tend to be kind of boring due to them sitting there just displaying pictures which makes them all the same. Occasionally a slightly nicer interface is available or you might find one that can receive images via email… but they are still boring. This latest one could possibly change that by introducing a DTV tuner that allows you to use the frame as a mini TV.

Android Embedded in to Digital Photo Frame

Fujitsu and Macnica have been working jointly on a project that puts Google Android’s OS on to a digital photo frame. From what looks to be mad reasoning a closer looks actually makes me think this could end up being a good thing. The Android OS was originally designed to be used on a mobile phone. It was then ported over to a netbook and then now on to a digital photo frame. You see, the main problem with digital photo frames is that the UI is generally rubbish. If Android makes the user experience far better then I am all for using Android on a photo frame. Using that OS also makes it possible to do other things with the photo frame like easier integration with online services. [Read more…]

iPhone 3 Specs Leaked

new-iphone-3It appears that some specs have leaked about the latest iPhone that is rumoured to be announced next month. The rumour comes from a Chinese Apple website and includes a picture of the technical specs. Specifications include a 32GB storage capacity, 600 MHz processor and 256MB of RAM.

If the rumours are true then we should be in for a snappier iPhone. To be honest it’s no real surprise that they would be bumping up the specs. The main questions left unanswered are what it will look like and if a hardware keyboard will be included. I don’t personally think they will bother with a keyboard, but I imagine that a slightly refined design in a similar shape and size to the current model will be in store. [Read more…]

Palm Foleo to use WebOS

palm-foleo-webosAlmost 2 years ago we mentioned that Palm were looking at launching the Palm Foleo. The Foleo is a netbook style device which was first drawn up about 10 – 12 years ago (although only referred to as a netBook). Back in 2007 when we mentioned the foleo, it was set to be pre-installed with a linux OS, have a 10″ screen and weigh about 2.5lbs. The Foleo shortly after was dropped. It seems like Palm might be trying to relaunch the Foleo again but this time using the WebOS operating system that the Pre is using. [Read more…]

Have Sony Given up on OLED TV’s?

A few weeks ago at Gadget Show Live I had the chance to check out Sony’s XEL-1 OLED TV. The TV measures 11″ diagonal and is just 3mm thick. The TV has been around a while now and unfortunately it will be Sony’s last OLED TV that they work on. A Sony spokesman admitted ‘We really made the XEL-1 just to prove that we could make it. Sony believe that OLED technology is more suited to mobile type devices.

Research/predictions done recently suggest that the big players in the OLED field in the future will be Panasonic, LG, Toshiba and Samsung with no mention of Sony. The OLED TV industry in just 6 years time is expected to be worth $5.5 billion so it seems odd that Sony have pulled the plug so to speak. (Hopefully we get official word soon on this matter as it’s unlike Sony to pull out of something like this).

OLED TV’s are fantastic devices as they have an extremely good contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1, reduced power consumption and are extremely thin. The current hurdle at the moment is cost with the XEL-1 costing up near $2500 for an 11″ screen. But, technology does get cheaper as advancements are made and it’s only a matter of time when we stick an ultra thin telly to our wall. [Read more…]
