Nokia have built a concept idea that is called the Mobile Radar. Mobile Radar is capable of measuring an objects distance and speed as well as direction all on a mobile phone. The screen shows all the details such as if they are travelling towards or away from you and how fast they are moving.

The radar functions also work through fabric allowing a phone to be held in a pocket or bag and still use gestures to turn it down. [Read more…]

More Apple Tablet Shots Found

Leaked images of what is thought to be the Apple Tablet have been sent in to Engadget late last night that show the device running some kind of mapping application as well as the tablet being compared to an iPhone.

Of course the pictures cannot be verified until we know what the device will look like “if” it is unveiled today. From what we see in the pictures the Tablet device looks to either be in some sort of funky case, or perhaps bolted to a desk to prevent staff stealing/borrowing it.

When compared with the Apple [AAPL] iPhone it appears that the tablet will have either a 9 or 10 inch screen. The back of the device is said to be aluminium and as for pricing it is expected to be $800 on contract or $1000 off contract and being made available in March. [Read more…]

Zeon Polariser Film Boosts LCD Contrast 10X

Zeon have created a new film for polarising plates that will boost the contrast of the LCD image by at least 10 times. The company also have created a similar kind of film for OLED based screens too.

The film is referred to as the phase difference film and is made of Cyclo Olefin Polymer that is compatible with IPS (in-plane-switching) technology. [Read more…]

iPhone AT&T Exclusivity to end Wednesday?

HotHardware are reporting that AT&T are to loose exclusivity of the Apple [AAPL] iPhone this Wednesday. No reports of other networks have been mentioned yet who are going to be taking the iPhone on-board, but this Wednesday also happens to coincide with a potential major Apple announcement which is believed to be the iSlate unveiling as well as iPhone OS 4.0 and now, perhaps the iPhone going on to other networks in the US.

Hothardware go on to mention that this could be a good thing for AT&T as the iPhone seems to be hurting their network. By giving options to customers on various networks will hopefully share the usage around and potentially lower the data used on each of the networks. [Read more…]

TomTom’s IQ Routes Reveal US Aren’t Speeding

TomTom uses a system called IQ Routes that uses real time and historical data to calculate the optimal route to your destination. By recording speeds of traffic at all times of the day the system knows which roads are slow and which route will get you to your destination the quickest. Two years worth of data has been collected with average speeds being calculated on free flowing highways in the US and the data reveals that people in the US don’t speed in general.

The report found that in some cases, speed limits were exceeded but in general the average speed was below the limits imposed on the roads tracked. Although we mentioned IQ Routes in the title of this post and the post it’s self, the data is actually calculated using data from Speed Profiles who provide the historical database to TomTom and integrated as IQ Routes. The data is collected anonymously from GPS units sat in cars that are connected up via a mobile phone’s data plan so real time information can be collected. [Read more…]

Apple iTablet Starts Showing up in Flurry App Tracking Stats

No solid evidence has been found yet about the new tablet device from Apple [AAPL] that “might” be unveiled this Wednesday. However, a company called Flurry who analyse mobile applications say that they have detected around 50 devices that are connecting up from the Cupertino campus and appear to be tablets.

The devices that have been connecting up are running a new OS numbered 3.2. Some of the apps downloaded use Flurry’s tracking code and when downloaded the numbers are reported back to Flurry along with details of the connected devices. It is currently believed that iPhone OS 4.0 could be also launched on Wednesday, so if these devices are tablets and are connecting up with 3.2 then it could mean that they are using a slightly modified version of 3.0 to test the iSlate / Tablet on and maybe we’ll still see version 4.0 at launch. Sony PS3 finally Hacked – Fully?

It took 3 years, 2 months and 11 days to finally hack the PS3 fully according to George Hotz (although it isn’t public yet how to achieve it, so for now we can’t confirm the truth of it). The hack was created by George Hotz who managed to use some hardware and software to break in to the system. Dumps of LV0 and LV1 have been created as well as the NAND. Other dumps will follow in the next few weeks it seems.

The exploit will not be revealed yet though while decryption keys are found allowing those who understand it all to hack in to their PS3. [Read more…]

Apple iSlate Could go to AT&T and Verizon

There’s more reports/rumours going around about Apple [AAPL] and their iSlate or Tablet device saying that both AT&T and Verizon could be making it available on their networks. Up till now there hasn’t been much, if any, solid evidence that the device will exist but bits of information have been pieced together making it quite likely that the device will be unveiled next week at an Apple event where a big announcement will be made.

It is believed that a “world version” will be made making it compatible on CDMA and GSM standard networks which should be announced Wednesday. However, other rumours are saying a couple of versions will be made making each compatible with a particular network. Either way, I am sure it will be cleared up on the 27th. [Read more…]

Keyboard vs Tablet vs iPhone etc… Text Entry Test

A test was done over at Gyford that put six devices to the test against each other to see which had the quickest input method. The list included a pen (yes, pen and paper), a keyboard, a Newton, Graffiti, Treo and iPhone. The test was run by timing how long it took to enter a 221 word block of text which the writer memorised a couple of years ago which reads…

I have enough faith in my fellow creatures in Great Britain to believe that when they have got over the delirium of the television, when they realize that their new homes that they have been put into are mortgaged to the hilt, when they realize that the moneylender has been elevated to the highest position in the land, when they realize that the refinements for which they should look are not there, that it is a vulgar society of which no decent person could be proud, when they realize all those things, when the years go by and they see the challenge of modern society not being met by the Tories who can consolidate their political powers only on the basis of national mediocrity, who are unable to exploit the resources of their scientists because they are prevented by the greed of their capitalism from doing so, when they realize that the flower of our youth goes abroad today because they are not being given opportunities of using their skill and their knowledge properly at home, when they realize that all the tides of history are flowing in our direction, that we are not beaten, that we represent the future: then, when we say it and mean it, then we shall lead our people to where they deserve to be led!
