Nokia C5 Smartphone Unveiled

Nokia have unveiled a new smartphone called the Nokia C5. The C5 is the beginning of a new series of phones called the Nokia Cseries that ads to the already available Xseries as well as unannounced phones in the Eseries and Nseries.

The C5 sits right in the middle of the Cseries class and runs the Series 60 3rd Edition symbian operating system. It has a 2.2 inch screen along with a 3.2 megapixel camera. Software wise, it comes pre-installed with Ovi Maps allowing for free navigation in a number of countries around the globe.

New features are included in the Nokia C5 such as the phone book that allows you to see friends Facebook status’ as well as send them messages from the phone book. [Read more…]

Windows 7 RC Shutdown Starts Today

Users of Windows 7 RC have been getting warnings for the past few weeks to upgrade their operating system due to the release candidate version expiring. The final date has now hit and if you are running Windows 7 RC then you are probably seeing your computer reboot every 2 hours leaving all open documents unsaved and perhaps being quite annoying at the same time.

If you feel you can live with the bi-hourly shut downs then go ahead and carry on using it although on June 1, the wallpaper will also be changed to say “this copy of Windows is not genuine”. At this point you will be unable to download updates as Windows Update doesn’t function with non genuine copies of the software. [Read more…]

Google Street View Images Could be Updated every 6 Months – EU Demands

Google Street View has caused a bit of a stir from time to time as some users feel it’s a little intrusive having a camera capture pictures of your home. Generally though it seems like most people actually think it’s a cool service to use.

Google [GOOG] had plans to update the images every 12 months when the service launched although this could be reduced in the EU has it’s way. The 12 monthly updates would allow Google to capture changes in scenery and buildings that have occurred over the year. However, due to various privacy reasons the EU want it changing to the 6 months we mentioned which could lead to great expense for Google to effectively double it’s efforts to achieve the same work. Sony NV-U35 GPS for Bike Owners

Sony have announced a new GPS unit designed for bike users. The device is called the Sony NV-U34 and is more rugged than a traditional satnav unit allowing it to be used in all weather conditions.

The unit is quite small measuring 112 x 17.8 x 79mm and weighs 176 grams. It has a 3.5 inch QVGA screen that is also touchscreen displaying 320 x 240 pixels. The software built in allows for both 2D and 3D navigation. A specifically designed handlebar mount is also available allowing it to be securely attached to a bike.

Storage wise it has 8GB of memory built in which can be increased by using Memory Stick Duo cards. [Read more…]

ASUS Eee 1001PQ Intel Atom N450 Netbook

ASUS are launching a new Eee PC called the ASUS Eee 1001PQ that is aimed at children. The new netbook is an update from the MK90H that was “Disney-inspired” and is now upgraded to run an Intel Atom N450 CPU.

The new netbook is being launched at CeBIT this week and will come in a couple of different colour combinations which includes Yellow/Black and Black/Purple. As well as being colourful on the outside the inside palm rest is also coloured to match the outer casing.

Palm webOS 1.4 goes to Sprint, O2 and Movistar Networks

Yesterday, Palm released webOS 1.4 for the Palm Pre and Palm Pixi which brings a number of bug fixes and enhancements to the devices.

Now the update has been officially announced on the Sprint network (as reported yesterday) along with the O2 and Movistar networks. The download is 39MB in size and brings video recording as well as flash (Palm Pre only) to the smartphones.

Other networks are having to wait a little longer such as Verizon, Bell and Telcel with the only time scale being mentioned as “soon”. Hopefully these networks will built and push the update out soon. [Read more…]

Haleron iLet Mini HAL Tablet

The iLet Mini HAL is a tablet built by a company called Haleron. It is powered by an ARM CPU running at 600MHz and has a 7 inch LCD touchscreen that has a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. Memory wise it has 128MB of DDR2 and for storage it comes with a 2GB NAND Flash with support for up to a 32GB Flash or a 250GB via USB.

Connectivity on the iLet tablet allows for wither wired or wireless internet that is compatible with 802.11b/g networks.

Ports available on the iLet are 2 X USB, Audio out, Microphone as well as an SD card slot for memory expansion. [Read more…]

Palm Pre and Pixi webOS 1.4 Updates Hit today on Sprint

The webOS 1.4 update is finally landing today that brings a bunch of new features to the Palm Pre and Palm Pixi handsets.

The webOS 1.4 update is heading to users on the Sprint network only at the moment with plans in the near future for Verizon users to also get the update.

Fixes to the smartphones in this firmware update include a time zone bug that was sorted. A network time sync bug has been fixed. Car-kit BT transition is fixed….

* No EV icon bug fixed (random)
* Random browser formatting bugs fixed
* Fixed bug that incorrectly displayed Sprint when actually was Digital Roaming
* Missing Contact issue specifically with swap down to 1.2.9.1 or less

ASUS Eee T101MT Hands-On

The ASUS Eee T101MT is an Intel Atom N450 netbook tablet that was first spotted a few weeks back. The ASUS T101MT recently started showing up various places to be reviewed.

The tablet has some fairly standard specs which include an Intel Atom N450 CPU with hyperthreading running at 1.66GHz. 2GB of RAM is included (on the review version) and for storage it uses a hard drive with a 320GB capacity that runs at 5400 RPM. The screen measures 10.1 inches and has a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. [Read more…]

Olympus PEN E-PL1 Micro Four Thirds Camera Now Available

The Olympus PEN E-PL1 Micro Four Thirds digital camera is now available over at Amazon in the US. The camera has a 12.3 megapixel sensor and is in the micro four thirds format allowing it to be compact as well as powerful.

A lens is included in the package which is a 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Zuiko digital zoom lens. On the back of the camera is a 2.7 inch HyperCrystal LCD display that also has Live View. The PEN E-PL1 is capable of capturing HD video and storage of images and video is to SD or SDHC memory cards (supplied separately). These shoes are designed to look like the shoes worn in the classic Billy Jean video which MJ wears when walking on floor tiles that light up. The problem though is that if you want your own light up floor then you are restricted to walking on that floor if you want light up squares under your feet. Normally, you wouldn’t be able to easily carry a vast amount of light up tiles around with you.

NVTouch Touch Table Surface Computer costs $70K

The NVTouch Touch Table is a multi user and mult-touch surface computer that allows you to integrated with a desk based system. By converting digital information in to images you are able to drag the contents of the computer around the surface. Example could be dragging and dropping photos in to various folders.

Other things that can be used on the surface computer are digital maps that can be grabbed, rotated, zoomed etc… by using gestures on the surface.

This particular version uses a computer with a powerful graphics card, a HD projector mounted under the table projecting an image upwards and puts it altogether in a cabinet that is smooth on top. [Read more…]
