Mac OS X Lion Developer Preview Available

If you are enrolled in the Mac Developer Program then Apple just made available the Max OS X Lion developer preview for you.

The preview is available through the Mac App Store and gives developers a glimpse of what is to come. As explained in the press release, Lion… “takes some of the best ideas from iPad and brings them back to the Mac for the eighth major release of the world’s most advanced operating system. Lion features Mission Control, an innovative new view of everything running on your Mac; Launchpad, a new home for all your Mac apps; full screen apps that use the entire Mac display; and new Multi-Touch gestures. FaceTime Arrives in Mac App Store

Along with todays 2011 MacBook Pro announcements, Apple has also made FaceTime available at the Mac App Store.

The service is very similar, if not the same as you have already used on the iMac and other Mac computers in that you load it up, login with your Apple ID and password, and then make video calls to other FaceTime devices which includes the iPod touch and iPhone 4. [Read more…]

2011 MacBook Pro Line Updated – Official

Well, it finally happened and not a minute too soon. Apple [AAPL] has announced a new range of MacBook Pro’s for 2011. The new 2011 MacBook Pro range is said to use the next generation processors, graphics as well as use the leaked Thunderbolt I/O technology.

New MacBook Pro Specs Leaked

Apple is more than likely going to be announcing a new refresh of the MacBook Pro range tomorrow. It is expected that these will be going on sale as early as tomorrow.

Website fscklog.com posted an image of the specs which include the following:

• 2.3Ghz Sandy Bridge Dual-Core Intel Core i5 Processor with a 3MB L3 Cache
• 4GB of DDR3 RAM clocked at 1333MHz
• A 320GB hard drive
• a 13.3-inch diagonal LED backlit display with a 1280×800 pixel resolution.
• Intel HD Graphics 3000 with 384MB of DDR3 RAM.
• An integrated FaceTime-HD camera
• An 8x Superdrive
• Two USB 2 ports, an SD card reader, FireWire 800, a MiniDisplay Port, Ethernet and, most interestingly, Thunderbolt port (perhaps Light Peak?)

iPad 2 Invites Arrive – March 2 As Expected

Earlier today, rumors hinted that Apple [AAPL] would be holding an iPad event on the 2nd March. This rumor has now been confirmed by the way of an invite as pictured above.

The iPad 2 will be announced this coming Wednesday along with what we believe to be pricing and an official release date. It isn’t clear if the iPad 2 will be released in mid to late March or early April, but expect it a few weeks after the announcement next week. [Read more…]

MacBook Pro Thunderbolt Connector Leaked

Some pictures have leaked of a 13 inch MacBook Pro that are believed to be the new 2011 model that could be launching as early as tomorrow.

One rumor that accompanies this is that Apple will also utilize some kind of Light Peak connector for high speed transfer between devices. This particular rumor was further strengthened last night when Intel announced an event also being held tomorrow. [Read more…]

iPad 2 Announcement Rumored for March 2

Yesterday, rumors began to circle about the iPad 2 launch being delayed till June to match the iPhone 5 release date. The WSJ is now reporting that Apple intend to launch a year after the original iPad (early April) and that the new iPad will be announced as early as next week on March 2nd.

If WSJ’s sources are correct (notice sources as in several), then the event will be held in San Francisco. [Read more…]

MacBook Pro Trademark Hints at Light Peak

Following on from yesterdays news about the possibility of Light Peak technology being added to the rumored MacBook Pro updates that are expected this week, Patently Apple has managed to dig up a trademark that was filed earlier this month by Apple.

The patent forms part of a MacBook Pro trademark filing that hints at some kind of fiber optic connection being added to future iterations of the laptop. This, mixed with the news yesterday, is providing a bit more evidence that Apple could be including a new high speed connector in their new devices. [Read more…]

Instapaper Founder Suggests Verizon iPhone Buyers Were Existing iPhone Users

Instapaper is a popular app for iOS based devices. Due to the popularity of it, it always manages to hold a decent rank in the News category. That rank is constantly between number 2 and 5.

With the steady rank and popularity, it manages to give the owner, Marco, a good look in to various spikes that iOS devices get in sales. For example, when the iPad launches in a new country, a spike happens on Instapaper downloads. Likewise, when the NYT had a large feature in December about the iPhone, Instapaper downloads spiked (2.86 times to be exact). [Read more…]

Microsoft Windows Phone 7 Update Begins Rolling Out

Microsoft [MSFT] has announced that it is rolling out a new Windows Phone 7 update, actually the first ever update for the platform.

Before you get excited about copy and paste though, this first update (first of many as the Windows Phone Blog mentions), is just a preparatory update that doesn’t change anything for the user in terms of day to day usage. 12 More File Types Added to Google Docs Viewer

Google has updated Google Docs Viewer to now include 12 more file types.

For those not familiar with Google Docs Viewer, it is the system that Google uses to allow you to read documents found in emails without downloading the attachments, or at least thats one way to use it. Rather than cluttering your harddrive with a bunch of documents you have downloaded, the Docs Viewer lets you quickly view them in GMail for example where a webpage opens containing the document. MacBook Pro Refresh Hinted At

A new MacBook Pro is about due, and we now are beginning to see hints that this is indeed the case. What we see today is that supplies are starting to dry up in various countries around the world. One of those is particular areas of the world is Asia where MacBook Pros are now shipping in 2 to 4 business days rather than in 24 hours.

To add to this, several other reports have also leaked information that show five new MacBook Pro models will be launched. As well as finding this information out, some model numbers were also provided which includes the MC720, MC721, MC723, MC724 and MC725. This is actually 1 model short of the six currently available MacBook Pros. This could mean that the larger 17 inch model is being dropped, but more likely that the mid range 15 inch model is being dropped. [Read more…]
