Apple iTravel App Uncovered

Patently Apple have found a patent by Apple [AAPL] that runs through a new application called iTravel. iTravel is said to be a system that focuses on matters such as Airport check-in and baggage identification as well as dealing with car rentals, hotels, travel booking and anything else travel related.

The system relies on near field communication (NFC) that seems to be in a few patents recently including the new Apple concert ticket patent.

It appears that NFC could be used in the iPhone 4G / HD that is expected to launch in a few months although it could also indicate that the iPhone that will launch 2011 might have NFC with all these patents getting ready to fully utilise the capabilities of the technology when it arrives in the hardware. Apple iPhone 4G – is it real?

It was earlier this week that Gizmodo released pictures of what is believed to be the official Apple iPhone 4G that is due to launch in June/July this year. Although it isn’t 100% clear that this is going to be the final version of the next gen iPhone, aka iPhone HD, it 99.9% resembles what we will probably see in June or July.

John Gruber of Daring Fireball has looked in to the whole iPhone 4G events of this week and covers various details such as how the iPhone left the campus, what the codes resemble on the back and a few other items. [Read more…]

Apple iPhone runs Google Android

Here is something we don’t see everyday, an iPhone that has been hacked to run Google Android. The video (embedded below) shows Android running on the iPhone. Not everything is in place such as the Android functions on various menus. The iPhone has had a few keys remapped to allow easier navigation around the phone, such as the power button being the back button and the volume buttons also having their own functions other than volume.

It doesn’t run the greatest, but it is an early build which the developer says is closer to an Alpha release than a Beta release. It does show potential though and although scrolling isn’t the quickest in the browser, the screen transitions are actually quite impressive and appear to beat my own G1 in terms of load speed. Adobe to drop Flash to iPhone Support for Apple Device

Adobe have announced that they are dropping the flash to iPhone converter from future versions of it’s software. This comes as no real surprise considering Apple [AAPL] recently blocked the use of CS5 for developing iPhone apps since the 3.3.1 article in the Developer Program License Agreement.

The information comes from Mike Chambers who is the principle product manager over at Adobe on the Flash platform. He basically sums up the changes as follows…

‘We will still be shipping the ability to target the iPhone and iPad in Flash CS5. However, we are not currently planning any additional investments in that feature, Mike says. In the post, he also criticizes Apple’s treatment of developers. ‘If you want to develop for the iPhone you have to be prepared for Apple to reject or restrict your development at anytime, and for seemingly any reason,

Apple iPhone 4G Teardown

Gizmodo are still publishing a lot of details about the iPhone 4G they managed to sneakily get hold of. Their latest on the iPhone 4G provides a teardown showing some of what’s inside although Apple [AAPL] have managed to do a good job at sealing the CPU and mainboard by encasing it in metal.

Some of the main changes include a main board that’s about 1/3 of the size of the iPhone 3GS. Apple seem to have crammed everything in to a smaller space perhaps to make way for the larger battery (17% larger). Also it shows how far technology can change within a year.

Although we won’t find out till June 22 if this is indeed the iPhone 4G for sure (although evidence strongly suggests it is), we just have to make do with the pictures we have and assume it is for now. [Read more…]

Apple MacBook Pro Discounts on Older Models

Last week the Apple MacBook Pro line of computers were updated to get faster processors, better battery life and general improvements around.

As can be expected, there’s some older stock out there that companies are now selling off at a cheaper price. Amazon has two 13.3 inch, 15 inch and 17 inch MacBook Pro models on discount at the moment and it seems like those prices will stay dropped until all stock is gone of the older MacBook Pro range. Apple iPad 3G Orders begin Processing

Yesterday we noticed that the Apple iPad 3G had slipped to May 7, but from a comment received we heard that those who pre-ordered were going to be getting them. This appears to have been confirmed by the above image showing $887.03 pending on someone’s bank account taken by Apple.

We know it’s not “ground breaking news” by any means, but with the Apple site showing “Late April” with no specific date for the majority of this month and then suddenly May 7, it did add to a bit of confusion as to when those with pre-orders were to receive them. [Read more…]

iPhone 4G Wanted Back by Apple

We expected to hear that Apple [AAPL] would want their iPhone 4G back from all the Gizmodo episodes yesterday. Gizmodo has gone and posted the formal request for the iPhone 4G which they only refer to as a device.

The formal request can be seen over on the Gizmodo site (assuming it is a formal request and all not staged) but anything like that would be pure speculation right now. Lets just see if Giz are invited to the Apple event on June 22. We assume they still will be. [Read more…]

Apple iPhone 4G to get Custom Processor – Rumour

Today has been quite a day for the Apple iPhone 4G due to leaked pics earlier. We are hearing rumours at the moment that indicate the next gen Apple [AAPL] device will get a custom processor much like the iPad got the custom A4.

The rumour comes from an “anonymous executive” speaking to the Korea Times. It is understood that Samsung, who previously designed the chips are no longer in charge of this part (as in the design) and that Apple themselves are designing the chip with Samsung only building them.

It was already expected that Apple would put the A4 or a similar chip in to the iPhone 4G, so this rumour doesn’t really come as a surprise. We already know the chip works well on the iPad and can provide 720p video, so implementing it in to a phone that will use the same OS shouldn’t really be that much of a challenge (we at least hope). Apple iPhone 4G Prototype Found

Of all the places Apple [AAPL] would want to find their lost Apple iPhone 4G prototype model, I bet the top of their list wouldn’t be a popular blog like Gizmodo.

From what we hear, Apple have lost an iPhone 4G or iPhone HD and somehow, Gizmodo managed to get their hands on the device…

It has been reported lost
Apple-connected John Gruber”from Daring Fireball”says that Apple has indeed lost a prototype iPhone and they want it back:

So I called around, and I now believe this is an actual unit from Apple ” a unit Apple is very interested in getting back.

Obviously someone found it, and here it is.
