Samsung SPF-800P Digital Photo Frame

SPF-800P-22Samsung are launching a new digital photo frame called the SPF-800P that has an 8 inch screen with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels.

The display is backlit by LED and the frame uses what Samsung call UI 2.0 which according to Samsung is easy to use. For storage the digital photo frame has 2GB of internal memory that can be expanded by using a microSD card. [Read more…]

JooJoo Hands-On

joojoo-iphoneThe JooJoo was revealed yesterday amidst a few issues between TechCrunch and Fusion Garage. CNET were the first to get a preview of the newly named JooJoo (formerly CrunchPad) that is a 12.1″ web browsing device. The device looks very sleek being very thin and also having a capacitive touchscreen.

On the right side of the device there are mic, headphone jacks and on the left a USB port to expand memory, or attach an external keyboard to the device. [Read more…]

Fusion Garage JooJoo Revealed

joojooWe spoke about the CrunchPad last week and about what had happened between TechCrunch and Fusion Garage and their breakup so to speak. At that time we only had one side of the story from TechCrunch. Fusion Garage have now spoken regarding the issues and basically said that no contract was in place. Engadget have a run down of the webcast that was given by Fusion Garage and go in to some of the details although I guess we’ll never really know what happened.

The JooJoo (formally known as CrunchPad) was revealed briefly showing a tablet style device with a touchscreen that boots direct in to a browser in about 9 seconds. [Read more…]

Barnes & Noble Nook Review Roundup

bn-nookA number of Gadget blogs managed to get their hands on a Barnes & Noble Nook for review this weekend. On Saturday we mentioned that the Nook was reported to have some lag on the colour screen and unfortunately the reviews seem to indicate the same issues in that there is a lot of lag causing the wrong things to load up along as the force close message seen on Android based phones.

The Nook is unique in that it has a smaller colour screen to allows you to flick through your library of books and tap on the screen to launch them on to the main e-ink screen. The smaller capacitive touch screen measures 3.5 inches while the larger e-ink screen measures 6 inches and is capable of displaying up to 16 shades of gray. [Read more…]

Barnes & Noble Nook gets Hands-On

nook-hands-onA tipster managed to supply Engadget with some hands on pictures of the Barnes & Noble Nook eBook reader. Although the eReader looks great, problems have been reported with a laggy Android interface.

Regarding the lag between the Android interface and e-ink display, the tipster mentioned that all he wanted to do was use the e-ink display as a touchscreen. The colour screen is small and he said although a nice idea, he wanted to get away from using it quickly. [Read more…]

Panasonic VIERA X1 HDTV Gets 36% Discount

Panasonic-VIERA-X1If you are looking for a decent HDTV this Christmas and want to catch a good discount then Amazon have a Panasonic VIERA X1 HDTV on offer with a 36% discount. The VIERA X1 is a smaller 26 inch screen that is ideal for a smaller living room or perhaps a bedroom and normally has a retail price of $549.95, but has been cut down to $349.98 at the moment on special offer.

A quick run down of specs show that the screen measures 26 inches as mentioned above and can display a HD resolution of 720p. An SD card reader is built in the TV allowing you to share pictures with friends and also a system called VIERA link allows compatible systems to all be controlled through the TV such as a Blu-ray player, sound system or HD camcorder. Sony XBR11, XBR12 and OLED Screens Leaked

sony-xbr11A leak shows that Sony are to launch a new range of TV’s that will probably go on display at CES in 2010 in just a few weeks time. Amongst the new TV’s is a new OLED screen that is a new model from the XEL-1 that was a 3mm thick, 11 inch OLED screen launched last year. As of now it is unknown what size of screen the new OLED TV will be. I’d expect it to be a larger screen to perhaps compete with the new 15 inch LG OLED screen.

Also a new HDTV called the Sony KDL-XBR12 series has been mentioned that uses “high range advanced LED RGB” backlighting to function allowing for blacker blacks due to being able to dim certain parts of the screen individually. [Read more…]

NEC NP610 Entry-Level Projector Announced

NEC-NP610NEC have announced a new projector named the NEC NP610. It falls in to the entry-level category but has a fairly bright projection of 3500 lumens making it work well in conference halls and class rooms.

For connectivity it supports DVI-I, VGA, 3 audio inputs and variable audio out. Connectivity over a network is also possible although network connectivity is simply for remote diagnostics rather than transmitting presentations over IP. The VGA connector is also able to carry control signals so that the connected computer can control projector functions if needed. [Read more…]

Ideum Ultra-Wide Multitouch Table

ideum_ultra-wide_touchscreen_tableIdeum have created a multi-touch table that is designed to be ultra-wide and one of the largest tables of it’s sort created.

The new system has a 100 inch surface that provides an 86 inch visible and workable area and it is capable of detecting up to 50 touch points at the same time.

Having a resolution of 2304 x 800 along with a 16:5 aspect ratio it provides a decent quality image that several people can work to manipulate at the same time. The multitouch table is installed at the Space Chase Gallery in Nashville and has been programmed to represent different waves in the EM spectrum and give a display related to the location installed. AUO 65″ LED eco-friendly Display is 7.9mm Thin

eco_friendly_led_panelAU Optronics Corp have created range of new TV’s and ePaper screens that were put on display today over at FPD International in Yokohama in Japan.

Included in the lineup of displays is a 65″ LED panel that measures 7.9mm thick and has High Dynamic Contrast. The panel is being touted as being eco-friendly and according to the press release, it consumes 50% less power than average. It has a contrast ratio of 2,000,000:1 and uses a pre-mixed LED Light Cell that has 256 zones of local dimming. [Read more…]

Samsung Colour e-paper Prototype Revealed

samsung-color-e-paperSamsung have created a new colour e-paper display that measures 10.1 inches. Right now it’s just a prototype and it has a contrast ratio of just 10:1 making it not too clear at all. The screen also only has the ability to reproduce 7% of the NTSC colours. Yes, it could be a while before it goes in to production but it is a great step in the right direction.

Samsung aim to have the colour e-paper available in about 2 years time which will be about a year after PVI create colour displays for both Kindles and Sony Readers. [Read more…]

Transparent OLED Displays by LG and Samsung

lg_display_15-inch_transparent_oled_1LG and Samsung have been showing off some cool transparent OLED displays. The LG screen measures 15 inches and could work in notebooks. Samsungs screen measures just 2 inches and could potentially be used in mobile phones.

It is unclear why transparent screens are needed unless perhaps used for shining light through to project on to a larger screen, but even if they have no purpose they still look rather good.

Instead of using the back section of the screen that prevents transparency, this has instead been removed. Each has a transparency of 30%. For the LG screen it is unknown what the resolution is, but the smaller Samsung screen can show 176 x 220 pixels. [Read more…]
