Apple iPhone OS Going to new Platforms?

Apple’s [AAPL] iPhone OS might be moving on to other platforms other than the iPhone and iPad that we currently know about. This rumour has started due to a job listing that was found which said….

The Core Platform team within Apple’s Core OS organization is looking for a talented and inspired manager to lead a team focused on bring-up of iPhone OS on new platforms. The team is responsible for low level platform architecture, firmware, core drivers and bring-up of new hardware platforms. The team consists of talented engineers with experience in hardware, firmware, IOKit drivers, security and platform architecture.

LG T280 Thin and Light Notebook

LG have introduced a new thin and light notebook computer called the LG T280. The T280 has an 11.6 inch screen that can display a fairly high resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. The notebook is powered by an Intel CULV processor.

Two options of processors are being made available for the LG T280 which include a 1.3GHz Pentium SU4100 dual core CPU or a 1.3GHz Duo SU7300 processor. For graphics this notebook has the usual integrated Intel GMA 4500MHD chipset.

Memory and storage wise it has 2GB of RAM along with a 500GB hard drive for storage. Connectivity includes wireless 802.11b/g/n [Read more…]

HTC Desire ROM now Ready for Nexus One

Last week we mentioned that someone had already started working on porting the HTC Desire ROM over to the Google [GOOG] Nexus One. At the time of writing that, the port wasn’t quite ready due to a few issues with memory allocations. We now hear that an Alpha version has been released.

As well as bringing Sense UI to the Nexus One, this Alpha release also brings flash 10.1 for Android to the phone. With it being in Alpha there are still a few niggles in the ROM that are still being worked out.

Lenovo Thinkpad W701 with USB 3.0 and 16GB of RAM

Lenovo have just announced their new Thinkpad X201 series of laptops that we just mentioned. We also hear that they have created some high-end laptops that come with USB 3.0 and 16GB of RAM. The new Lenovo Thinkpad W701 is the companies first Thinkpad to feature USB 3.0 and is capable of transferring date at up to 5GBps.

The laptop isn’t small as it packs in a lot of high-spec features that includes plenty of RAM at 16GB, a Quad-Core 2GHz Core i7 processor (on the top end of the range) and is capable of handling demanding visual editing.

The graphics card tops out at the Quadro FX 3800M that allows pro-level 3D rendering. Storage wise it has the option of either a harddrive with a 160GB capacity or an SSD with a 128GB capacity. [Read more…]

Lenovo Thinkpad X201, X201s, X201t Laptops Announced

Last week we spotted some documents of the Lenovo Thinkpad X201 range. At that time there were no official pictures, and just line drawings of what the X201 will look like. We now have the official details.

The X200 series is getting an overhaul as expected. They will now be known as the Lenovo Thinkpad X201, X201s and X201t. The X201 and X201s each have a 12.1 inch form factor with the option for touchpads. Processor wise you’ll get the option of a Core i7 or Core i5 processor. Both these models will weigh in at less than three pounds if using the regular 4-cell battery. Out of these two models the X201s is the lighter and thinner of the two and this model only allows for a Core i7 processor to be selected. [Read more…]

LG Unveil 13.3 Inch Capacitive Multi-Touch Laptop Screen

LG have created a new display that has obtained the Windows 7 Touch Logo certification. The screen measures 13.3 inches and is a capacitive multitouch screen that is designed for netbooks and laptops.

LG have taken a slightly different approach in creating this touchscreen. Normally a layer is applied over a standard display. In this case, LG have built touch sensor within the display it’s self. Benefits of using this type of system are that the screen size can stay the same thickness regardless of it being touch or not (which ads slight bulk to a screen). Also picture quality is not filtered at all allowing for crisp images to be seen. [Read more…]

Samsung Launch Five new Lenses

Samsung are launching five new camera lenses for their Samsung NX10 that we first mentioned early in January. The new lenses being made available vary in what they can achieve starting with a fairly standard 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens that gives a fairly wide angle and can be used for zooming in a little to shots.

The next is a 20mm f/2.8 pancake lens allowing for wide angle shots with a fairly wide aperture that can let in some decent amount of light. The next lens is a macro lens that is a 60mm f/2.7. Next is the 20-50mm f.3.5-5.6 and funally an 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 for zooming in more closely to subjects. [Read more…]

webOS 1.4 Coming February 25

webOS 1.4 was first pencilled in for a February 15 launch. This didn’t happen for various unknown reasons. What we hear now is that the new webOS update will start rolling out in just 3 days time on February 25. The update process of the Palm Pre is that 100,000 devices get the update at a time. Once those updates have completed the next 100,000 devices get the update.

Updates that are to be included in this version change are video recording, Flash 10.1 compatibility and various speed improvements.

Also an update to fix an LED error is also rumoured to be included in this next update. [Read more…]

Casio EX-10HG GPS Enabled Camera

Back at CES in Vegas last month, Casio had on display a concept camera called the Casio EX-10HG. This particular camera is similar to EX-FH100 but is different in that it has a built in GPS chip. The GPS chip is utilised more than just geo-tagging though and can be used as a guidance system by pulling data from Google Maps to show you exactly where you are at any given time.

Over at PMA that’s running at the moment, a Casio representative revealed that the concept camera was actually to be launched this year in October and will have a price point of $400. [Read more…]

Google Earth goes to Android

The Apple iPhone managed to get Google Earth quite a while back now. For some reason Google [GOOG] haven’t launched Google Earth on the Android until now.

If you are running Android 2.1 then you should see Google Earth available in the market ready to download and install as you so wish. The Android 2.1 version of Google Earth allows users to move around and explore the world in the palm of their hand. Gestures can be used to navigate around the globe such as swiping your finger to rotate the globe.

Included in Android Google Earth is all the same 3D imagery that you can find in the desktop version. As well as showing map data you can also search for various places and points of interest. [Read more…]

Samsung TL500 Looks Promising

Samsung have launched the Samsung TL500 point and shoot digital camera. The camera it’s self belongs to the “high-end” of point and shoot cameras in that the features it have bring it close to how a DSLR camera functions except for not having an interchangeable lens which keeps the size down.

The lens included with the camera although fixed to the body is actually quite capable and has a wide aperture of f/1.8 allowing plenty of light to hit the sensor for darkened shots. Full manual controls can be found with multiple control dials to get the camera to take the shot you want it to take. [Read more…]

Sony Concept Camera Unveiled

Sony are working on a new ultra-compact camera that uses interchangeable lenses. The new DSLR is currently being developed and is scheduled for launch this year. The camera uses a newly developed Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor that supports HD video recording in the AVCHD format.

As well as introducing and showing an early design of the ultra-compact camera, Sony also had on show their latest DSLR called the a700 which at this moment in time, is also a concept/mock up. This camera falls in to the mid-range area of cameras from Sony and is aimed at so called “prosumers” and those who immerse themselves more in to photography. [Read more…]
