Windows Phone to Get Nokia PureView Cameras

Nokia has confirmed that the new PureView camera technology will be installed on various Windows Phones which are coming soon. For those of you unsure, PureView comes from a new Symbian based smartphone called the Nokia 808 PureView and is used to identify a cameraphone different to others that you have seen. The sensor on the Symbian version is 41 megapixels allowing for extremely high res pictures to be taken or for lower res images to be digitally zoomed without losing any quality.

Nokia Video Hints at a New Phone with Better Camera Launching

It appears that Nokia is about to step up a little again and introduce a new camera on a smartphone. The flagship camera phone at the moment is the 12 megapixel Nokia N8 although this is getting quite old now. A video posted shows several images each with a tag like of “Get Ready to Capture a Pure View”.

iOS 5.1 GM Might get Japanese Siri and Slide to Camera

The current version of iOS 5.1 for developers is the beta 3 version. BGR appears to have got hold of an early version of iOS 5.1 GM though and along with it, they have detailed a couple of new features.

The first is a slide up to access the camera which is similar to what is on iOS 5. In this version the small camera icon can be slid up the lock screen to reveal the camera view finder. It doesn’t really change much, but the slide instead of tap is noticeable. I am guessing that the big change here will be with the icon always being available on the lock screen. At the moment, the camera icon only appears after a double-tap on the home button.

Singapore Launches a Camera-Less iPhone 4S

Last week, various blogs reported that Singapore operator M1, was about to launch an iPhone 4S without a camera. The reason for it is related to the military in that country prohibiting the use of mobile phones with cameras. To get around that regulation, M1 has removed the cameras from the iPhone 4S and is selling it without. With the modifications, the iPhone 4S is now approved for use.

Camera+ App for iPhone Gets VolumeSnap Feature Back

It appears that the API for iOS 5 now allows for buttons to be used within apps. If you remember last year when the Camera+ app was yanked from the app store, the reason for it was that it used a hardware button to control the shutter on the camera. Apple didn’t like this.

iOS 5 Panorama Camera Mode Can Be Activated Without Jailbreaking

A couple of days ago a feature was found in iOS 5 that revealed the camera app has a deactivated panorama mode built in. Apple has chosen to simply switch it off so that the option is not available. We don’t know the reason for this other than it probably isn’t a finished feature yet which will be activated at a later date when Apple have tidied it up a little.
