What we learn today is that the headphone volume control can also be used as a shutter button.

Apple Patent Could See Camera/Mic Remotely Deactivate

Apple has filed a rather unique patent that makes use of infrared transmitters to interact with the iPhone. What the patent shows is an IR sensor installed at a venue and when the camera picks up the sensor, the device can either access information about where a user is, or have features disabled.

Modified Camera and Proximity Sensor Found in White iPhone 4

Now that the white iPhone 4 has arrived, 9 months late, it’s time to take a quick look inside to see what changes have been made. We hear that the device is 0.2mm thicker than the black version and this could be to do with extra UV filtering on the front panel that Apple needed to add. (Phil Schiller doesn’t agree to that though… tweet now deleted).

Differences that have also been found are the camera and the proximity sensor which have both been modified a little. This could be for a number of reasons, but more than likely it’s the fix to what was broken on the original white iPhone 4 when it didn’t launch due to technical problems. Alternatively, it could be just different parts as the new white version has been manufactured a lot later.

Nokia T7 Photo Leaks Reveal 8 Megapixel Camera

The Nokia T7-00 was first spotted a few days ago when the name was spotted in a Symbian^3 file. The note made mention of the device as well as details of it having a 360×640 pixel display.

What we learn now is that the device will be very similar to the Nokia N8 in design and that it will carry an 8 megapixel camera (compared to the 12MP of the Nokia N8).

Next Gen iPod Nano Could Get Camera(s)

The iPod nano is currently in its sixth generation. Most of the previous generations have seen changes to the design, with the 6th gen shrinking the unit right down and putting a touchscreen on the front of it.

We see today that Apple [AAPL], is working on a new seventh generation model that keeps the same form factor as the 6th gen model. The main difference though is that it looks like it will get a camera on the back, and perhaps on the front. The leaked image (larger version below), shows what looks to be the 6th gen device but with a camera hole cut out of the top right of the unit. [Read more…]

Verizon iPhone 4 Launch On Camera

iPhone and iPad launches are known for their huge queues. I’ve experienced it myself once, not again mind you.

What normally happens is that you get there early in the morning, sometimes a week before in the case of some people, and stand around and wait while a queue slowly moves.

Yesterday saw the launch of the Verizon iPhone 4 and Apple was prepared with all the staff as expected. Lots of clapping and lots of organisation in the mall to make sure everybody queues in the right place to prevent risks in case of fire etc… However, this one went a little different than usual: [Read more…]

iPad 2 Goes in to Production – Cameras Included

Apple has given the go ahead for the iPad 2 to go in to production. This is according to the WSJ who reported that the second generation tablet device would have a front facing camera allowing video calls to be made.

We also hear more confirmations that the screen will not be a higher resolution. Earlier reports have been swayed both ways with some saying the screen will be retina and others saying it will be the same but thinner with a thinner bezel around the edge. This report from the WSJ hints at it not getting a retina display this time around although this could happen on the iPad 3. [Read more…]

Canon Introduce Canon T3i and T3 Digital SLR Cameras

Canon has announced two new digital SLR cameras called the Canon T3i and the T3. The T3i (also known as the 600D in the UK) is a step up from the Canon T2i that launched last year. This model has an 18 megapixel CMOS sensor similar to what is found in the EOS 550D, 60D and 7D although Photo Radar comment that the sensor is slightly different although it’s unclear in what ways. The sensor allows it to capture full HD video.

The Canon T3i has an articulating LCD screen that can move out and swivel around for times when the camera needs to be held low or high, or at some obscure angle. This particular model sits at the top of the entry-level stack of cameras while the Canon T3 is designed more for beginners to use. [Read more…]
