Apple iPhone 4G Could launch June 21

Apple [AAPL] is more than likely going to announce the Apple iPhone 4G early next month. We are currently hearing that AT&T [T] are making changes to customer upgrades bringing the eligibility dates from November 21 2010 over to June 21 2010 knocking 5 months off the contract terms.

This is causing speculation that AT&T are going to allow customers of the iPhone 3GS to upgrade to the iPhone 4G on June 21.

Last year caused a number of headaches for AT&T with customers complaining that they couldn’t upgrade to the 3GS from the 3G unless buying themselves out of the contract they had signed. It seems like AT&T are backing down here by allowing 3GS users to upgrade to the latest iPhone. [Read more…]

Apple iPhone 4G Spotted Again

After the huge leak over on Gizmodo about the Apple iPhone 4G, we are now seeing more pictures of what looks to be a slightly updated prototype model. When we say updated, we mean a couple of screws around the dock connector are not on this version captured by camera.

Other than that the phone appears to be a prototype due to the XXX stamp on the back although this model of the Apple iPhone 4G looks to have 16GB of storage.

The phone was captured on a Vietnamese website which we assume had close contacts with the factory where the iPhone 4G is being built for Apple [AAPL]. [Read more…]

Android Smartphones Outselling Apple iPhone – US Numbers

Data collected by the NPD Group indicate that smartphones running the Android OS are now outselling the Apple iPhone for the first time.

This switch over in sales puts Android as the second most selling OS behind RIM devices.

In the first quarter of 2010, Android from Google [GOOG] took about 28% of all handsets followed by Apple at 21% and just behind RIM at 36%. [Read more…]

Apple iPhone 4G Case Captured on Video

We already know what the iPhone 4G will look like thanks to Gizmodo last month sneakily unveiling it. Apple [AAPL] in this next-gen model has decided to change the design of the phone by taking away the rounded corners that we have seen on all previous iterations and have given the phone a very different look.

The video below shows a capture of the screen and the middle section of the iPhone 4G. The video comes courtesy of Smartphonemedic who somehow have managed to get hold of some spare parts. When more parts are received they will be creating another video.

The video can be found below… [Read more…]

Apple iPhone to get Mobile Payments

Visa and DeviceFidelity are working with Apple [AAPL] to bring mobile payments to Apple iPhone users. The new system works with the iPhone sat in a protective case that has a secure memory card that is home to a contactless payment application called Visa PayWave.

The system is only designed right now to work with the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS with no next-gen model being mentioned. When active, the system will allow users to easily pay for small products and items as well as make purchases at vending machines by simply waving the phone in front of a contact-less pay system.

In the US there are 1000’s of companies who already accept contactless payment that are compatible with this system. As well as working with the iPhone with a special case, any mobile phone with a memory card slot will also work as the Visa chip can also utilise a microSD card slot. [Read more…]

AT&T iPhone Exclusivity extends to 2011

It appears that Verizon [VZ] are not going to be getting the Apple iPhone on their network this year thanks to Apple [AAPL] extending the exclusive agreement until the start of 2011.

Reasons for the extension are believed to be the way AT&T handled the Apple iPad 3G subscription charges and pricing structure.

The deal is claimed to have happened as follows…

AT&T had to do something dramatic to get the iPad. [AT&T’s negotiated a 50% discount on iPad data plans with Apple] For that pricing, AT&T was able to negotiate a six-month extension on the iPhone exclusive.

Apple iPhone 3G turned in to Wireless Hotspot for Apple iPad

For those who don’t want to spend an extra $130 + monthly costs on an Apple iPad 3G, but want to still connect to the internet when there is no wireless signal around, an application can now convert your Apple iPhone 3G/3GS in to a wireless hotspot allowing a wifi iPad or other wireless device to connect up and share the unlimited data.

The application is called MyWi and is available for download on Rock, ie, you need to jailbreak your iPhone to get it to work. Once installed you can load up the app, enable WiFii Tethering by switching it to On and a wireless network is then created allowing you to connect up your iPad and share the data connection. Apple iPhone OS 4.0 Beta 3 Demod on Video

Beta 3 of the latest iPhone OS 4.0 was released a couple of days ago which revealed a few new features not found previously. New features include a new iPod dock section that brings up basic controls in to the dock area. Also an orientation lock was found allowing you to prevent the iPhone screen from rotating when the phone changes orientation. The iPad has this function built in but uses a physical switch instead of a virtual button on-screen like the iPhone and iPod Touch devices.

A demonstration has been made that shows the new iPhone OS 4.0 in action along with the new features that Beta 3 brings to the phone. The OS was demonstrated on the iPhone 3GS due to the 3G and some iPod Touch models not allowing multitouch to function (unless jailbroke of course). [Read more…]

Apple iPhone 4G to get HD Video Recording

With the launch of the latest iPhone OS 4.0 SDK Beta 3 a few days ago, a few more details of the new Apple [AAPL] device that could be called the iPhone 4G or iPhone HD are emerging. From what we are hearing now, it seems that the next-gen iPhone is set to get a 720p HD video recording option.

The information comes from some preset values found within the SDK which read as follows…

AVCaptureSessionPreset640x480
AVCaptureSessionPreset1280x720

The second option there is clearly HD. With the iPhone 4G believed to be having a rear facing 5 megapixel camera, it certainly isn’t out of the question that it could handle HD recording. [Read more…]

Apple iPhone OS 4.0 Beta 3 brings iPod Controls to Dock

Engadget managed to find a few new things in the latest beta version of Apple iPhone OS 4.0 beta 3.

Included in this beta appears to be iPod controls that open up in the dock bringing a skip back, play and skip forward control to the lower portion of the screen. To access these controls it just requires a swipe left of the finger to the edge of the screen.

The icon pictured on the left isn’t clear what it actually does although Engadget do mention it could be a screen orientation lock. [Read more…]

Apple iPhone 3G / 3GS Form Factor Patent

Apple [AAPL] has finally been granted a patent that basically protects the form factor of the iPhone 3G and 3GS. The patent number is D615083 that protects the shape of the iPhone preventing others from legally copying it.

Looking over the images found below we see that all features seem to be in place such as the volume control, silent switch, SIM card slot, headphone jack, ear speaker, microphone and loud speaker, dock connector etc… but for some reason the home button towards the bottom of the screen on ALL iPhone variations is not included. Apple [AAPL] has released the latest beta SDK today. The latest is now iPhone SDK 4 beta 3 that is ready for developers to download on the Apple site.

We haven’t taken a look yet as to what is included, but do recommend that if you plan on testing that you be prepared for the worst and anything you get will be better. What we have heard is that the camera now works on the iPhone with this beta installed, and it runs more stable than previous versions.

We do not know the official iPhone OS 4.0 release date just yet although some rumours are pointing to early June where it is also expected that the Apple iPhone 4G will be launched. [Read more…]
