HTC DROID Incredible Officially Announced – $200 on Verizon

Verizon [VZ] have made the DROID Incredible official by way of a press release. The press release confirms all the details we have already seen such as the Android 2.1 operating system from Google [GOOG] along with a 3.7 inch AMOLED screen and a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU.

The press release also confirms the April 29 release date with an on-contract price tag of $199.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate.

The phone it’s self is said to have seamless integration with Exchange ActiveSync and as it’s an Android 2.1 based smartphone, it also gives access to the Google Market Place where you can download from a library of 30,000 apps. [Read more…]

Motorola Android 2.1 Updates Outlined

Motorola have outlined their Android 2.1 roadmap to get all their Android handsets current with the latest version of Android, ie, 2.1.

There are currently six Android phones listed by Motorola of which the DROID has already gone through the process of OTA updates to Android 2.1. Next on the list is the MILESTONE that also has had updates pushed out to it and this process “should” be complete by now.

The Motorola CLIQ and CLIQ XT are both pencilled in for a Q3 OTA update and following that is the Motorola BACKFLIP and some country versions of the DEXT. The Motorola DEVOUR however, is under review perhaps due to how recently it launched. [Read more…]

Toshiba Windows 7 and Android Tablets Launching

Toshiba are in the process of creating a new range of tablet computers that are going to be launched later this year. Details of the tablet computers indicate that they will come with different options of operating systems which will include Android OS from Google [GOOG] along with Windows 7 from Microsoft [MSFT].

Specifically mentioned was a 10 inch tablet that will run Google Android and this model will be the cheaper of two models that have been mentioned.

The Toshiba Windows 7 tablet is said to be a little more powerful and also could include dual displays to make a booklet device which seems to be similar to the Microsoft Courier. [Read more…]

Official Twitter App Heading to Google Android

Evan Williams of Twitter announced at the Chirp conference that the microblogging network will be launching an Android app.

Right now it isn’t clear who will create the app, as in will it be built in house or will they acquire a company and work on their app, or if they will even higher 3rd party developers. Either way, the official Twitter Android app will be coming sometime soon.

Saturday just gone, Twitter acquired a company called Tweetie who created a very good twitter application on the iPhone. Now that this has been purchased the application is being called Twitter for iPhone and will not be charged for like it currently is. We are unsure of the time line but we suspect the minor changes to price and a name are just going through app store approval which should be complete by the end of the month. [Read more…]

DROID Incredible Specs now Official

Verizon [VZ] have published the official specs for the DROID Incredible by HTC on their website.

The specs are as we expected in that it has a 3.7 inch OLED touchscreen that can display a 480×800 resolution (WVGA). The camera on the back is capable of capturing in 8 megapixels. Game Gripper for Motorola DROID

The Game Gripper is a device designed for the Motorola DROID/MILESTONE that allows you to use the keyboard as a game controller.

The device slides over the keyboard of the DROID and essentially moves the D-Pad that’s on the right of the DROID keyboard to a controller like D-Pad on the left side of the keyboard in a more familiar place.

As well as moving the D-Pad to the correct location, 8 buttons are also added that can be customised for playing games on your DROID. [Read more…]

LG LU2300 Android Smartphone Spotted

The lG LU2300 was first spotted back on April 7 at which point it was referred to as the LG Aloha. The phone has now been made official when LG made an announcement about it.

The phone is to be called the LG LU2300 and when launched will run the Google Android operating system. The Android version will be 2.1 from what we have heard.

Feature of the phone include a 3.5 inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen and the phone it’s self is powered by a Qualcomm 1GHz Snapdragon CPU. The phone is a slider phone with a QWERTY keyboard that slides out from the side of the device. [Read more…]

Motorola DROID Android 2.1 OTA Updates to finish Tomorrow

Finally last week (March 30), Motorola DROID users in the US finally started seeing OTA updates arriving on their phones bringing the version up to Android 2.1. We expected to see that all DROID’s were updated by the end of the week although it seems like updates are still happening over a week later.

If you are still waiting for an OTA update then we hear that all phones should be running it by tomorrow April 9 as Verizon have commented that updates will arrive by the end of this week. [Read more…]

Android Market gets over 9000 new Apps in March

Android is enjoying some good growth at the moment with a whole range of new phones opting to use Android as their operating system.

This growth rate also has developers excited it seems as in March this year there were 9,308 new applications added to the Android Market which is streets ahead of any previous months and approaching double what it was the previous month.

In fact, numbers have been counted since July 2009 for this particular chart where in that first month 1557 apps were added to the market. Every month since then has been an improvement and looking at the shape of the graph it seems like April’s numbers should easily beat it. [Read more…]

LG Aloha Android Smartphone Captured

Some pictures of the LG Aloha Android based smartphone have been spotted. The Aloha it’s self is yet to be announced but from what we hear it is to be a high-end phone that will run a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU from Qualcomm and have a 3.5 inch AMOLED touchscreen that has a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels.

The camera on the back is said to be capable of capturing images at five megapixels. From the pictures we also see that the LG Aloha has a slide out QWERTY keyboard that is designed for those who prefer to work with physical keyboards rather than virtual keyboards.

The phone front is black and mostly covered by the screen and appears to have a search and home button on the front along with what looks to be an optical trackball. The keyboard when slide out looks to be brushed aluminium or something similar. [Read more…]

ICD Gemini Android Based Tablet – Tegra 2 Based

ICD have introduced a new Android OS based tablet computer. ICD were first seen back in Las Vegas at CES 2010 where a couple of Tegra 2 based devices were on display (the Vega and Ultra). They are now launching the ICD Gemini that also uses the next generation 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra Chipset.

Features included in the ICD Gemini include an 11.2 inch touchscreen. Two screens will be available which include a capacitive and a resistive touchscreen, both of which are multitouch capable.

As previously mentioned, the operating system running on the Gemini will be provided by Google [GOOG], ie, the Android OS although it isn’t clear right now which version. We hope for at least 2.0 or even 2.1, but have seen some devices still running 1.6, so we’ll update when we find that information out. [Read more…]

Android OS based TVs Built by People of Lava

People of Lava is a Swedish based company who are creating a range of new TV’s. The new TVs are called Scandinavia and the variants of this model can be found.

The HDTVs come in three sizes of 42 inches, 47 inches and 55 inches and are each full HDTV sets that are capable of running full HD in 1080p. Other features include an ARM Cortex A8 processor that runs at 833MHz, HDMI port, USB 2.0 port and a DVB-T digital TV tuner built in. [Read more…]
