EpicWin iPhone App Makes your To-Do List an RPG

If you use a task list or to-do list as it is also known as, you might be like many people in that your tasks just stay on the list and never actually get done.

Canon EOS 7DSV Studio Version Announced

Canon has announced a new version of the Canon EOS 7D called the 7DSV which means Studio Version.

New features within the camera include an optional barcode solution as well as a locking feature that gives admin control over the camera.

The Locking feature on the EOS 7D allows an administrator to lock/disable various functions and settings on a camera which essentially only gives the user the options they need to complete a job. Four different lock levels are allowed that disable various aspects of the camera.

Custom functionality management is also achieved through each level by unlocking individual features according to operator-specific needs. This complete level of control is guarded by a daily password preventing anyone with a different vision from changing the camera settings and disrupting the overall project and workflow.

Dell Streak Teardown

iFixit has torn apart another device. This time it’s the tablet/smartphone called the Dell Streak.

The Dell Streak Teardown reveals that it’s quite easy to open up the device. iFixit mention that they were able to reverse engineer the assembly process within minutes.

Before we go on to what was found inside, iFixit also mentioned in an email to us that they were beginning a new rating system as explained below.

With this teardown, we’re starting something new: rating hardware from 1-10 based on how easy it is to service. Our repairability ranking will factor in the good, the bad, and the ugly aspects of servicing the device. A ten means the manufacturer did everything possible to enable repair, while we might award a one to a car with the hood welded shut. We are quite pleased with the Streak, awarding it an 8 out of 10.

Apple Liquid Metal Already in Use

Over the last week or so there has been some news about Apple [AAPL] buying a company out that makes Liquid metal. The metal has some unique characteristics that make it more bouncy than other metals. Rumours started going around about how a new iPhone or iPad could be made with this metal to toughen them up a little, thanks to the ability of the metal to morph a little.

We expected that in the next couple of years that this metal could be introduced somewhere in to phones although it appears that we might have already all used Liquidmetal with our iPhones and iPads and just not realised it.

The part we are talking about here is pictured above. The iPhone 3GS SIM pin is apparently made from Liquidmetal alloy. The reason this part is made of liquid metal is that it’s part of the iPhone, but not an essential part. The liquidmetal used makes the part extremely hard but at the same time very light weight. Use PayPal to Pay Google Android Apps – Coming Soon Maybe

Google [GOOG] will soon allow PayPal to be another method to pay for Android apps from the Android Market. Currently there are two options available with the first being Google Checkout and the second being carrier billing (which is slowly rolling out). Adding PayPal to that mix opens up more chances of developers to pay for apps with a more common billing system.

Although adding PayPal as a payment method wont suddenly make developers in to millionaires, good apps are needed for that, it will still open it up to people who do not want a Google Checkout account, but already have a PayPal account. [Read more…]

How to Run Android on the HTC HD2

We’ve mentioned before that the HTC HD2 is capable of running Android thanks to some work done by guys over at the XDA Developers forums.

The reasons you might want to install Android on a Windows Mobile device is that the hardware is great but the current OS is just bad. It also won’t be eligible for a Windows Phone 7 update leaving users with Windows Mobile 6.5.

If you are unsure how you can put Android 2.1 on the HTC HD2 designed for Windows Mobile 6.5, check out the details below. They must be followed step by step as doing anything like this voids warranty and has the potential to make your HD2 in to an expensive brick. [Read more…]

The Motorola DROID 2 launched just yesterday and already iFixit has it’s hands on one to teardown. The teardown was put online yesterday and shows all of the insides of the DROID 2 and what is different to the original DROID that launched last year.

The new DROID 2 has a 1GHz processor along with wireless 802.11n for connectivity. Both these enhance the user experience on the device by allowing it to run more smoothly and connect faster where wireless n technology is available to connect to.

Although there are differences between the two models, there are also a lot of similarities. Motorola seems to have opted to keep anything that wasn’t complained about and fix the things that were complained about such as the keyboard and processor that have both received upgrades. [Read more…]
