Nokia Ovi Store to get 20000 Apps

nokia-ovi-storeSeveral phone manufacturers are following Apple in creating their own app stores for their range of mobile phones. Windows Mobile, Palm and Android all have app stores. Nokia have create Ovi to follow and when open in late spring it will be the home to 20000 applications when launched. 20K applications is far greater when Android and Apple first launched their stores with just a few applications.

The store will open in time for when the Nokia N97 launches in July. Included in the app store there will be a large variety of applications which include general apps, short videos, games and more. Location based services powered by the built in GPS unit on a phone will allow you to filter down to things you need for local use. [Read more…]

Chocolate Powered Formula 3 Chocomobile

Scientists at the University of Warwick here in the UK have created a new car based on Formula 3 specs which is built from biodegradable materials. As well as being biodegradable it also is powered by chocolate.

The car could be seen as very unique in that the steering wheel, seat and car body are made from various vegatables, fibres, carrots, flax and various other bits and bobs that can waste away safely. Fuel for the engine is provided by a mixture of vegetable oil and chocolate waste. [Read more…]

Amazon Kindle DX – 9.7″ Screen

amazon-kindle-dxAmazon have just released details of a new ebook reader named the Kindle DX. The Kindle DX comes soon after the launch of the Kindle 2 just a few months ago. The DX features a larger screen measuring 9.7″ which has 16 shades of gray providing very clear and sharp images.

The Kindle DX measures just over 1/3 of an inch in thickness and has storage enough to carry 3500 books, periodicals and documents around with you at all times.

The screen on the DX is auto-rotating like found in many phones. Should you want to read a book in landscape mode you simply rotate it and the screen changes orientation. This makes it handy for viewing maps, graphs and other data more suited to a wider display.

A PDF reader can be found inside allowing you to easily view PDF documents that you download to it from your computer. With wireless 3G built in you can access books from almost anywhere and 3G provides quick access allowing books to be downloaded in under 60 seconds. [Read more…]

Asus U Series Laptops

asus-u20Asus have provided details of their latest line of laptops in the U series. The designs are similar to the MacBook Air and larger and faster then the Eee PC 1008HA. 3 versions of the U series are being launched with the first being named the U20A which has a 12 inch screen. The next is the UX30 which has a 13.3 inch screen and finally the UX50V which features a 15.6 inch screen.

Processors vary on each model with the entry level being supplied with either a 1.2GHz Celeron M. The mid range and higher models (UX30 and UX50V) have either a 1.3GHz Pentium, 1.4GHz Core 2 Solo or a 1.6GHz Core 2 Duo. [Read more…]

Palm Foleo to use WebOS

palm-foleo-webosAlmost 2 years ago we mentioned that Palm were looking at launching the Palm Foleo. The Foleo is a netbook style device which was first drawn up about 10 – 12 years ago (although only referred to as a netBook). Back in 2007 when we mentioned the foleo, it was set to be pre-installed with a linux OS, have a 10″ screen and weigh about 2.5lbs. The Foleo shortly after was dropped. It seems like Palm might be trying to relaunch the Foleo again but this time using the WebOS operating system that the Pre is using. [Read more…]

Nokia E71x on AT&T from Today

nokiae71xAT&T are now selling the Nokia E71x as mentioned back in March. The phone will go on sale today and cost $99.99 (after a rebate and with a 24 month contract).

The E71x is the thinnest smartphone available and has a built in QWERTY keyboard. It is aimed at those who enjoy messaging, web browsing and social networking while on the move.

Touchscreens have advanced a lot over the last few years. As technology has advanced they seem to be more easier to use and a lot more responsive.
