Chrome OS Gets Ported to iPad

UK based hacker, Hexxeh, has managed to port Chrome OS to the Apple iPad. The image above shows the new operating system running on the iPad. Of course it could be a fake, but from what we understand, the hacker has a good track record with Chrome OS builds which makes us inclined to think all is actually OK.

The port to iPad required that the tablet be compromised, perhaps jailbroke but not confirmed, and once installed, the only way to get iOS back on to the iPad is to do a complete restore. [Read more…]

HP PalmPad WebOS Version Landing Early 2011 – Rumour

HPs EVP Todd Bradley has commented that we could see the WebOS based HP PalmPad arrive early next year. HP also filed for the PalPad trademark earlier this year which also indicated a possible launch.

The HP PalmPad will join the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Tab and the newly announced BlackBerry PlayBook in the fight against the Apple iPad. Each runs a different OS which makes the whole thing a little more intriguing. WebOS of course, is what runs on devices such as the Palm Pre. The OS its self works well and with some tweaks, it could easily work well on a larger screened tablet device. [Read more…]

iPod nano Materials Cost Half of What First nano Cost

The current iPod nano is the sixth generation model. iSuppli decided to take a look at the individual parts to estimate how much the new iPod nano costs to build. Estimations show that it costs $43.73 to build a nano which makes it just less than half of what the first gen nano cost to build several years ago.

The screen on the nano along with the touch features account for half of the costs. Manufacturing costs just $1.37 per unit. [Read more…]

Official Google Voice app for iPhone Already Approved?

It appears that the official Google Voice app for iPhone could be launching within the next few weeks. TechCrunch managed to get information from a source close to Google [GOOG] that the app has already been approved and that it is being prepared for compatibility with iOS 4 and multitasking to allow it to run in the background.

Last year, Apple [AAPL] blocked the application, so right now it seems like a complete u-turn. It is believed that Apple making the guidelines public has allowed it in as a look through shows that the app doesn’t break any guidelines, meaning it should now be allowed in (which is has been). Future Gen iPad Design Spotted in Patent

It isn’t known just yet when Apple [AAPL] will launch a second generation iPad although April 2011 is touted due to it being the 1 year anniversary of the first iPad launch.

Some details of what the next gen iPad could look like have been uncovered in a patent application. The new patent shows an iPad with two dock ports (one on the long side and one on the short side) as well as a Smart Bezel that could be used for extra input on the tablet. The extra dock port would allow the iPad to be docked in landscape mode allowing movies to be watched while keeping it charged. [Read more…]

11.6 Inch MacBook Air in Production?

Apple [AAPL] is rumoured again to be revamping the MacBook Air. This time the rumours indicate that it will have an LED backlit display that measures 11.6 inches. The 11.6 inch screen makes it almost 2 inches smaller than the current 13.3 inch MacBook Air.

The MacBook Air its self has only received a couple of revisions in the almost three years of its existence. It is believed this is the case due to lower sales than expected and Apple kind of forgetting about it. [Read more…]

Reports are indicating that customers of Apple [AAPL] who purchased an iPad are generally happy with that purchase.

The information comes from the American Customer Satisfaction Index that shows 4% more people are happier with their computer purchases when compared to last year.

The report shows 78 on the ASCI 100-point scale which is 4 more than last year. [Read more…]

Game Center for iOS 4.1 Ported to iPhone 3G

Game Center is part of the iOS 4.1 update that landed a few weeks back. However, it only works on the newer models of iPhone and iPod touch and leaves out the iPhone 3G from that compatibility list.

If you were disappointed by this news then perhaps take a look over at Redmond Pie who managed to get Game Center working on the iPhone 3G by making a few tweaks to the settings.

To get it working, the team used the Redsn0w jailbreak and edited a file within to switch the Game Center software back on. From looking at the video (embedded below), it seems to run quite well although there is a little lag in some places. The slow response in certain areas of Game Center is probably why Apple [AAPL] dropped support for it as they are quite keen on making things run smooth on iOS devices. [Read more…]

New 10 Inch Galaxy Tab Could Arrive in 2011

Next year, Samsung could launch a 10 inch Galaxy Tab. The news comes from local General Manager Gary Twohig of Samsung in Ireland. He added the information to the bottom of a news story about places you’ll be able to pick up a Galaxy Tab in Ireland.

It isn’t clear exactly when the larger tablet will become available, if at all, and it isn’t known what operating system will run. We assume Android will be the choice with perhaps Android 3.0 Gingerbread being the option. [Read more…]

Apple [AAPL] looks to be changing the Voice Memos icon in the latest iOS 4.2 build. The current icon has a red background with a detailed microphone. The new version looks to be a little more basic with a standard blue background with a white mic on top of that.
