Motorola MILESTONE XT720 Android Smartphone Announced

Motorola [MOT] has announced the Motorola MILESTONE XT720 for those of us in the UK.

The new Motorola MILESTONE has dropped the keyboard and also now includes hi-def recording and output. With the keyboard being dropped, the new MILESTONE is now slimmer than the previous version. It measures 10.9mm now compared to the 13.7mm when the keyboard was attached.

The operating system installed is Android 2.1 although Android 2.2 will be quickly made available after launch although it is unclear what quick means with Motorola. [Read more…]

Samsung Galaxy Tab to be Joined by Two Other Tablets

The Samsung Galaxy Tab was unveiled a few days ago. When previewed, it had a 7 inch screen putting it in-between the Dell Streak and Apple iPad in terms of screen size.

We now hear that Samsung will launch two other tablet devices also which will include an 8 and 10 inch version.

It is expected that Samsung will be pricing the new tablet computers aggressively to get them in the market to tackle the popular iPad from Apple [AAPL].

The Samsung Tablets will first be launched in their home network market on SK Telecom. If popular then I am sure an international launch will follow perhaps early next year. [Read more…]

Apple iPhone 3G runs Android 2.2

We have seen a few cases where an iPhone has been seen running Android. Normally the version of Android has been older like 1.5 or 1.6, but now we see an Apple iPhone 3G running the latest Android 2.2 built (Froyo).

Most features work on the port although Wi-Fi and audio does not at the moment. Calls and SMS messages can be made as well as web browsing. There is a problem though that when they say Android 2.2 runs on the iPhone 3G, it isn’t really usable in that battery life dies quite quickly, there is problems accessing the GPU and the iPhone runs very hot will running the 2.2 OS.

The iPhone used was running iPhone OS 3.1.2. To get this running yourself, full instructions can be found over at GadgetsDNA although we always recommend reading the instructions fully and also do this carefully to prevent bricking your phone. [Read more…]

HP Printers to get Email Addresses

HP [HPQ] is expected to announce a new range of printers that will each be capable of having an email address. The idea sounds crazy until you look in to what capabilities that will give the printer.

Right now we live in an age where we carry an iPhone, iPad and other devices such as Android phones. Sometimes we want to be able to print but don’t have the necessary cables to do so. If a printer has an email address, you can simply forward the document to that email address, have the document load up on a small screen, check the formatting and hit print.

We are hearing that when the printers launch they will cost in the region of $99 to $400 depending on which model you choose. However, nothing is known yet about the printers other than they can receive emails and print out the documents. We suspect that the higher the price the larger the screen and the more abilities it will have possibly with the lower end not being able to handle attached documents for example. [Read more…]

Apple Magic Trackpad Leak

Leaked images of a new Apple Magic Trackpad were spotted today that reveal Apple [AAPL] could be working on bringing a touch/gesture based interface to the desktop. Apple over the last few years has worked a lot with touchscreen devices such as the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad and have advanced quite far with that technology. The leaked images seem to indicate that a new trackpad will be launching for desktop devices.

The Apple Magic Trackpad looks to be a bluetooth device that sits on your desk and has a similar profile to the Bluetooth keyboard in that a small cylinder on the back elevates the back end of the pad slightly. The magic trackpad would potentially allow you to more easily navigate around the screen and use gestures to swipe between windows for example.

Rumours earlier this year came about a multi-touch trackpad but shortly after seemed to be forgotten about. Also a patent for a “Magic Trackpad” was also unveiled a while back too, so perhaps today is when we will finally hear about this device. [Read more…]

AT&T 2GB Plan Could Restrict you to 10 Hours of Video Per Month

When AT&T announced new plans the other day, they mentioned that 98% of unlimited plan users never went above 2GB of data. However, this was “smartphone users” and not iPad users. We suspect that the iPad has caught them off guard and that with the increasing availability of streaming applications they are probably getting concerned about how much data is being eaten up by iPad users… hence why they probably only reported on smartphone users keeping the iPad users secret.

What seems to be the main reason for the switch is the growing demand for streaming video content over 3G on the Apple iPad. When using an iPad to check email, browse websites and sync with Exchange you hardly use any data. My own iPad 3G is 9 days old now and I activated the microSIM late Sunday night. So far I’ve used about 40MB of data while on the move to check emails, browse the web and an hour or so of streaming video on YouTube… for my daily usage I probably wont go over the 2GB limit if I had that limit (I’m in the UK with different tariffs). But for many who travel on public transport, travel a lot and work away, streaming video could potentially get used a lot more. [Read more…]

Dell Streak HDMI Dock Spotted

Yesterday, Dell launched the Dell Streak 5 inch tablet device on the O2 network in the UK.

The Dell Streak is an interesting device that has a 5 inch screen making it handy for browsing websites, viewing video while also being able to keep it in your pocket. It’s smaller than an iPad which although has a fantastic screen, it is more awkward to carry around.

Although a 5 inch screen is larger than a regular mobile phone, sometimes it might be just a bit too small which is why Dell has created the Dell Streak HDMI dock. [Read more…]

Motorola DROID Xtreme Shots Revealed

Not much is known yet about the Motorola DROID Xtreme other than a few leaked shots. The latest shots captured show the back of the DROID Xtreme.

On the back an 8 megapixel camera can be found, also HD video is included as seen in very small writing next to the lens and what looks to be a dual-flash.

We hear that it runs the Google [GOOG] OS, Android 2.1 although earlier details did not indicated it was version 2.1. We also see that it has similar styling to the Motorola DROID. [Read more…]

BlackBerry OS 6 on BlackBerry 9800 Video Walk-through

First off, an apology to those who cannot watch the video below. It is restricted to certain regions. If you can view it then there’s around 16 minutes of video walking through the new BlackBerry OS 6. The video shows the new BlackBerry 9800 running OS 6 and over at IntoMobile, there are also a bunch of fresh pictures showing the slider phone and the new OS up close.

BlackBerry [RIMM] looks to be doing a good job with OS 6 making the operating system better than previous versions. A few things to note is that there is no SurePress. A T-Mobile [DT] SIM card is running inside and some of the technical specs show that the 9800 will have 4GB of storage built in along with 512MB of RAM. Wireless 802.11n will also be included. Two Dell Adamo Laptops Fit inside a Dell Laptop

The picture might not be super clear, but what you are looking at here is a thicker Dell laptop with the insides all taken out leaving a shell and in that shell, Two Dell Adamo laptops fit snugly inside just indicating exactly how thin they are.

The video below shows a guy taking all the insides out of the chunky laptop and replacing the insides with a cloth and a band that can be used to life the smaller laptops out of the thinner laptops. [Read more…]

Apple iPad Orders made before June 7 will get $30 Unlimited Plan

AT&T [T] earlier this week decided it would be fun to scrap the $30 unlimited plan as of June 7 and start offering a 2GB plan for $25/month. For those using mobile phones is might not seem like too much of a bad deal. I use my iPhone quite a bit and have only just racked up 2GB of data in the last couple of months. However, for iPad owners where the data usage is expected to be more this is quite a blow for some.

We know that Apple [AAPL] recently changed the shipping date of the iPad to June 7 which some thought was part of a sneaky plan to stop the $30 unlimited plan being purchased, however, AT&T has now said that anybody pre-ordering an iPad before June 7 will still be allowed to use the unlimited plan even if their iPad doesn’t land until the changes to $25/2GB plans are made.
