Spotify US Release Date Moves to 2011

It looks like the Spotify US release date has been moved to 2011 now due to no licensing agreements being signed between the company and major music publishers. The release date was expected to squeeze in before the end of the year although it seems like this wont happen now.

Spotify currently runs in Europe and allows those users to either use a free version filled with ads, or pay £10/month (UK price) and listen without ads to almost any music track they want. [Read more…]

Nokia X7 Spotted and Previewed

Eldar Murtazin managed to somehow get hold of a Nokia X7. The Nokia X7 was first leaked a few weeks ago and at that point, it was revealed that it has four speakers and with it being in the XSeries of devices, it is also geared towards media.

Eldar wasn’t kind on the X7 it seems as the machine translation of some of his words converts to… “I do not like this device”. Other observations made, include the AT&T logo at the top of the device. [Read more…]

MobileMe to Get A Lot Better in 2011

Today we hear that the MobileMe service from Apple [AAPL] is expected to get a lot better in 2011. The information comes from a user who emailed Steve Jobs asking about the reliability of the service and making comments that he had experienced problems over the year or 2 of using it…

Q: I love my iPad and iPhone4 and am a huge fan of yours and all that Apple does. I desperately want to stay inside of Apple’e ecosystem as much as possible.

However, MobileMe is making it very difficult for me to do so. Unreliable/unpredictable syncing, creating duplicate entries (sometimes scores of them), etc. It’s almost unusable.

And I know from forums (including Apple’s own support boards) that I am not the only one experiencing these very real and frustrating problems.

Please tell me it will get better, and soon?

A: Yes, it will get a lot better in 2011.

Nexus S Super AMOLED to be Replaced with Super Clear LCD in Russia

The Google Nexus S from Samsung will be launching in the next couple of weeks in the US and the UK. When it arrives, it will have a Super AMOLED screen. We are hearing reports today though that indicate the Super AMOLED screen will be replaced with a Super Clear LCD screen over in Russia as well as potentially, a few countries in Europe.

The reasons for the switch are not known and at the moment, we are not sure 100% that this is for real or not. If so, it could be due to shortages as the new production line at Samsung will not be opening till 2Q 2011 for Super AMOLED screens. [Read more…]

iOS 4.2.1 Untethered Jailbreak Demonstrated

Well, it looks like the untethered iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak release date just got a little closer with Musclenerd uploading a video to youtube demonstrating an iOS 4.2.1 iPod touch 4G booting untethered and then loading up Cydia.

Up till now, the iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak has required the phone/iPod to be tethered when booting, so the progress demonstrated on here means we are a step closer to getting rid of the wires when booting up. [Read more…]

Star Trek Style Doors Powered by Air

If you want the doors from Star Trek in your home then go and check out the tutorial at Instructables.

Someone managed to create some air-powered doors that open at the push of a button and then close shortly after. The doors are split down the middle allowing each half to slide in to the wall. Inside the wall is an air vent that lets air in and out when needed. A controller is to be found next to the door that lets you push the button to open. It also contains another switch that lets you permanently keep the doors open, should you be carrying something through it. [Read more…]

webOS 2.0 Virtual Keyboard Activated

webOS 2.0 has references to a Virtual Keyboard within its code. With webOS 2.0 being available now, it now emerges that the virtual keyboard reference is more than just a reference. Instead, there’s a fully available virtual keyboard that can be “hacked” open on the Palm Pre 2.

To get it working requires that you make a change to the internals and specifically the line that says “VirtualKeyboardEnabled=true” needs to be modified to say just that. Once done, you get a keyboard on-screen. [Read more…]

Windows Phone 7 Copy and Paste Captured on Video

Copy and Paste for Windows Phone 7 is believed to be just around the corner, perhaps sometime in January when WP7 devices get an update.

Someone has posted a video of a Samsung Windows Phone 7 device running copy and paste functions. The system works by tapping on the screen. A word is then highlighted (you can copy more by moving the sliders around). You then tap an icon to copy and when in a location on the phone where you can paste, you’ll see a small paste icon just above the virtual QWERTY keyboard. Tap it and your copied content is pasted in. Simple stuff really! [Read more…]
