Apple File Intrusive Ads Patent

bill-ipod-clickthroughReports of a new approved patent that Apple [AAPL] filed have been found recently. The patent discusses ads which require users to interact with a device by perhaps acknowledging they have read the ad, or performing some action. NYT seems to think it will take us back 10 years by forcing ads upon a user, but on the other hand, Fake Steve Jobs indicates we could look at it a different way in that users pay a small nominal fee for watching TV for example… ad free.

Rather than quoting various articles from FSJ and NYT, it would be worth you take a read and make up your own opinions on this. [Read more…]

Microsoft Windows 7 Vulnerability Spotted

Windows-7Microsoft have confirmed that a vulnerability now exists in Windows 7 that was officially launched just last month. The fix is quite easy in that you just need to block a couple of ports on your firewall to prevent an exploit of the Server Message Block (SMB). As well as causing problems for Windows 7 users, those who use Windows 2008 R2 also have this problem.

The bug is part of a Microsoft built network file and printer sharing protocol and allows hackers to cause Windows to crash when exploited through a denial of service attack. [Read more…]

Eye-Fi Cards now Support FTP

eye-fi-wi-fi-sd-cardEye-Fi cards are unique as they can wirelessly connect your digital camera up to a wireless network for instant transfer of pictures. Pictures are generally sent to photo sharing sites such as Flickr. It seems that Eye-Fi cards now have the option of FTP file transfer allowing you to bypass any restrictions that Flickr and other companies have.

All you need to get this going is an FTP server (you can configure your home computer to be one), or use a webserver if you run a website, and an Eye-Fi card that supports Online Sharing (there are several versions of Eye-Fi cards available, so you might not have the correct type for this). Sony XBR11, XBR12 and OLED Screens Leaked

sony-xbr11A leak shows that Sony are to launch a new range of TV’s that will probably go on display at CES in 2010 in just a few weeks time. Amongst the new TV’s is a new OLED screen that is a new model from the XEL-1 that was a 3mm thick, 11 inch OLED screen launched last year. As of now it is unknown what size of screen the new OLED TV will be. I’d expect it to be a larger screen to perhaps compete with the new 15 inch LG OLED screen.

Also a new HDTV called the Sony KDL-XBR12 series has been mentioned that uses “high range advanced LED RGB” backlighting to function allowing for blacker blacks due to being able to dim certain parts of the screen individually. [Read more…]

Orange iPhone – 30,000 Units Sold on Launch Day

orange-iphoneYesterday saw the launch of the Apple [AAPL] iPhone on to the Orange network in the UK. The launch came as the O2 exclusive contract came to an end. Reports show that launch day went well with Orange shifting over 30,000 units on the first day.

The amount of phones sold sets a record for the Orange network and as O2 have been the only company allowed to sell the iPhone it must make Orange happy that they can now get in on the iPhone.

In the next few months we will see the Vodafone network starting to offer the iPhone in the UK which will also increase competition on the device. Orange was partly criticised recently for being too tight with their unlimited (limited) download of 750MB/month although with iPhone sales hitting a record for Orange it seems that either people do not know about the 750MB limit, or that they are not too fussed.
