Google Nexus Tablet Could be Built by LG

Information provided by Mobile Review hints that Google is looking to make a Google Nexus Tablet device. The company who has been given the task of creating the Google branded tablet is LG.

If LG go ahead and make it, the tablet will follow on from a couple of smartphones with the first being built by HTC (Nexus One) and the second being a Samsung device called the Nexus S.

Right now, it isn’t clear if Google will use the Nexus Tablet externally and make it available, or if it might be for internal development only. [Read more…]

iOS 5 Could Bring More Graphics Driven UI Elements

We just mentioned that WWDC2011 will be happening in June. What we now hear is that iOS 5 could well be revealed at the conference although it might actually be not pushed out till September this year.

Some recent patents hint that Apple is working on making elements of the UI more graphical. What this means is that contacts could change from the plan scrolling text list to thumbnails of the people you want to call. The same could be said for music lists and other lists within the UI. BlackBerry PlayBook to Support Android Apps

When RIM launch the BlackBerry PlayBook, it will be capable of running Android apps. This information comes from a press release sent out yesterday by RIM.

“The BlackBerry PlayBook is an amazing tablet. The power that we have embedded creates one of the most compelling app experiences available in a mobile computing device today,” said Mike Lazaridis, President and Co-CEO at Research In Motion. “The upcoming addition of BlackBerry Java and Android apps for the BlackBerry PlayBook on BlackBerry App World will provide our users with an even greater choice of apps and will also showcase the versatility of the platform.”

iPad 2 Screen is Thinner but Breaks Less

When the first iPad 2 was taken apart, it was quickly noted that the glass was quite a bit thinner, 27% thinner to be precise. This led to some speculation that the iPad 2 would suffer with more screen breakages.

It seems though, after a bit of testing, that the screen could be just fine thanks to it being thin and a little more bendy than the original iPad 1 screen. The video below gives a demonstration of an iPad and iPad 2 screen being bent, beaten and generally used in a way not recommended by Apple. The second gen screen was just as tough as the original iPad screen in terms of breakages. [Read more…]

Samsung Galaxy S II Prototype Spotted

Thanks to gagadget, a prototype of the Galaxy S II has been pictured as well as captured on video (see embed below).

The device is believed to be a pre-production model which is close to the final version when it arrives. The two videos show the hardware and software running on the device, and from what we see and hear, it scores very well in the mini review. [Read more…]

Microsoft Pushes Out First Windows Phone 7 Update

Microsoft has begun to distribute its first Windows Phone 7 update. It’s actually the second update technically, although the first was pushed out to prepare the device to get further updates.

The new update brings several new features to smartphones which includes copy and paste, faster start and resume time for apps, improved category search in the Marketplace as well as various other performance increases.

The update is numbered 7300 and began rolling out yesterday to WP7 smartphone users. [Read more…]

Amazon Appstore Launches

Amazon has launched its Appstore today and with that launch, it’s giving away a free download of the new Angry Birds Rio game. At the moment, Amazon has launched the app store in the US only and it isn’t known just yet when it will hit the UK and other countries.

Amazon App Store Could Go Live March 22

We hear today that Amazon could be launching the Android App Store as early as tomorrow. Last week, we saw a brief glimpse of what it might look like, which we assumed was in preparation for an upcoming launch.

The Amazon App store was first mentioned in September last year and was described as being Amazon’s take on the app store. What that means is that apps will be curated by Amazon reviewers, and if apps pass the test, they are allowed in the store.

iPad 2 3G Mic Seems to Have Issues

After a bit of testing, it appears that the 3G enabled iPad 2 microphone might have a few issues.

In particular, the problem reveals that sound echos a bit as well as sounds a bit muffled when using the 3G model. The reason is believed to be because of the change in location of the microphone. On the original iPad, the microphone was on the top left of the device about 8 – 10mm from the 3.5mm headphone jack. On the new iPad, Apple moved it to the middle top of the device and on the 3G version, it is embedded right on the black bar where the antenna is found. [Read more…]

55 Inch Glasses-Free TV 3D LCD TV Goes On Show

Samsung has created a 55 inch 3D TV that requires no glasses to see the effect. The screen is LCD and uses CFL backlighting although LED can be used. Samsung say it’s quite easy to switch between the two at the build stage.

The display uses a couple of LCD screens to make the 3D effect and has 9 viewpoints that are capable of seeing the effect. The optimal viewing distance is 2.5 to 6 meters from what reports are saying. The screens work together in that one is behind the other. The latter of the screens acts as a lens and creates the necessary optical refraction to make 2D to 3D transitions. [Read more…]

AT&T Could Be Clamping Down on Jailbreak Tethering

Users are reporting that AT&T are contacting them in regards to tethering plans. The text message, and in some cases an email, seems to be targeting those that have jailbroken their iPhone and basically says:

Did you know tethering your Smartphone to a computer requires a tethering plan?

From what can be figured out, it seems to have been sent to users who use the MyWi to get free tethering rather than using an official “tethering plan” that AT&T charges for. It also seems to be going to those users who fit the above, and have the old unlimited data plans. [Read more…]

Dell Streak 7 WiFi Ready for Pre-Orders

The Dell Streak 7 WiFi Only version is now available for pre-order over at Amazon. Currently, they have it listed at $379.99 although no specific release date has been provided. Due to Amazon already listing it, they could be preparing for a launch within the next 4 – 6 weeks.

The new 7 inch tablet is an Android 2.2 Froyo tablet that has a 7 inch screen that has capacitive touch, and is also multi-touch. Due to it running Android 2.2, it is also capable of running Adobe Flash 10.1. [Read more…]
