iPhone Hacks – What do you want to see

iPhone

iPhone is coming today! What iPhone Hacks do you want to see?

After several months of waiting, the iPhone will be launching at 6pm tonight in the US. Wired put out the question today about iPhone hacks and what people want to see should they want more from their expensive iPhone. Suggestions such as Skype, MP3 ring tones, Instant Messaging, iPod and Internet without a phone plan and quite a few more have been mentioned. No doubt we will see an ongoing battle between the hackers and Apple like we do with the PSP and homebrew. Hopefully some decent apps can come out for the iPhone to make it in to an even more useful device. The collection of all programmers and Apple could make the good even better.

iPhone to get Glass Display Surface

iphone
The iPhone made by Apple, has received an upgrade already before launch. Apple have ditched the plastic display surface in favour of glass. This is great as it will mean less scratches although unfortunately that does not mean no scratches. It will add to the final weight of the phone, but I am all for a nice glass covered screen rather then having to stick a screen protector on the plastic one. As well as the nice glass screen, the iPhone is to get a better then expected battery which claims a life of 8 hours talk time, 6 hours internet use, 7 hours video playback and a hefty 24 hours of audio playback. That is quite a nice and very acceptable amount of hours for each of the uses.

iPhone Release Date

Yesterday, adverts started appearing in the US showing the release date of the iPhone which is set to be the 29th June 2007. There are 3 more adverts after the jump. Will you be getting an iPhone or is it too expensive for you? When it comes out in the UK some time I do hope that it will be cheaper, but I am not counting on it yet.

Pay As You Go iPhone

iPhone
The iPhone will be launching soon as you are all probably be aware. It will be available on a 2 year contract and still cost a huge 500 – 600 dollars depending on which model you go for. There are now rumours circulating saying that a Pay as You Go version will be made available. I dread to think what that might cost, but it will mean that the phone is not under contract with a provider which allows for more freedom. Now if someone could unlock one of these things that would be impressive.

iPhone Approved by the FCC

iPhone
The iPhone has been approved by the FCC meaning it should hit the shelves late next month. The documents which were signed have confirmed a few things too which is cool. The phone will have Bluetooth, Wifi and work on 1900MHz and 850Mhz GSM bands as well as 2 more bands making it in to a quad band phone. Unfortunately it is not 3G though which is a shame. The phone will only ship in the US at first although it would work elsewhere but be an expensive option.

Apple iPhone Release Date

Apple iPhone
We finally have found out the release date for the Apple iPhone in the US. It is set to arrive in the US on June 11th and will be priced at $599 with a 2 year service agreement with Cingular/AT&T. Thats a huge contract to take out on a phone and hopefully the service agreement has some good breakdown cover on it. The model at $599 will be the 8GB version.

The iPhone is estimated to cost $280.83 for the 8GB model. For a full comparison of costs take a look at the link below.

iPhone Accessories

iPhone Accessories
The iPhone is due to be released in June 2007 over in the US. A number of accessories are already being devised such as a screen protector for that huge screen which will no doubt scratch easy. Other accessories to be launched is a bluetooth headset, pictured above and will be compatible with other bluetooth models of phone.

I have mixed impressions of the iPhone and wonder if the high price will still allow it to sell. Most of the phones I have used only last between 12 and 18 months before they start acting up. It will be interesting to see if the iPhone will last longer then 18 months under daily usage.

iPhone Clone

Meizu M8
With the iPhone just around the corner we are starting to see a few “almost clones” of this fantastic looking device. The Meizu M8 is no exception to this. It has a 3.3 inch touchscreen display, an ARM11 CPU and a 3 megapixel camera. Bluetooth is also provided for connectivity to other devices. Network wise this phone has some good stuff packed in there. The phone has a GSM and TD-SCDMA 3G radio built in.

iPhone – 1985 Style

iPhone 1985
If Apple would have launched their Apple Mobile Phone back in 1985 when they originally filed a patent then it would have looked like the phone above. I bet it would havo sold well but would not be laughed at 🙂

iPhone with Free Service

iPhone
The iPhone is due to cost between 500 – 600 dollars for the handset with a contract. However, it might be that the contract could be for free service for 18 months. Cingular/ATT are thinking this one over at the moment. The normal path of selling a phone on contract is to give it away for free with the contract, or charge a low amount for the phone. Apple do not want to go down this route but Cingular/ATT might find an alternative way. This is all just speculation right now but we can hope 🙂

iPhone Review – The other iPhone

iPhone
The other iPhone from Linksys was recently reviewed by the tech lounge. This iPhone is the CIT300 dual mode Skype phone and the review shows that the iPhone is an excellent device. The CIT300 costs around 80 – 90 dollars shipped and can use both SkypeIn and SkypeOut which allows you to call out of the skype network and also receive incomming calls from outside the skype network. The CIT300 phone seems to do what it should according to the review and has all the features that are expected in a VoIP phone. The only problem with the CIT300 is that it does require your PC to be on while using the service. However, if you choose to go for the CIT400 then this can be used over wifi and is totally indipendent.

Apple iPhone – Video

The Apple iPhone was unveiled at CES earlier this week and Engadget managed to get a video of the phone. As can be seen in the video below the iPhone looks very sleek and supports some great specs.
