How the iPhone Touch Screen works

iPhone_Touch_ScreenThe iPhone screen transformed the way we interact with our mobile phones. The multi touch interface and very quick screen response made the iPhone a very usable device. HowStuffWorks have created an interesting article which breaks down the iPhone multi touch screen and shows in detail how it all works.

When touching an iPhone screen it can sense exactly where and what needs to be done. Due to the screen being multi touch it also allows for even more interactivity such as zooming in to photos by placing a thumb and finger on to the screen.

Some touch screens use light, and when an object it placed in the way it detects where the object was placed. Another version of this uses a capacitive touch screen which detects where contact is made by the way of an electrical charge which changes and sends the signal back to the CPU. However, the iPhone is different as it can detect 2 fingers on the screen at the same time. I recommend reading the full article over at HSW as it goes in to very good detail on how the whole screen and touch system works and makes a very interesting read.

iPhone SIM Unlock Card

brando-sim-unlock-iphone
This SIM card according to Brando, can unlock an iPhone with a firmware no greater then 1.1.2. I am not sure if I believe it like a number of others, but I guess it could be possible. Anyone with a 1.1.2 or less firmware want to fork out $30 and test it?

By making use of the iPhone and iPod Touch cool multi-touch screen’s that they have, Google Code project has managed to make an interesting mod which allows you to use that screen to play a guitar. With the iPod having music capabilities it can also be used to jam away to your favourite songs too. According to Google Code it is easy to install, so it should have all you guitar fans playing away, right away.

iPhone Zoom Lens

conice-iphone-camera-zoom-attachment
The iPhone since coming out has been a great looking phone. However, like most mobile phones, the camera isn’t too good. This new attachment from Conice can take the standard 2 mega pixel camera and add 6x optical zoom on to it. This will allow for some better close up shots from greater distances.

The lens attaches on to an acrylic case which then fastens on to the iPhone. The lens is 2.87 inches long and weighs almost as much as the phone. The next bit of good news is that it costs $14.77.

iPhone Remote Control for the Home

iPhone Remote Control
Mainlobby is a cool device which allows you to control various items around your home. Controllable things include lighting, heating, TV and other video equipment, audio and anything else that you could probably think of. The Mainlobby system is a touch screen which sits on your wall and interfaces with all your equipment.

Now there appears to be a cool web interface which will allow your iPhone or Touch to integrate with Mainlobby and use the iPhone/Touch as a remote control. It works by using Mainlobby’s built in web server and Safari’s AJAX support.

With the iPhone and Touch having great touch screens I can see this particular item doing well for controlling your home from wherever you are.

iPhone 3D Model

iPhone 3D Model
If you cannot afford to fork out several hundred dollars for an iPhone and put it on contract then you could go for a 3D wireframe model. I know it doesnt have the same effect but still looks the same….. on screen. The iPhone is available for download in a lowpoly format in 3D Studio MAX format at Exchange3D.

O2 to Sell iPhone in the UK

iPhone
It was announced that the iPhone is coming to the UK and O2 will be given exclusive rights to sell it. The price of the iPhone will be 269 pounds including VAT which I must say is not bad at all. As well as paying out for the iPhone you will need to sign up for an 18 month contract with O2 which again, is not too bad. When signing up you will get free use of 7500 wi-fi hotspots across the UK and also unlimited mobile data usage. Tariffs will be 35 – 55 pounds a month for the 18 month contract. Maybe they will also have a 12 month contract for more.

I have to admit that I am fairly impressed that they made it an affordable price. I was half expecting to see it go up to the 400 – 500 pound mark for just the phone. It will still be nice to see it even cheaper as the UK is quite competitive in the mobile phone market.

iPhone Clone is here

iPhone Clone
What you are looking at above is a clone of the iPhone. It has a 2.8 inch touch screen, Media Player, MP4 and MP3 player, recorder and movie player. It kind of looks ok, although it is quite clearly a copy, including icons of an actual iPhone. Check out the full details over at Lelong.

Super Mario Bros on the iPhone

An NES emulator has been created for the iPhone although, as can be seen from the video it doesnt look too playable. Hopefully those little bugs can be ironed out to bring it to the speed we all want. As well as being able to load up the emulator, of course there are a lot of games such as Super Mario Bros, Metroid and Zelda. The controls are used on the touch screen which also emulates the NES controller.

I do like the look of this, and if they can get it to run a bit faster and iron out some quirks all should look great.

iPhone Bluetooth Headset

Apple iPhone Bluetooth Headset Unboxed

As can be seen in the picture above, the iPhone Bluetooth Headset has been unboxed. It also looks quite cool too. On the iPhones screen you will see the charging level of both the iPhone and the bluetooth headset which is quite a handy feature. Also there is a charging cable for when traveling which uses a MagSafe connector. Apple are starting to stock the headsets around the US in their stores and they are selling for $129 with the charging base. Thats about 4 times what I would expect to pay for a bluetooth headset.

iPhone – Will it Blend

It had to be done by those crazy folk at BlendTec. The next object to be blended is an iPhone which as you see on the video, it certainly does blend.

Scratch this iPhone – A Virtual iPhone

iPhone Scratched

Practice your scratching skills on a pretent iPhone

If you havent been in the queue on the east coast and picked up an iPhone 13 minutes ago then you can have a go of this virtual iPhone. This pretend phone doesnt actually allow you to play with any features though. Instead it allows you to mess up the screen, scratch and put fingerprints all over it. Its just for fun. 😉

The actual iPhone does have a glass screen which is supposedly better for keeping clean and scratch free.
