Sega Genesis on your iPhone

Sega have launched an official Genesis/Megadrive emulator for the Apple [AAPL] iPhone. From what Giz report the emulator looks to be a fully fledged console on the iPhone allowing you to play downloadable ROMS of classic games.

Several new games have been released including Sonic the Hedgehog costing $5.99, Golden Axe at $4.99, Ecco the Dolphin at $2.99 and Shining Force at $2.99. Each of these will be available soon as standalone ROMS which can be downloaded from within the app saving the need to download a full game packaged with the emulator each time. [Read more…]

iPhone to use Bing as Default Search Engine

A few places around the net today are reporting that Apple [AAPL] will be dropping Google as their default search engine on the iPhone and replacing it with Bing.com. We could see this change happen very soon too due to a rumoured release of the iPhone 4.0 OS next week. Talks of this move by Apple have been going on for weeks according to BusinessWeek.

“Apple and Google know the other is their primary enemy,” says one of the people, who’s familiar with Apple’s thinking. “Microsoft is now a pawn in that battle.”
If the negotiations are successful, it could also mean that Bing could eventually replace Google as the default search engine for Apple’s desktop version of Safari as well.

iPhone iSketch Application Launched

iSketch is a new iPhone app that was developed by an 11 year old called Cameron. The iSketch application was written so that a portion of it’s earnings could be sent to the Mattel Childrens Hospital UCLA in Westwood and Santa Monica.

There are a few things interesting here though, the first is that an 11 year old managed to create what looks to be a great little app, and secondly that it was approved. Both are challenges in themselves. [Read more…]

iPhone 4G Visual Roundup

A number of rumours about the next gen iPhone have been floating around over the last few months. Similar to the Apple iSlate roundup picture we posted last week, the iPhone 4G rumours roundup covers all rumours and their potential of actually happening measured in percent.

The image shows the back and front of the phone. On the back the rumours include a glowing Apple logo which is marked as low as possible at just 1% chance of happening. Other features on the back include an LED flash, 5 megapixel camera, touch sensitive case, full metal unibody case and a removable battery. [Read more…]

Rumour: iPhone 4th Gen to have Touch Sensitive Case

Another day another rumour for the Apple [AAPL] iPhone 4th Gen… this time rumours are saying that the phone could perhaps have a touch sensitive case that allows it to function like the Magic Mouse.

I assume that’s the back casing of the phone covered in sensors as well as the side allowing gestures to say change the volume by sliding fingers down the edge of the screen or side of the phone and maybe a quick way to scroll through contacts by flicking the back of the device. [Read more…]

Apple iSlate to be an iPhone on Steroids

Another Apple [AAPL] rumour hit late last night, this time from quite a credible source who hasn’t let BGR down in the past. The rumour is in relation to the Apple iSlate again. This time the source claims that the tablet is to basically be an iPhone on steroids and includes multi-touch gestures that were described as being “out of control”.

As well as hearing about the beefed up iPhone side of things the device is to be powered by an ARM CPU that runs incredibly fast. The kernel from the iPhone is used on the iSlate and it has a model number of K48AP (an internal name). [Read more…]

Apple iPhone Steadicam Mount

The Tiffen Company have launched a new Steadicam device called the Steadicam Smoothee that is designed to work with the iPhone 3G S. The Smoothee is a miniature version of the full sized steadicam mounts used in movies to prevent handheld cameras from moving around too fast while filming.

By mounting the iPhone 3G S in to the Smoothee the camera shake is gone allowing for smoother video to be made.

‘We’re extremely proud to be introducing this incredible new Steadicam at CES, that let’s anyone take great videos with their iPhone 3Gs the very first time. Whether they’re novices or aspiring videographers, the Steadicam Smoothee allows iPhone 3Gs owners have a richer experience and more fun with their iPhone, said Steve Tiffen, president and CEO of the company.

Rumor: Apple iPhone 4G Coming April with OLED Screen, Dual Core CPU

Well, the rumours just keep on coming now for the next gen iPhone that is more than likely to be announced June. However, we thought we’d mention this one as reports/rumours are now saying the Apple [AAPL] phone is due out in April this year along with having a nice OLED screen, a dual-core CPU and the ability to do video calls.

As well as having a dual-core CPU inside the device is also to gain an improved graphics chip. Speculation is saying that an ARM Cortex A9 CPU could be what gives the 4G iPhone the speed boost. [Read more…]

Lego Steering Wheel for iPhone Driving Games

This steering wheel has to be the most unique idea I have ever seen for an iPhone. It is built of Lego and is capable of rotating left or right an iPhone sat in a Lego dock.

The whole system is built from Lego Technic including the small stand it sits on. No instructions have been provided so you’ll have to watch the video closely to see what is needed to build it yourself. See the video after the jump. [Read more…]

Rumour: Apple iPhone 4G Coming in May

More rumours have been started saying that Apple are looking to launch the next gen iPhone (4th gen model) in May rather than waiting for an official announcement in June like usual. The reason for this is that they are looking to counter Google who are looking at releasing a new Google Phone (perhaps a Nexus Two) around that time.

In my opinion this rumour needs to be taken with a bucket load of salt although it would be interesting to see if they did move because of a competitor. [Read more…]

Packager for iPhone converts Flash Apps to iPhone Apps

The iPhone doesn’t yet support Adobe Flash which is a bit of a frustration for those wanting to browse sites like Youtube as well as online gaming sites to name just a couple of the flash based sites out there. The battle has been going on for a while with Adobe trying to get Apple [AAPL] to allow flash to work, but as of yet it hasn’t happened for various reasons which we wont go in to here (see TechCrunch for more details on that).

However, Adobe have introduced what it calls Packager for iPhone that aims to tackle the problem from a different angle. The software now allows flash developers to easily convert flash apps in to iPhone apps that function the same and can be sent in to Apple for approval to be sold in the app store. The software is still in an early beta test phase and is part of the Create Suite 5 developer tools pack. [Read more…]

CoPilot Live 8 for Netbooks/Laptops/Android and iPhone on Show

ALK Technologies were demonstrating their latest version of CoPilot Live 8 at CES running on the iPhone, Google Nexus One and a Dell Inspiron 1110 Netbook. Version 8 of the software has been available for several months now, but on display they were showing what they are capable of including what systems they support.

CoPilot Live 8 stores map data on the memory card of your phone meaning that you do not need to rely on a data connection for it to function. This makes navigation a little more reliable for times when the phone lacks signal. At this point other “on-line” navigation programs can fail you. [Read more…]
