Apple iPhone FLPR Universal Remote Control

Just a few days ago we mentioned the iPhone RedEye universal remote control that used a device plugged in to the 3.5mm headphone jack of your iPhone to transmit signals to your TV, DVR and whatever else is remote controlled in your house.

Another company have come up with the FLPR universal remote control for the iPhone that uses the doc connector on the bottom of the phone to transmit IR signals to receiving devices. By adding the attachment to the bottom side of the phone it requires you flip the phone 180 degrees and use the upside down software.

FPLR lets multiple devices be controlled from the iPhone. Set up is easy in that you just connect the IR transmitter to the bottom of the iPhone, download the FLPR application from the App Store and then go through the menu’s searching for the devices you have in the database of 14,000 pre-programmed already in there. Apple iPhone 4G Concept Renderings

Another concept drawing of the Apple iPhone 4G (forth generation) has been created by a forum user called Seraphan that shows what he wants the iPhone 4G to look like.

Features in the concept include forward and rear facing cameras with the forward facing camera being used for video calls. A microSD card slot is also to be found on the concept allowing for the phone to be expanded. Also the colour schemes of the iPhone have also been changed from just black or white. [Read more…]

Apple Sues HTC over 20 infringed Patents Related to iPhone UI

Apple [AAPL] has sued HTC for infringing on 20 different iPhone UI patents. Various patents infringed (according to Apple) include unlock gestures and other similar functions.

From what we understand, Apple is wanting a permanent injunction to prevent HTC selling phones that use these patents. More patents include the following…

The ˜331 Patent, entitled “Time-Based, Non-Constant Translation Of User Interface Objects Between States,” was duly and legally issued on April 22, 2008 by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

The ˜949 Patent, entitled “Touch Screen Device, Method, And Graphical User Interface For Determining Commands By Applying Heuristics,” was duly and legally issued on January 20, 2009 by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. A copy of the ˜949 Patent is attached hereto as Exhibit B.

The ˜849 Patent, entitled “Unlocking A Device By Performing Gestures On An Unlock Image,” was duly and legally issued on February 2, 2010 by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. A copy of the ˜849 Patent is attached hereto as Exhibit C.

Apple iPhone gets RedEye mini – Turns iPhone in to Universal Remote Control

ThinkFlood have created a new product called the ThinkFlood RedEye mini that converts your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad (when available) in to a universal remote control and TV guide.

The RedEye mini costs $49 and connects up to the 3.5mm headphone jack of your iPod allowing you to control a variety of systems such as a TV, DVR, Stereo, Digi-Box etc… and lets you control them all from the single remote control software created as an application.

To get the system working it requires that you either enter a unique code for the device you own, or put the iPhone RedEye mini in to training mode which can detect signals from other remote controls. Once achieved you attach the IR transmitter, load up the app and use a variety of methods to control your TV and other devices. Gestures can be used such as sliding a couple of fingers down the screen to lower the volume or flicking the iPhone to jump up a channel. [Read more…]

Apple iPhone 4G to get Front Facing Camera – Rumour

We hear a number of rumours about new Apple [AAPL] products when a new launch is expected. The last rumour indicated that the next gen iPhone would get a Super AMOLED screen that is created by Samsung.

The next rumour was started due to a patent that was spotted that is entitled “Apparatus and Method for Compensating for Variations in Digital Cameras” where a drawing of an iPod was shown which appears to have a camera in the bezel that is forward facing. Thinklabs Electronic Stethoscope iPhone App

Thinklabs Medical have created a new iPhone app that integrates with the electrostatic ds32a stethoscope to provide detailed visual readings of sounds heard by the stethoscope.

By attaching the ds32a to your iPhone you get to use basic editing and see a number of visualisation options that can be emailed or sent by MMS to other users to monitor what is happening.

As well as being able to record sounds from the stethoscope, a pre-recorded library is also available that can be used to teach students as well as being used for comparisons of live sounds. [Read more…]

Street Figher 4 for iPhone Coming in March for $10

Street Fighter 4 will arrive on the Apple iPhone next month with a price tag of $10. The downside is that although it’s the 2009 game that you are getting, you’ll only be able to fight with 8 characters.

The eight characters included in this version of the iPhone game are Ryu, Ken, Guile, Blanka, Chun-Li, Dhalsim, M. Bison and Abel. From what we see in the game play footage, the graphics look amazing, as does the sound. I’m not sure how good an on-screen controller will be but I am sure we’ll find out more as reviews of the SF4 game for iPhone start appearing. [Read more…]

Apple’s [AAPL] iPhone OS might be moving on to other platforms other than the iPhone and iPad that we currently know about. This rumour has started due to a job listing that was found which said….

The Core Platform team within Apple’s Core OS organization is looking for a talented and inspired manager to lead a team focused on bring-up of iPhone OS on new platforms. The team is responsible for low level platform architecture, firmware, core drivers and bring-up of new hardware platforms. The team consists of talented engineers with experience in hardware, firmware, IOKit drivers, security and platform architecture.

Meebo iPhone Instant Messaging App – Free

Meebo have launched a new iPhone application that allows those who use IM to communicate with a number of IM services all in one place. The new application runs in competition against two other applications for the iPhone called Beejive and IM+ that cost $6.99 and $4.99 respectively. However, the Meebo application has two benefits with the first being that it’s free, and the second in that it also runs quicker than the paid competition apps.

The application has broad compatibility, keeps chat logs and utilises push notifications. One thing to note here is that the speed claims are based on early reviews, so it’s unclear what the application will run like on a range of iPhones in different signal strength areas etc… [Read more…]

3D Performance tested – iPhone 3G S vs Nexus One

Distinctive Developments have build a 3D animation that displays a few charachters (animated) in a 3D room with the camera moving around the scene to test the iPhone 3G S graphics performance VS that of the Nexus One.

Both the GPU and CPU on each device is tested. The GPU gets it’s stress test from the number of polygons present in the scene while the CPU handles the bone and skinning in the animation. The iPhone 3G S looks to be the superior model here reaching speeds of up to 61 frames per second vs the Nexus One that achieves 30 – 35 frames per second. [Read more…]

Retro 80s iPhone Mix Tape Case

We’ve seen a fair share of unique accessories for the Apple [AAPL] iPhone. This time the unique accessory is a case designed to look like a mix tape that a number of you will have made in the 80’s and 90’s.

The case has an image of an old FE 90 tape bonded to it to create a vinyl like exterior to protect the iPhone held inside. Inside the case is a soft scratch free grey felt to protect the screen and casing of the iPhone as well as providing a bit of padding. The case is hand cut and machine stitched. Although not washable by machine, the build of it certainly allows handwashing it in warm water to keep it clean. [Read more…]
