iPhone 4 UK Price – How much will it be?

We have all the official details on the next generation Apple [AAPL] iPhone 4, but many are left wondering what the iPhone 4 UK price will be. We know the US pricing already, in that it’s $199 for a 16GB model for new contracts and those eligible for an upgrade, and $299 for the 32GB model. Prices are higher for those upgrading early, or for those purchasing a no commitment device AKA PAYG in the UK.

Over here in the UK, we have four networks who have all announced that they will be selling the iPhone 4. These include O2, Orange, Vodafone and T-Mobile. What we hope to see is some competitive pricing where we will see the iPhone 4 going for free on the higher end contracts and getting progressively more expensive as you spend less per month, or commit to a shorter contract length. iPhone 4 Retina Display

One of the big features of the Apple iPhone 4 is the new display that Apple [AAPL] calls the “Retina Display”. Since the screen plays a huge part in how you interact with the iPhone 4, it makes sense that Apple has opted for the highest resolution screen made to date on a smartphone.

The iPhone 4 screen manages to quadruple the number of pixels when compared to the iPhone 3GS and successfully packs in 960 x 640. Having 640 pixels across the 3.5 inch diagonal screen allows for the ppi (pixels per inch) to reach 326. Apple say that the human eye can only distinguish around 300 ppi which is why they give it the name of the Retina Display.

What the retina display does is allows graphics and text to look smooth at any size with no visible pixelation. It’s quite difficult to demonstrate the difference without actually holding an iPhone 4 in your hand along side an iPhone 3GS or other smart phone, but the picture above (larger below and even larger if you click on it) I think gives you a good idea of what is in store on the new iPhone 4. iWork for iPhone 4 Accidentally confirmed

Apple [AAPL] appears to have accidentally confirmed the existence of iWork for the iPhone 4, or perhaps iOS 4 which would also bring it to the iPhone 3G and 3GS.

The image seen above shows iWork running on the iPhone 4 particularly when it mentions to open in Keynote. The image was captured a few hours ago but has since been removed from the Apple [AAPL] site indicating that the company are not quite ready to launch the application, or worst case, that it was just a mock up image to see what it could look like. We are inclined to believe the former rather than the latter and expect to see details soon from Apple. [Read more…]

Apple iPhone 4 UK Launch on T-Mobile

T-Mobile today became the forth carrier to announce it will be offering the Apple iPhone 4 in the UK in the next couple of weeks.

As with the other three carriers, no pricing has been made available yet although we expect that T-Mobile, Orange, O2 and Vodafone will all announce prices either on or before June 15 when pre-orders open up for the new device.

For those unaware, Apple [AAPL] announced the iPhone 4 yesterday morning at WWDC along with a launch date of June 24 across five countries. Only US pricing is currently available which indicates on AT&T that a 16GB iPhone 4 will cost $199 with a 2 year contract or $299 for the 32GB iPhone 4 model. [Read more…]

Apple iPhone 4 Antenna Could fix Dropped Call Problems

If you watched the D8 interview last week with Steve Jobs, you might have noticed a question about dropped calls and call availability. Steve said something along the lines of reception “should be getting a lot better soon” on the AT&T network. We first thought that this was all related to AT&T making changes to their network and upgrading it across the US, but after watching the WWDC keynote yesterday, we noticed a lot of information was given about the new antennas included on the iPhone 4. It appears that both Apple [AAPL] and AT&T are working on fixing the issues.

You might have noticed that there are 3 gaps in the stainless steel band that wraps around the edges of the iPhone. These are not a design flaw, but rather a feature of the phone that separates the stainless steel band in to three sections that makes the whole structure of the phone act as antenna. The left side section of band handles the GPS, Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity while the right side band and lower band (that also stretches over the top of the device) handles UMTS and GSM connectivity. Having the whole structure of the phone act as an antenna should hopefully give a stronger signal and hence, fewer dropped calls or fewer “searching” messages that often show up in the status bar. iPhone 4 UK Coming to Vodafone, Orange and O2

The iPhone 4 UK launch is scheduled for June 24 here in the UK. Three networks so far have confirmed that they will be selling the iPhone 4 on launch day. These networks include Orange, O2 and Vodafone. Carphonewarehouse will also be offering the iPhone 4 although they sell for other networks rather than owning their own network.

Unfortunately pricing for the UK iPhone 4 has not been revealed yet although Geeky Gadgets has made a few estimates based on pricing + tax when compared to the subsidised versions over at AT&T. Estimations indicate that we could be getting the iPhone 4 in the UK for £169 for the 16GB version and £249 for the 32GB version although with the vast array of tariffs we have in the UK, we probably will see a free model on the higher end price range with prices varying in between for the amount you are willing to commit each month. FaceTime allows iPhone 4 Video Calls over WiFi

One of the big features announced today on the Apple iPhone 4 was FaceTime. FaceTime brings video calling to the new iPhone 4 from Apple [AAPL] and allows users to use either the front facing video camera or rear facing video camera to make video calls to other iPhone 4 users over a WiFi connection.

Note that we mentioned “over a WiFi connection”. At WWDC, Steve Jobs announced that FaceTime in 2010 was a WiFi only deal, but that Apple is working with carriers to bring FaceTime over 3G networks.

FaceTime works right out of the box according to the Apple site. When making a call to someone you can click on the video camera and if available, the user on the other side will be prompted to switch to FaceTime. If they accept the video streams will be activated. [Read more…]

iPhone 4 UK Release Date – June 24

Today at WWDC, Apple [AAPL] announced the iPhone 4. Along with that announcement came the details of launch dates. We were quite surprised to see the speed that Apple are rolling out the new iPhone 4 with five countries listed for June 24.

The iPhone 4 UK release date is June 24 where you’ll be able to possibly upgrade at a good price, or pick up a new handset on various networks. O2 has already uploaded an iPhone 4 page where you can register your interest although there are no prices as of yet mentioned. We suspect prices will appears on June 15 when pre-orders start. Carphone warehouse is another company who have put details of the iPhone up although no pricing is available there either. [Read more…]

Verizon iPhone Not Announced at WWDC

One of the rumours that was going around for the last few months was that of the Verizon iPhone being announced. Unfortunately it seems like the AT&T [T] ball and chain is still in place making the iPhone 4 and previous iPhones exclusive to AT&T for the time being.

Earlier rumours indicated that millions of Verizon iPhone devices were being made with the exclusivity between Apple [AAPL] and AT&T possibly ending early. For now this is clearly not the case and we might be left waiting till 2012 (when the contract ends) before we see other networks get the iPhone. [Read more…]

Apple iPhone 4 Announced

Apple [AAPL] has announced the Apple iPhone 4. The new generation device brings a huge number of enhancements some of which we think are quite impressive.

New features included in the iPhone 4 include video calling (Wi-fi only at the moment), a very high resolution screen, a 3-axis gyroscope, larger battery (10 hours of wifi browsing and more) and a number of other features we’ll cover in just a moment.

The iPhone 4 measures just 9.3mm thick (24% thinner than the iPhone 3GS). This is the thinnest smartphone ever made according to Apple. We have seen the design previously due to the leak over at Gizmodo, and not much that we can see has changed, if anything at all. [Read more…]

Apple iPhone 4 Release Date – June 24 in 5 Countries

Apple [AAPL] just announced that the Apple iPhone 4 will be made available on June 24 in five countries which are the US, France, Germany, United Kingdom and Japan.

The US pricing has been announced at $199 for the 16GB model and $299 for the 32GB model. Each capacity model will come in either black or white as previous leaks have revealed.

International pricing is not known just yet although we suspect that will be either announced on the Apple site today, or closer to the pre-order date which start on June 15. [Read more…]

Apple iOS 4 – New name for iPhone OS 4.0
