iPhone 5 Could Get Larger Display – Or Smaller Device

Leaked engineering images, if real, show what could be the iPhone 5 with a larger display. Thanks to advances in technology on the iPad 2, it appears that some of the same technology can be used in the iPhone 5 display that makes the bezel needed thinner. The iPhone 4 already has a small bezel on the sides, but there’s still a few more mm of screen that could be squeezed in there.

What we see on the image above is that the screen seems to have kept the same aspect ratio and is basically just a few mm longer on the diagonal pushing it down, in proportion, to the home button. [Read more…]

Apple Patent Hints at Slimmer iPhone Future

Apple has filed an interesting patent that suggests they could be looking at using the regular 3.5mm and 2.5mm headphone/headset jacks, but also hints that the connection port could one day be thicker than the device its self.

The iPhone 4 measures 9.3mm in thickness and the new iPad 2 measures 8.8mm. Both of these form factors can easily fit a 3.5mm headphone jack. The problem will come in the future though as Apple find ways to slim down the next generation devices. At some point, they will get close to or slimmer than 3.5mm and when that happens, you’d think that they would just use a proprietary connection rather than standard. [Read more…]

iTunes 10.2.1 Update Released

iTunes 10.2.1 has become available for the Mac in the last few hours. This update comes very shortly after the 10.2 update. Following the link to the knowledge base article provides no details as to why this update has been released, so we assume that Apple found a couple of bugs in preparation for the iOS 4.3 update that is due on March 11 (perhaps earlier).

The only information provided shows that the 10.2.1 update prepares iTunes to sync with the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad when using iOS 4.3 although 10.2 also was released for this purpose. [Read more…]

iOS 4.3 Launching Today

OS 4.3 was expected to launch in a few days time on March 11 along side the launch of the US iPad 2. We now hear hints that it could be launching within the next few hours. Along with the launch, we also know that the Personal Hotspot feature will be launching, although a chargeable service in most cases.

Another interesting bit of information comes, thanks to BGR, in saying that the rumored 3 Wireless Users limit is actually not a hard limit and that the iPhone 4 supports up to 5 users being connected. However, it is up to the carrier to decide what the limit is. By default it is set at 3, but can be lifted if the carriers so wish. [Read more…]

HTC Flyer Hits 1 Million Orders

The HTC Flyer was announced at MWC a few weeks ago. We now hear that 1 million orders have been made for the new Android 2.4 tablet computer which according to Digitimes, should see the company through to August this year.

1 million is a good milestone to reach although we need to wait to see what users actually want. It isn’t clear if they will prefer the larger 9 to 10 inch Android 3.0 tablets, or if the smaller Android 2.4 7 inch tablets will suffice. [Read more…]

PC World in the UK will be selling the WiFi only model of the Motorola Xoom. It will be priced fairly reasonably at £449.99 which makes it cheaper than the WiFi only iPad that currently sells for £50 more. Of course, we have the iPad 2 announcement and along with that we could see prices drop slightly.

The Daily Coming to Android in the Spring

At the moment, the only place you can read The Daily is on the Apple iPad. This is about to change though as it seems there is an Android tablet version being prepared for launch.

It is expected that The Daily will launch on Android devices at the beginning of the second quarter of this year and when it does, it will break the current exclusivity.

The Daily launch on the Android platform is likely to be related to the release of the Android 3.0 Honeycomb release that first arrived today on the Motorola Xoom. Now that Android will become a serious competitor in the tablet market, The Daily can look towards them for getting its content to more readers. [Read more…]

iOS 4.3 Release Date Hinted at March 2

iOS 4.3 has hit Golden Master stage which means it’s almost ready for launch. When iOS hits this stage, it is common for the public release to follow about a week after. This changed when iOS 4.2 was released due to some WiFi bugs found late in the game, however, it is normal that GM is finalized code.

With the code being finalized, it will now be ready to launch and rumors are hinting that it could be announced alongside the iPad 2 on March 2nd (Wednesday) next week. For those who like to track these things, the build number should be 8F190. [Read more…]
