Android 2.0 or 2.0.1 Coming to T-Mobile G1

Those of you with a T-Mobile G1 could be getting an OTA (over the air) update very soon taking Android on your phone to version 2.0 or perhaps even 2.0.1.

The Android Eclair update brings a number of feature to Android phones. What we do hope for is T-Mobile launching Android 2.1 which we have recently seen on the Nexus One.

Motorola DROID gets Wi-Fi Tether Unofficially

For those who want to use wireless tethering on their Motorola DROID, it is now possible thanks to users over at droid forums. For a while it has already been possible to use USB tethering to access the internet, but now it is possible to use your DROID as a wireless router and allow several people connect and share the data connection.

The hack is courtesy of a user called webacoustics who managed to build a custom firmware from version 2.0.1. To get it working does require root as can be expected as well as a custom kernel and recovery image, but the instructions are laid out easily enough to follow although as always I recommend that you proceed with any rooting type stuff at your own risk. HTC Creates Widgets for Hero/Eris Android Phones

htc-widgetHTC have launched four new widgets for the Hero/Eris Android phones. The first is a battery widget that shows a small battery icon on the home screen. When tapped a widget pops open that shows the current status of the battery including how much charge is left, what the battery temperature is, how it is being charged/discharged as well as the general health of the battery.

Notion Ink Android based SmartPad Spotted

notion_ink_smartpadSlashGear received some renders and life shots of a new SmartPad being created by Notion Ink. As of now the SmartPad has no official name although we do know it runs the Android OS and from what SlashGear have mentioned it also runs a new NVIDIA Tegra T20 chipset that can support full HD video playback at a 1080p resolution.

The Notion Ink SmartPad has a 10.1 inch display capable of displaying 1024 x 600 pixels. The display comes from Pixel Qi and has a matte finish. Entry can be performed either via touchscreen or by a built in trackpad. [Read more…]

ASUS EeeBot – Educational Android Robot

android-robotASUS have announced that they are working on EeeBot that is an educational robot designed to work with children that uses the Android OS to run. The robot will be designed to be affordable allowing more people to purchase it and will feature a number of functions such as the ability to interact with humans (or HRI – human robot interaction).

Other features will see it being able to visually and vocally interact through voice and visual technologies. The EeeBot will also be capable of positioning it’s self and will have navigation abilities. [Read more…]

Oppo Multitouch Android Smartphone

Oppo_Android_Smart_Phone_1Oppo are preparing to launch a new smartphone early next year that will run the Android OS and have a 3.5 inch WQGA screen with an 800 x 400 pixel resolution.

The renderings of the phone show a number of LED’s running down the side of the device which according to Akhibara news will be used to reports on the current temperature and humidity as well as providing the date. [Read more…]

Google Android App Market Hits 20000 Apps

Android-AppsGoogle’s [GOOG] App Market is ticking along quite nicely for them it seems. Google haven’t published details of how many apps are included, but another company have and have said that there are now 20,000 applications available for download.

The distribution graph created by AndroidLib says that of the 20,056 applications 62.2% of them are free vs the 37.8% paid apps. [Read more…]

Dell Android Tablet to be Revealed at CES 2010

dell-logoPocket-Lint has found out information saying that an Android based tablet device will be revealed at CES 2010 by Dell. The tablet will go head to head with a number of new tablets such as the JooJoo and Archos Internet Tablet.

The new device will sit between the size of a smartphone and a netbook with the screen size measuring 5 inches. The device from Dell will run the Android OS operating system and be launched sometime next year in the UK. It is expected that the Dell Tablet will be first revealed at CES 2010 in January. HTC DROID Eris get an OTA Update

HTC DesireVerizon just let BGR know that an OTA (over the air) update is being made available for the HTC DROID Eris. The updates were being pushed put at midnight last night meaning that when you read this you might have a notification of a new update ready to be installed this morning. However, only a small group will first get the update today with other users getting the update as Verizon roll it out over the next few days.

The new ROM brings the Eris up to version 1.16.605.1 with an update to the radio taking that up to 2.32.40.11.09 which probably doesn’t mean that much to most people. Details of what’s included can be found below. [Read more…]

Another Motorola Android Handset Spotted

moto-android-round-black1This morning we wrote about the Motorola Sholes Tablet that was spotted recently. Since writing about that, another Motorola smartphone has been spotted that runs the Android OS.

The name of the phone is not known at the moment, but from what a tipster at BGR has said, the phone will run an 800MHz processor, have a 3.8 inch display along with an 8 megapixel camera with a dual LED flash. [Read more…]

HTC Hero 2.1 Firmware Mentions Many Android Phones

Hero-Android-2-1If you remember the last few days you will have seen information revealed about a Hero ROM that leaked which turned out to be Android 2.1. Of course the firmware was quickly investigated and run on a phone to see what it was all about with a version hitting XDA Developers that can be downloaded now to your phone and tested.

HTC Hero Android 2.1 Available at XDA Developers

Hero-Android-2-1Yesterday we showed you some screen shots of Android 2.1 running on the Hero. The guys over at XDA Developers have managed to obtain a leaked copy of the OS and made it available for download on the Hero.

The installation of the ROM is fairly straight forwards although you will first need to root your phone. After that you simply run a backup, wipe the phone and install the new ROM.

As the procedure does involve messing with the ROM and installing the ROM we always recommend proceeding with caution as you might end up with an expensive brick. [Read more…]
