Nokia [NOK] will be launching the Nokia N8 in August. The Nokia Conversations YouTube channel has a few videos uploaded with one of them detailing the Nokia N8 photo editing along with the video editing functions of the device.

The video shows a few examples of how to browse through photos and although not the most exciting of things to watch, it does move on to the video editing functions of the phone where transitions can be made between clips that have been combined together. The application actually looks very good and seems that with the mix of a high resolution camera and some nice transition features it could be a good selling point for the Nokia N8. [Read more…]

One of the big features announced today on the Apple iPhone 4 was FaceTime. FaceTime brings video calling to the new iPhone 4 from Apple [AAPL] and allows users to use either the front facing video camera or rear facing video camera to make video calls to other iPhone 4 users over a WiFi connection.

Note that we mentioned “over a WiFi connection”. At WWDC, Steve Jobs announced that FaceTime in 2010 was a WiFi only deal, but that Apple is working with carriers to bring FaceTime over 3G networks.

FaceTime works right out of the box according to the Apple site. When making a call to someone you can click on the video camera and if available, the user on the other side will be prompted to switch to FaceTime. If they accept the video streams will be activated. [Read more…]

Apple [AAPL] has announced the Apple iPhone 4. The new generation device brings a huge number of enhancements some of which we think are quite impressive.

New features included in the iPhone 4 include video calling (Wi-fi only at the moment), a very high resolution screen, a 3-axis gyroscope, larger battery (10 hours of wifi browsing and more) and a number of other features we’ll cover in just a moment.

The iPhone 4 measures just 9.3mm thick (24% thinner than the iPhone 3GS). This is the thinnest smartphone ever made according to Apple. We have seen the design previously due to the leak over at Gizmodo, and not much that we can see has changed, if anything at all. [Read more…]

Today, June 7, will hopefully bring an end to all the Apple iPhone 4G leaks and rumours we have been hearing and seeing for the last few months. The main leak of the iPhone 4G from Apple [AAPL] was when Gizmodo managed to get hold of a prototype a couple of months back. Since then we have seen leaks spring out from a few countries around the world including Vietnam.

Now that we have seen the insides and outside of the iPhone 4G (or iPhone HD, or whatever it will be called), we are now expecting to hear official word from Steve Jobs himself today at WWDC.

Things that we expect to hear about the device are as follows…

The iPhone 4G is expected to have a 960 x 640 resolution effectively giving it four times the amount of pixels that the current iPhone 3GS has. The display is said to be similar to the iPad in that it will use IPS (in plane switching) along with another new technology called FFS (fringe-field switching). This could also get interesting in terms of apps for the Apple Pad… could the new iPhone apps optimised for a higher res look far better than they do now when scaled up? We hope so. Metro PCS is rumoured to be getting a new Motorola [MOT] smartphone that runs the Google [GOOG] Android 2.1 operating system.

The Android handset has a slide out QWERTY keyboard that has four rows of keys with the addition of a .com button to the left of the space bar. On the front of the device looks to be some sort of unique home button which could be encircled by some sort of funky control pad.

Other features include a 600MHz processor, a 3 megapixel camera and from what we understand, it will run the MOTOBLUR overlay. [Read more…]

Motorola [MOT] has announced the Motorola MILESTONE XT720 for those of us in the UK.

The new Motorola MILESTONE has dropped the keyboard and also now includes hi-def recording and output. With the keyboard being dropped, the new MILESTONE is now slimmer than the previous version. It measures 10.9mm now compared to the 13.7mm when the keyboard was attached.

The operating system installed is Android 2.1 although Android 2.2 will be quickly made available after launch although it is unclear what quick means with Motorola. [Read more…]

Not much is known yet about the Motorola DROID Xtreme other than a few leaked shots. The latest shots captured show the back of the DROID Xtreme.

On the back an 8 megapixel camera can be found, also HD video is included as seen in very small writing next to the lens and what looks to be a dual-flash.

We hear that it runs the Google [GOOG] OS, Android 2.1 although earlier details did not indicated it was version 2.1. We also see that it has similar styling to the Motorola DROID. [Read more…]

Today is June 4 and that means the HTC EVO 4G is going on sale. For those who want to avoid possible queues at stores and don’t mind waiting a day or 2 (or more with it being the weekend almost), Sprint [S] has now got the EVO 4G available to order online.

The phone can be ordered from here where it is priced at $199.99 after a rebate and “instant savings”. A two year contract will need to be signed with various options available depending on how much you need to use the smartphone.

A quick recap of features show that this device is a 4G smartphone capable of downloading data 10 times quicker than a 3G phone. Of course this all depends if you are in the right areas where a 4G signal is available. If it isn’t, it switches you down to the next best option. [Read more…]
