Latest Apple iPhone 3G S Firmware Jailbreaked

Apple-iPhone-3G-S-JailBreakIn the last few days we have seen a number of places mention that Apple have shipped a new iPhone 3G S that has the boot ROM finally fixed to block the 24kpwn exploit. Many people knew it wouldn’t be long before this was also hacked, and funnily enough, it has.

The new boot ROM doesn’t actually prevent the 24kpwn exploit from working, but instead just added an obstacle in the path that the hackers have now managed to get around. There is a downside though in that to boot your device the phone needs to be tethered to your computer. However, this will probably be sorted in a few weeks just like the iPod Touch with the similar issue was. [Read more…]

TomTom iPhone Car Kit back in UK Apple Store

tomtom-car-kit-for-iphone-3gsJust a few weeks back we reported that the TomTom iPhone car kit was ready for pre-order at what seemed to be a good price of £100 including the TomTom software. Shortly after various websites mentioned it Apple pulled the product off line stating that the £100 was just for the car kit and the software had to be purchased separately.

Today we hear that Apple have re added the iPhone car kit to the UK site, but this time they have priced it up correctly at £100 for the car kit alone. A disclaimer has also been added to the store which says… “The TomTom app for iPhone is not included with this TomTom Car Kit. The Car Kit dock is compatible with all iPhone models, but the TomTom app only works with iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G.” [Read more…]

Apple Patent a Two Hand Multi-Touch System

patent-091001-1Apple has just this week filed a new patent that shows a multi-touch system that can detect input from two hands. Not only does it detect fingers touching the screen, it actually can detect your palms and other parts of your hand that will make contact with the surface. The system will allow the user to interact with the device on a new level for typing, gestures, pointing, resting, 3D manipulation with all that information being captured and processed in an “ergonomic computer input device”.

This patent further assists the rumours that have been around recently about an Apple Tablet and could answer the rumours a little more by indicating that Apple will go for a larger screen rather then a small screen.

“Many attempts have been made to embed pointing devices in a keyboard so the hands do not have to leave typing position to access the pointing device… The limited movement range and resolution of these devices, leads to poorer pointing speed and accuracy than a mouse, and they add mechanical complexity to keyboard construction,” the application reads. “Thus there exists a need in the art for pointing methods with higher resolution, larger movement range, and more degrees of freedom yet which are easily accessible from typing hand positions.”

Apple Buys their Own Maps Company

iphone-mapsApple has bought a mapping service company named Placebase. This might not seem too interesting, but the thing is that Google currently provides mapping services for Apple and now that Apple own Placebase, it could mean bye bye to Google Maps on the iPhone.

There could be a few reasons for Apple making this move and more than likely it is to be less dependant on Google then they have been in the past. PlaceBase allows a lot of customisation and a lot of ways to layer multiple kinds of data sets on to maps. This all can be done through an API which could mean developers have some powerful mapping tools in their hands. [Read more…]

Official Apple iPhone 3G Unlock

official_iphone_3g_unlockMost iPhone users will be aware that there are a number of unofficial ways to unlock an iPhone 3G. However, I was surprised to hear that an official way is now available.

The unlock mentioned above was used by a user over in Finland who was on the Sonera network. When the 3G S was launched uses could buy out their old contact, thus finishing the 24 month term early. This entitles those users to get a free unlock courtesy of Apple. [Read more…]

Another Apple Tablet Picture

Apple-TabletAnother Apple Tablet story is moving around the web again. This time it’s thanks to a French website named nowhereelse who have published some “legit?” pictures of the rumoured Apple Tablet.

Although the picture does somewhat resemble an Apple iPod Touch made fatter, I’m not convinced it’s the real thing as it just looks a bit too cheap and tacky to be an official product. [Read more…]

Apple iPhone Explosion – Yes, Another One

iphone_homeAnother report of an iPhone Explosion is moving around the web today. This time the report comes from France where a French teenager claims to have been hit in the eye from a flying bit of glass caused by a screen exploding.
