Several days ago, Engadget managed to capture on video a new, kind of mysterious, Windows Phone 7 Series phone that was claimed to be the first handset to be made available. We are now hearing that the handset will be called the LG Panther.

No other details on the phone are known other than what we obviously see in the picture of it in that it has a full QWERTY keyboard that slides out the left side of the device along with a large touchscreen, three physical buttons below the screen that are mandatory on all Windows Phone 7 Series handsets and we assume a 1GHz Snapdragon processor that is also mandatory. Just a few days ago we mentioned the iPhone RedEye universal remote control that used a device plugged in to the 3.5mm headphone jack of your iPhone to transmit signals to your TV, DVR and whatever else is remote controlled in your house.

Another company have come up with the FLPR universal remote control for the iPhone that uses the doc connector on the bottom of the phone to transmit IR signals to receiving devices. By adding the attachment to the bottom side of the phone it requires you flip the phone 180 degrees and use the upside down software.

FPLR lets multiple devices be controlled from the iPhone. Set up is easy in that you just connect the IR transmitter to the bottom of the iPhone, download the FLPR application from the App Store and then go through the menu’s searching for the devices you have in the database of 14,000 pre-programmed already in there. Motorola have announced that three phones using Motoblur are heading to Canada. The three phones will be heading to three networks which includes Bell, Rogers and Telus and they are expected to launch with in the next 4 months.

The three Motorola handsets include the Backflip, Dext and Quench.

Motoblur is a custom user interface created by Motorola to bring social networking updates to an easy to access page on the home screen. The user interface can be configured to accept updates from Twitter, Facebook and Myspace streams which are then displayed on the home screen of the device. [Read more…]

Another concept drawing of the Apple iPhone 4G (forth generation) has been created by a forum user called Seraphan that shows what he wants the iPhone 4G to look like.

Features in the concept include forward and rear facing cameras with the forward facing camera being used for video calls. A microSD card slot is also to be found on the concept allowing for the phone to be expanded. Also the colour schemes of the iPhone have also been changed from just black or white. [Read more…]

Capcom have released official images and a video of their new Apple iPhone release of Streetfighter IV. The game will arrive in the app store later this month and will be the first mobile version of the game to be launched.

When available the application is set to be priced at $9.99 and will include eight playable characters who are Ryu, Ken, Guile, Blanka, Chun-Li, Dhalsim, M. Bison and Abel). This is 9 less than the arcade version although it does have it’s upsides in that the arcade version might be a tad harder to carry around in your pocket.

Microsoft has launched a new Android App called Microsoft Tag. The application isn’t brand new in that it’s just new to Android based phones as it’s been available for other mobile devices for a while now.

The Microsoft [MSFT] Tag application lets you scan barcodes on the go. It works similar to how a QRCode works in that specific information is stored in the MS Tag barcode that can be deciphered by the Android Tag application. [Read more…]

Google have launched Google Gesture Search for Android based mobile phones. The new search system for Google [GOOG] allows you to search everything on your phone by basically squiggling on the screen with your finger. Searchable items include contacts, bookmarks, applications and music. You simply write the letter of what you want on the screen and all the details load up for you.

To get the application you need to be running Eclair as the minimum, ie Android 2.0 and above which narrows the list of phones it works on down to just the Nexus One and Motorola DROID at the moment although more will follow soon. [Read more…]

Facebook for webOS has been updated. To install this official facebook update you’ll need to simply visit the updates app where it will be available to download. Pre-Central have given the application a full review.

The new version allows you to fully search and view profiles, browse photo galleries, send messages vie the Facebook mail feature, view events/birthdays etc… as well as look at your own profile bringing the app closer inline with the desktop version.

When launching the application it automatically loads up right to the news feed. At the top of the application is a box where you can send an update whatever page you are on. The application also utilises the accelerometer and when you shake the phone it automatically updates the news feed. [Read more…]

Skype have launched Skype for Symbian based phones. By developing this software for the Symbian OS it brings Skype to a potential 200 million more people around the globe.

The application is ready for download now over at the Ovi Store and as you will probably expect, it is free to download and use.

The Symbian Skype application works on a number of Nokia phones (all listed below) and works over both Wireless and 3G networks although make sure you’ve got a good dataplan before you use it over 3G to avoid unwelcome expense. [Read more…]
