FaceTime Could Land on Second Gen iPad Before Christmas

The second gen iPad is expected to land around April time in 2011. This would follow the pattern that Apple [AAPL] uses for the iPhone in that a new model is released each year.

However, we are still hearing more rumours that Apple want to push FaceTime in a big way which could mean that in November when iOS 4.2 for iPad launches, we could also see a second generation iPad.

New features on the second iPad would of course include front and back facing cameras allowing FaceTime to be used. We also expect a bump up in RAM from 256MB to 512MB and perhaps a higher resolution display. [Read more…]

Sony PSP Phone Not Happening this Year According to Sony

Back in August there was a big suggestion that a Sony PSP phone running Android 3.0 could be launched. The rumours also claimed that we could see the PSP Phone within three months of August.

We now hear from Sony that this is not happening. Questioned by Seattle Times, SCEA SVP Peter Dille said about the PSP Phone…

“No new mobile launches this year,” he said in response. “Our strategy is to maintain the PlayStation brand on Sony devices and provide experiences that are exclusive and proprietary.”

FaceTime for Mac and Windows Rumoured

FaceTime currently works between iOS 4 devices that have a front facing camera only. Rumours are circulating at the moment that indicate a client for the Mac and Windows could be launching that would allow a FaceTime call from an iPhone 4, for example, to a PC.

It is expected that the Mac version would be built in to the iChat software. Although it is a rumour just now, we suspect that it could be true as Apple [AAPL] is wanting to push FaceTime a lot. By integrating with the desktop it would allow video calls to be used by more people. [Read more…]

Cydia App Bring HDR to iPhone 3G and 3GS

The iOS 4.1 download brings HDR photography to iPhone 4 users only.

HDR works on the iPhone 4 by capturing three photos with slightly different exposure settings. The pictures are then merged together to bring out the dark spots and light spots on a picture so that all details are made visible.

Unfortunately for iPhone 3G and 3GS users, you don’t get access to this as Apple [AAPL] has restricted HDR to the iPhone 4 only. There is good news though… [Read more…]

iPod nano Watch Arrives

When Apple [AAPL] announced the iPod nano last week, the music player was seen with a watch filling the small square screen. This of course made a number of people look at comparing this thing to a watch and wearing it around a wrist.

Well, you can now do just that for $17. The strap is 22mm wide and is a Matatac Nylon band that has a section cut out for the clip to attach to. It comes in a number of colours. [Read more…]

Google Maps Navigation Updated

Google [GOOG] has announced a new update to Google Maps for Android. The latest version to download is now 4.5 and introduces Walking Navigation (beta) to the app. Street View smart navigation has also been added to the app.

When using the new Walking Navigation features, the app gives walking directions that follow paths (when paths are in Google maps) rather than keeping you to roads like previously.

“your phone will vibrate when you need to make a turn. You can even turn off voice guidance and just use these notifications while soaking in the sights and sounds around you. To help you orient yourself with your surroundings, the map will rotate with you as you turn the phone, and walking mode uses satellite view by default. Use it like a virtual compass with satellite imagery to look ahead or help pick out landmarks along the way.”

Android 2.2 Not Optimised for Tablets

Google [GOOG] has hinted that current version of Android is not optimised for use on tablet form factors. This would include the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Tab which Google suggested was just a large phone.

It appears that Google could be making a specific tablet version of Android to improve the user experience on a larger screen device. Google also confirmed that Froyo isn’t a platform for iPad rivals. [Read more…]
